I think that he's just saying the game doesn't have to be "realistic" since it already isn't.
The 3000km he is refering to is the fact that the French can damn near go from Italy to Denmark without having to force march before any other country's corps are moved. That's pretty unrealistic, IMO.
Personally, I don't care about realism either. It's a game and if something is an improvement or adds balance then that's great, even if it's not "realistic".
The whole game map is about 4000km, which is why I asked.

You miss the point; this game does not model reality. There is no attrition. Corps can move unrealistically quickly. Fog of war is lacking, etc etc.
It is not THAT big a big stretch to say my 2000 guys in one factor in one corps represent a picket force that will retreat in the face of superior numbers, blowing up bridges, engaging in hit and run guerrilla attacks, deception and subterfuge to sow confusion in the enemy advance such that even a much larger enemy force would be forced to slow dramatically.
The game improves, and it's not any less realistic than any number of other things the game does not model properly in the interests of fun and playability.

I'm saying that Napoleon can march 12 full corps 8 spaces without anyone else reacting, and can pay for all its supply (or forage in "6" areas) without losing any factors. Realistically, this is insanity.
My point is that the game is already abstract in many ways. I like to have a modicum of "realism" in my games also, but I like play balance more than I like realism.
