[:D] This will incite discontent: I LIKE dark roast coffee! [:D] The darker the roast , the better I like it. So far the darkest I can find is Starbucks French roast, but if anyone knows something darker and stronger , please let me know so that I can try it! [:D]

My wife is the same way. She's tried many different types and always comes back to Starbucks French Roast. Apparently that is the ultimate cyanide-laced motor oil available. [:'(]

Sounds like Harry Turtledove's repeated descriptions of USA cigarettes while at war with the CSA.  [:D]

Could be subliminal recall as I've certainly read all of that series. [:D]

I'm just finishing up the first of the "Settling Accounts" series. I've really enjoyed them all so far.

Excellent read. I've read most of his work , the most recent "Hitler's War". Can't wait for the next installment due out this summer! [:)]

What you call "cyanide-laced motor oil", most TRUE coffee lovers would call "Extremely intense coffee flavor". Which leads me to realize that you are not only a Martian , but a Martian WIMP when it comes to coffee! [:D]

GF likes the dark Sumatra roast. Pike's Place roast makes her gag.

Are you talking about Starbucks? As I recall , I didn't care for the Pike's roast either. Now Pike's BEER! That I like! [:D]
But of course as a Native Sea-attile-lite you can't like Starbucks any how. It's it the city ordinance. Everybody MUST bad mouth Starbucks![:D] Tuttles , Seattle's best , Peets (of Berkly!) or Joe's vinyl siding and coffee company , those are alright! [:D]

I like a good French roast on occasion, of course it's as close to burnt coffee as you can get. I don't know of anything that's a darker roast then that, but expresso does have a stronger coffee taste, though more oily.

I actually find expresso to be weaker, in the sense that it uses Arabica vice columbian beans (usually) so it does have a more burnt flavor. But It's all good. I even like Turkish coffee (just don't drink the bottom half!)[:D]

I found that the worst coffee in the world is USN coffee! I gave up drinking coffee on active duty , unless I could get it from off base. Especially when I was overseas.

Ugh! They did that to us at the beginning of 2009. I have become quite used to bringing my big thermos of home brewed coffee to work. Image

Thing that burns my toast is that we get told how great things are and then on the heels of it we get another basic commodity taken away. Its like being told to bend over and smile while doing it.

BOHICA, bay-bee!

Yes, Sumatra is a Starbucks drip. She says it's quite good. Best coffee in Seattle is Cafe Vivace'

Bah...that's like calling someone a wimp because he prefers a nice Burgundy over moonshine. I prefer the subtle flavors and aromas that remain in unscorched coffee beans. And burnt is exactly the flavor that dark mess has.

If you are getting burnt flavor from expresso you aren't making it right.

I'd say that if you're NOT getting a burnt flavor then you're making tea ... [;)]

OK. You asked for it...wimp. [:'(]

I might prefer moonshine's subtle corn / potato / raisin flavors to the homogenous simplicity of your smashed grapes. Plus, when was the last time you every used a 'nice' Burgundy to de-grease your engine? Can't do it, can you mister big shot wine con-a-soor!

While it's true that no burgundy will ever make a good "purple passion", I too like burgundy. (And moon in it's place). Those are "apples and oranges". I called him a wimp to get Mynok going. He's shown too much good sense in ignoring me.

I haven't heard a coffee mentioned thats a "bad" coffee (except for USN.....shudder). But each has it place, it's time and it's followers.

It's like asking which is better , blondes , brunettes or redheads. As James Bond said "as long as the collars and cuffs match"! [:D]

I'm also a fan of the dark, dark roasts, but I like a very wide variety of types. As long as it's not "unleaded." [:D]

Unleaded is definitely the ultimate sin. But there is no excuse for even a dark roast to have a burnt flavor.
