me to I figure I I am going to have to fight it out with KB and knowing PZB he will try for an 8 hex engagement same as last time.

so he will send in a day of LBA then a day of LBA + KB (probably)

Not a lot I can do about it

Can potentially try to draw him out a bit.
Nudge into LBA range, eat the strike, back out, repeat a couple of times.
You can attrit down his LBA that way w/o having to face KB as well. Plus it'll put fatigue on his CAP pilots since he won't know when you're coming in "for real".
Course it'll burn your resources up to, just a matter of who has more planes to lose I suppose.

I have a few advantages and a cunning plan or two of my own so I am not totally disheartened.

Also lets not forget

14 CV's and CVL's
11 CVE's
3 BB's
40 Cruisers
66 Destroyers

with another

7 BB's
6 Cruisers and 18 Destroyers on close escort of various amphib TF's

700 Carrier Fighters (almost all Hellcats)
600 Carrier bombers

So I am still strong and that doesnt count another CVE, 2 CL's and 6 DD's en route covering another massive convoy.....

In 7 weeks my FAA Sqns start to get get naval corsairs not many but a few....

Also my Mediums can hit as far forward as Endeh on the Flores i.e. 14 hexes and my heavies can hit 20 hexes also my P38's can go 15 - 16 hexes with drop tanks so I am not totally without LBA myself.

I can attack pretty much every base in Flores and Timor

So not totally under the cosh

AND if he leaves Warangai alone for even 1 day.....200+ P40's, Thuds and Corsairs ready to fly in.

The disadvantages in giving PZB time are that he has inevitably dipersed and reorganised and reinforced and probably mined but the pause has not been totally without benefit to me

Lastly (only posting as I have no turns from any of my 3 games at mo)

I know I made a huge mistake and there is no way round admitting that BUT PZB still has to fight a battle in range of my LBA against a stronger fleet.

I have operations going in other theatres as well e.g. Midway maybe other locations - KB is now tied 100% to this theatre which may provide opportunites elsewhere....

What you say is true.... On the other hand this is another example where just rushing that last 5% is going to cost you big-time.

It is why you lost the CVs before and it turned a hammer blow into a fairly well-matched fight.

Next time you hit PzB you need to hit him with a hammer so hard that with the first blow he is incapacitated.... no more of this tapping him lightly on the shoulder to turn around before the hammer blow falls.

Agreed. Easy to say but you must plan these big shows to the nth degree. They are crucial against a skilled player who has a large and flexible defensive force in play.

Not trying to teach you to suck eggs but next invasions are to be planned and ordered to the nth degree ok Admiral [;)]

Having said that it is going to be a fun time I guess. I am rooting for you Andy!

Same here - the situation is no where near hopeless & I think you can pull this one off. Just remember to dot every I & cross every T from now on.

You attacked the base in DEI too far from yours Bases. PzB has almost all advantages on his side (10 bases around, many of ground forces here, maybe KB and another bombardment TF in the area) . You have only yours CV TF, which can change this status. But its too risky.

Seems like you have all eggs in a one basket :o)

danger will robinson

A massive japanese stack has started marching on Warangai and Roti looks like it has a huge garrison....

My Roti force is about 2 Divs but not 100% prepped for that objective...

Hmmmmm

Need to think this through

Next turn I am not committed as I am movbing into strike range I do need to think this through part of me says I should throw the Roti force into Warangai take the dot base and be patient i.e. massively reinforce Warangai.

If I do that though I am reacting not acting which is a bad thing as he has got inside my head....

If I dont do that could he have enough force to take the base....

Not sure but maybe,...

Koepang and Roti are both closed.

Runway at Warangai is 69......that means its open so I have sent in 200 P40's and Corsairs saving my front line aircraft for the second wave.

My gut says take the dot base and use the base forces etc to absoulutely secure Warangai.

i.e. slow and steady need to take my time over this decision

No, what you need is to stay focused. You are already committed here, and one base at Warangai is not enough. You cannot put all your eggs into that basket, you cannot keep that field open against 10 enemy airbases and bombardment runs. You must have more bases to force him to divide his attacks.

You must be able to do more than one thing. Sure, Warangai needs reinforcements, but you also need to have more bases. You must do both.

No not sure I do had a long look round.

At Darwin I have 2 Divs 100% prepped for Roti and 3 for Koepang

Plus another couple for Koepang at Port Hedland and also a sizable force for Endeh.

On that basis my priorirty is actually to get troops and reinforcements into Warangai (as nemo would say I am allowing PZB into my OODA loop but so be it)

base forces, suppply AA units and 2 fresh divs are going to land at Warangai tomorrow covered by heavy surface TF's and 200 fighters on CAP.

SO I am basically giving up on invading Koepang on this run and will aim to hit it on the next run

OK last turn things got interesting again.

I made the call to go back to Warangai I figured PZB would have KB 8 hexes from Roti and my troops just dont have the prep to take it so I made the call to secure Warangai 1st.

2 Divs plus numerous HQ's etc all went into Warangai and a happy hunting time was had by all when 600 Japanese aircraft were destroyed for about 60 of mine !!!! Finally a good result thats gotta hurt

Shot down lots of Betties and helens as well and my losses were light.

I stayed there one more day I lost about 60 to the sweep v 80 of his went down overall a good day.

I need one more day to unload I have 2 x PT Boats flotillas, 4 x CL or CA led DD TF's so I should be able to hold on

Not sure what to say last few days have been disaterous

2 days ago despite having over 50 warships in 5 dedicated SCTF's small groups of Japanese DD's gutted my fleet followed by a heavy Bombardment by BB's of Warangai.

I lost 3 Battleships, 3 Cruisersm, 10 Destroyers and about 30 transports

and probably sunk Mutsu and a couple of destroyers - my SCTF's despite being well led and in small 8 - 10 ship TF's got the crap kicked out of them

Next day as I started to pull back my ships were pounded by yet more small destroyer flotillas.

Need to rethink my tactics

My carriers keep getting their movement reset by japanese TF's which is splitting them up.

I had to take steps today and amalgamated them into 2 big TF's for the return to Port Hedland they are south of Timor and covering the rear of my force at present.

Not a lot more I can say about the last few days.

In the air I have more than won every day gutting Japanese LBA but at sea my destroyers and cruisers have had their arse handed tothe4m on a plate not to mention the loss of so many balttleships which after PH losses I was already short of.

Not very happy at present.

The only consolation is I made the right call 6 [X(][X(] Japanes Divs marcherd into Warangai - at least my 5+ Divs will be able to hold had I not reinforced....

Andy -

Have you been checking the captains of your individual combat ships? A lot of Allied combat ships have terrible default captains. If you don't change the captains for better ones you ships will perform badly in battle. And that is true even if you have a good Admiral in the TF.
