I'm toying with the idea of grabbing one of the Jimas up north. I'm building up a bunch of support forces in Seattle which would be useful for there. B-24s up there could wind up being a pain.

A move into the Jimas absolutely requires naval superiority. And by a wide margin since you have to compensate for LBA. Don't replicate Dpccup's mistakes:

That game is probably a good reference for you since I think Koniu plays a bit like CF and that Doccup also lost a fair amount of his navy early on.

Thanks for the link. If I'm ambitious, I'll read through the whole thread. I've had trouble getting "attached" to the other AARs. I always followed Canoerebel's fights. I read Mandrake's but they move in such a scatterbrained fashion that I have trouble seeing the big picture.

I'm mostly thinking out loud. I can't form decisive plans four or five months out, but a general roadmap of things to accomplish is helpful. It seems presumptuous to talk about Rangoon and Singapore at this point, but I need something to look forward to if things go as well as Ceylon did. I do have lots of troops, but I want to make efficient use of them. I think my lower grade of West African troops will be useful guarding Ceylon. Colombo does have a 40 garrison requirement.

My final goal at this point is Singapore. I can hose things for him good if this falls. The question is if I can work down Malaya, and if I also need to land on Sumatra at the same time. I'll keep it in the back of my head, but I can't dwell on it yet.

First things first. I haven't even secured Ceylon yet. He can't simply disband his LCUs like he probably did with his air. I think CF probably dropped the ball with his air setup there, having exclusively fighters based there. He seemed to pull his bombers off the island after I wrecked both those battleships. Earlier, he was running Betties from Colombo. I don't think he's making any real use of Diego Garcia or Addu either. Good news is that all his subs appear to be gone. Minesweepers haven't been pulling any more mines out of the water either. Waters from Calcutta to Malaya will be thick with my subs soon.

That game is probably a good reference for you since I think Doccup plays a bit like CF and that Koniu also lost a fair amount of his navy early on.

You are mixing the names up. Docup is playing Allies and Koniu Japanese. [:)]

Mop up starting on Ceylon. The guys at Jaffna attack taking the base. Only two base units were guarding it. I killed one through attrition. The other's still there, so I'll shock next turn to finish them.

I think the bombers probably came from Ranchi. Raipur's getting a visit from about a million bombers next turn. I've moved some better fighters in for CAP also.

Another 11 subs were cut loose from Colombo to the Calcutta/Malaya route. Before I'm done, he won't be able to run a rowboat through there.

The first mob of base forces arrived at Colombo. I've moved fighters and dive bombers in. The base is level 8 with 500+ support. Despite taking it at fort level 5, it's been flipped over to level zero, so I have to start over building fortifications.

Are you seriously worried about a counter invasion of Colombo?

BTW if you keep a LOT of subs in the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea areas, I wonder if that would be enough to keep the KB and/or Jap surface fleets from interfering with any ops you might undertake.

Not really, but I still don't want to leave them at level 0. I was just surprised the existing ones got plowed over.

I doubt the subs would really stop any TF full of heavy hitters. They never thwarted any bombardments before. Plus I was able to simply plow my way through all his subs to Colombo. Granted, IJN ASW isn't as good, but my subs still like attacking escorting destroyers.

TBH even if those P-38s had gone in first it still would have been a bloody day for your bombers. I think you need a few more fighter squadrons or sweeps. Also, I would probably avoid using any 4E bombers (especially B-17s) in extended range airbase bombing missions. You certainly aren't getting any new B-17s soon so its a waste to risk them on missions where they only dropping 1/2th their normal bomb load. Why aren't they being operated from closer bases so they don't have to fly extended range? You've had ample opportunity to build up bases in India and I know many can go to level 9.

I can't comment on the air tactics much but it seems to me that the air war over Raipur was at best a draw that turn and more likely a Jap victory. You need more sweepers. And your losses in bombers were seemed pretty high to me.

The 2nd day over Raipur was dismal at best. Bombers are back to training. Sweeps also only broke even. Next time I may hit Ranchi, as fighter strength there is weaker at around 30 and more bombers live there.

I'll have to wait for everyone else to eventually arrive. Ceylon's becoming more of a slog through the mud now. If he counterattacks, he'll probably take a hit, so I feel safe right now. Right - he knew you were coming for Columbo and decided that Trincomalee was better terrain to fight in. I think he has be evacuating whatever he can by air too. Using Misses Mavis and Emily he doesn't need the airfield.

Don't let him rest long at Trincomalee - your attack dropped the forts at least one level and still inflicted more casualties than you took. If your engineers can handle another attack within two days they should keep kicking in those forts!

It must be terrain + fort thing here. In raw AV I have nearly 4-1 on him. If I trump him on losses, I'll keep it up regardless of odds.

I didn't think about air evacs. I haven't put much stock into that, apart from having some seed to grow a unit later. The way it took forever to ship my Indian "para" units over with the excess of transports have made me skeptical about that. I'll start LRCAPping next turn to see if I can mess with that, if it's happening.

The one Indian para brigade is the last one not totally shipped over. The US stuff doesn't seem to have the excess baggage the Indians bring.

He's still got the Colombo stack in the countryside south of Trincomalee. Some of my armored units caught up to them and are taking a cheap attack on them next turn. I don't expect a lot, but I can see how weak they are form this. I don't want them reaching Trincomalee.

I had a big UK armored brigade at Bombay that didn't make the initial trip across. They're re-routed to Bezwada now. There's over 90 Grant/Lee tanks in this one, so there's plenty of muscle. My next attack from there won't have to worry about ships interfering. Vizagapatnam is showing no airplanes present there. Not sure about Cocanada.

LRCAP will put a dent in the airlift.

Bombing his supply to oblivion will be key to attriting the stack in good terrain to soften it up enough to take it down.

Very encouraging at Trinco. You might have to rest every other day or so, but the trend is looking very good. Based on the lopsided casualties -- in spite of attack odds favoring the defender -- I wonder if the Japs are running low on supply. Maybe your bombing of the airbase there trashed the supply facilities as well.

I don't think I hit Trin as hard as I did Colombo. Looking through the logs, it looks like I put 10 supply hits on it over 6 days.

The Colombo escapees dodged the attack from the armored units which caught them. I think it'll turn into a big mega-battle at Trincomalee before it's over.

The 77th Indian paras are still shipping over. 4 support squads are still in India. Regardless, I've moved most of my transports to Bombay and Karachi, except the one big China Air unit and another C-47 squadron. I'm getting more bombers aligned eastwards.
