I just found a dvd collection of about 50 classic war movies which are mainly WW2 based. Just watched Iron Cross and a John Wayne Submarine movie (cant think of the name) over all excellent movies for it time.

It's the scene where the German Panzer commander enters the room with all the young troops and makes a comment about how young they are.  Then they sing Panzer Lied.  Just wonderful.

The end of a very horrid movie called "A Boy and his Dog".  When the dog {via telepathy} tells Don Johnson that the girl was a good judge of character, even if she didn't have overly good taste.  Priceless.

Wow, haven't thought about this movie in a long time. You win the prize for most obscure movie title[:)]

My favorite Western : The Searchers with John Wayne ( It was named the Greatest Western of all time by the American Film Institute in 2008 ). The very last scene, after everyone else goes inside the family homestead Wayne hesitates at the doorway, then slowly turns. An interior shot of him shows the door slowly closing as he walks away into the wilderness. Great scene, often emulated by other directors.

Right, Stuman, FANTASTIC shot! A great movie and an emotional hammer of an ending with that seemingly simple visual device.

I forget the General name, but in a bridge too far, the General looks up and says "to have such power at my command just once". Gerat one line way to show the disadvantage the German army fought under.

My favorite scene in a movie would never be filmed today. The new sheriff scene from Blazing Saddles. I will not repeat it here fearing an appropriate ban, but the film is a masterpiece.

Actually it was Bittrich or Model. I remember him on the veranda of his HQ with the Brits landing just two miles away.

The Polish General (Sosabowski) said the other line. Hackman was great in that role!

I taught my kid to say that (he's 2). His teacher wasn't thrilled.

"Excuse me while I whip this out!" Movie is a classic. Madeline Kahn was the funniest woman ever IMHO.

The Thomas Crown Affair (2nd version) when Crown and 'what's her face' are drinking wine while the painting that might or might not be the stolen Monet goes up in smoke on the barbeque.

And again in that movie when Crown goes to return the painting, dressed as the faceless corporate suit, he looks up at the cameras that he knows are trained on him, tips his hat and says: "lets play ball". The music and the continuing theme are awesome.

No.., it was Kurt Student (Commanding the 1st Parachute Army defending the Albert Canal line in front of XXX Corps). Why would a panzer commander be lusting for the Allies ability to drop 20,000 paratroopers at once? Read the book.

I'll agree with John 3rd. In the 'movie' they show Bittrich's HQ as the 1st para are jumping into Arnhem when he quotes this. Whether it is correct to the book or a fabrication, I am pretty sure it is Bittrich. He commands the panzer division sent to Arnhem to rest and repair (10th 11th or 12th Panzer - I can't remember that).

Mike--You might be right about the book but the movie has it said by Bittrich.  I just watched the scene.  Will look at the book though.

Has one ever wondered how the Germans would have done if Hitler hadn't been s appalled by Crete and, instead, allowed the Malta Operation to go forward with airborne in that?  It would have been fun to watch!
