It was a suprise and a nasty one at that. How many people knew about the Meteor? I think that would have suprised the Germans.

The Meteor would not have been nearly as nasty a surprise as the P-51 was.

My understanding was that the Jumos used on the ME262 were only good for 20 hours or less (I read this at the Lone Star Air Museum in Galveston, TX). With that few flight hours I would think it would take 4 to 8 engines to keep the plane in the air for any length of time.
I just don't think the Me262 was aas good as all the legends that have built up around it.
It wasn't legendary but it was a very good aircraft and a very nasty surprise. It just wasn't a game changer.
I agree. It is hard to see where a cople of hundred Me262s that were better than the best piston fighters, but not by an order of magnitude, could deal with allied air when the allies could put several thousand aircraft in the air on any given day.

Another point. Allied pilot quality was still rising while German pilot quality was dropping.
