That's exactly what I have in mind when I think of staff. I would use that graphic.

Maybe add a couple of guys standing behind him looking over his shoulder.

@Gary

I like these graphics so much that I would like to volunteer to help you get this packaged for easy use. Either through ATG's built in zip method, or a custom install script. I want to use these so I might as well make them usable by others. Say yes and I will contact you via PM to coordinate.

Sure. Thanks. Feel free to PM me.

Here's a modified graphic with two people in it. I hesitate to put 3 or more because the models are complex and it increases render time and the possibility of the program crashing on my computer.

So here's the new vote:

Which graphic looks the best for staff or which graphic would you like most to see in the game.

Well once again they all look great, but *staff* in ATG is imho A, a bunch of guys looking at a map miles behind the front. (or in ATG terms 3-4 hexes [:D] ) So would B. C maybe... D would be a frontline officer those aren't really in ATG (again imho)

'A' fits best in terms of ATG staff.

I like A the best.

Looks like A will be the winner. Of course this opens up a whole new can of worms. What should I use for the backgrounds? It looks like Version A should be in a bunker or room or something rather than an open field.

Any ideas for backgrounds?

Here are 4 possible backgrounds I have come up with. I'm open to any other suggestions.

Each background would be a permanent background, meaning it would show over top of the terrain type background that normally shows in subformations (so there would be no terrain specific backgrounds, snow for winter, etc). Another possibility is to use a combination of different backgrounds. for example, use landscape background for combat formations and then use a flag background or something for the staff subformation alone.

Anyone have any ideas for backgrounds or have a particular favorite among the ones below?

EDIT: Of course the terrain background would vary between different unit types, for example sea for sea units, sky for air units. But the other backgrounds would be the same for all unit types if I were to adopt them.

You are a talented Man.

Thank you for the compliment. Although I think it's mostly just having the right software and some patience more so than having special talent. [:o]

Below is another possible background option. I could use landscape backgrounds for all units except staff alone would have the background pictured below which would sort of look like they were inside a building (presumably HQ) doing their planning.

What do you guys think of using the background scheme below?

I like the landscape myself but on second thought the one in the room probably works best.

Yup Landscape.
Except that the horizon should be a bit higher (I'm a bit nitpicking here) because you're looking down on the two figures, so the horizon can't be that "low". With the British paratrooper the horizon is about right because you're standing on the same level as that figure.

Agree on the horizon. That's why I think the pic in post # 154 above may be better for the Staff icon. What do you think of having a special background for staff (as shown below)?

I am leaning towards having the flag behind the staff guys. However the bunker/building also works.

Building/room backround (but not this one). Maybe put big map on the wall.

map1
map2

I don't like the look of this table with map
But officers and map are fine.

Is it the color/texture of the table you don't like or the table itself? If it's the color and/or texture, then how about this one?
