well, i will post agian as my question from earlier was ignored

"so it is very clear that Steel Panthers is the game people want remade - has there been any word from Matrix Games on their position on this?

or is it the Shrapnel Games versions of Steel Panthers are the only remakes we will ever see?

what about Steel Panthers 3 - i kind of liked that one the most because of its scale and that it covered all the 20th century "

I believe Joel from 2x3 games said remaking SP was on their long range plan, but there were several projects before it, so who knows.

Steel Panthers for sure. Want same game, just with updated high res graphics engine. I have the free SPWAW installed and it is a blurry mess on my 27" LCD. I would buy the pay for version which has support for 1024x768 but not at that price. Why so much $$$ for such an old game?

The Generals Edition of steel panthers world at war uses the same 800x600 resolution as the free version.

There was also this post made some time ago. So it would seem they are at least considering the possibility of making a new game someday maybe... [:)]

The Generals Edition of steel panthers world at war uses the same 800x600 resolution as the free version.

The versions Shrapnel sells for $39.99 have options for up to 160x1280 or same as desktop res. I just installed both free versions today due to reading this thread.

I think we should "talk/debate" about why we want SPWAW remake? You know give some of your ideas about why a remake would be good right now. [:)] Give details about what would make SPWAW II better than the first?

Four pages of responses. Way too much for me to read.

So, since I didn't read ANYONE's response, I'm just gonna throw my opinion out there. I'm sure NO ONE has mentioned Steel Panthers.[;)]

I don't mind at all. It's just that I'm super busy at work, and I'm about to take a world vacation, and then when I return I'll have to coach the kid's soccer team.

Support for modern resolutions and OSes would probably be the main thing, on top of a revamp of the UI and perhaps better extensibility towards 3rd-party content.

That is of course assuming it's a straight remake and not any drastic iteration or deviation from the original design.

Based on GG's last three or four designs a new Steel Panther's gonna have:

-counters representing every individual soldier,
-one yard hexes,
-logistics representing every single cartridge.

Hmmm, a few off the top of my head:

*New coding for newer OSs
*Higher screen resolutions for better icon and tile clarity
*Expanded OoB and ToE slots
*Terrain enhancement (higher elevations, better blending of terrain types)
*Include new unit features like dismounting cavalry, reverse for AFV's
*Expand date range: 1920-2020...and leave it open to modding for other historical time periods.
*mod/designer tool kit...to really promote first rate add-on's for greater community involvement.

Game engine play could be tweaked in a few areas but in reality I never had much problem with it over all.

Good point on scale...missed that one.

I've played SPWAW. Bought an expansion once also. My overall reaction? Meh.

What am I missing? Why is SPWAW so beloved? Why such fanatical devotion to the game?
