Does your shortcut point to the game .exe file or to the menu program Autorun.exe? The latter does nothing with switches.

My man got it dialed in! just need a few more touches like the Japanese "meatball" icon to replace the rising sun icons that red is just too much for my eyes to focus on and the map mod thankyou you are the man!

Hello everyone,

Looks like it has been a very long thread starting from years ago!! I just downloaded the 79$ War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition from Slithering's website yesterday but still found the issue of slow performance on my computer (Windows 10 Desktop). Could anyone please let me know the most updated solution, if any?

Thank you in advance!!

Hello,
i've tried several switches variations but my game continues to run slowly specially turning the map around.

Using the arrow keys, the map moves at a 3 second delay.

The units pop-up box is also a bit slow.

My pc is a ryzen 7 w/ gpu Amd 6650 and 16Ram, W11. Monitor 1440p 27inches.

Does anyone have an idea how i can improve this?

Thanks

You may have too many overlays turned on for the map to redraw every time it moves. Overlays are things like range circles, patrol zones(6 for ships, Z for patrol aircraft), terrain hexsides (F6), hexside ownership (w), weather features. The graphics processor can handle moving the tiles which have many hexes on them and the location of bases and all their current features but when you add all the other stuff it gets complicated. Turn it all off during the turn execution. Turn them on as needed when setting up your turn.

Also check your Message Delay settings in the Preferences menu (second button at the top of the screen or letter P). If you want the turn to execute faster set those lower or even 0.0 seconds for things you do not need to see (I get no info from watching bombing or bombardment animations). You can also reduce the load on your computer by turning off background music and other programs running in the background.

I disengaged all those items you mentioned, reduced messages and map delays, deleted the -archive string from the shortcut....installed latest update. No improvements.

In ocean hexes the map moves swiflty, but in areas like Japan, Philipines and mainland Asia the map takes around 4 seconds to move....From the mini-map it takes even longer....

The pop-up units boxes continue to be slow as well....

I have nothing on background in the pc other than anti-virus and all the W11 system working. Sometimes just the Kull spreadsheet.

It boggles the mind....

Use SeaBee. It's a utility that can be used to install the switches. You may need to play around with it a little bit but it works. I can't remember where it is is on here but you can search for it....GP

I was using it. A first turn resolve would take around 18 mins without reports and messages at 0.50....

I did the good old uninstall, search and clean for files and reinstall it all again. It worked!

Thank you for the help.

Sounds like you were using the shortcut that points to autorun.exe - a barely usable menu program that the switches do not work with. Seabee found the correct shortcut on the second install.

I was doing something wrong, that's for sure.

Now up and running smoothly again, and ready to lose to the Japs.

Again, thx!

Try using the switches mentioned in this post specifically -dd_sw. That seems to work for many.

Time for me to have a funeral. An old friend (WitP-AE) is dead as King Tut.

I'm stuck with Windows 11 and WitP-AE is wrecked.

I always accepted that WitP is slow. After all, resolving turns always involved a very large number of steps. On its best day, starting a campaign game meant starting the Dec. 7 turn and going to bed. Let the computer run. By time I got home form work, I could give orders to the allies. It got quicker as the turns progressed and less steps were needed. I accepted this as the price for an outstanding "game."

But now that is gone. WitP-AE is simply not compatible with Windows 11. Simply giving orders to a single TF takes two hours. Resolution of the Dec. 7 Japanese turn takes six days.

I've tried uninstall/reinstall four times - no joy.

No amount of switch adjustment makes any improvement.

I tried turning off all the overlays. No help. Every thing happens super-slow on a nearly blank screen

SeaBee saved WitP when Windows 9 came along, but Windows 11 couldn't care less.

I've tried all the ideas put forth in the forum with absolutely no success. All my other software runs OK with Windows 11 That took some suppression of all Windows 11 advertising but it eventually worked.

FWIW, I also bought "Eagle Day/Bombing the Reich." It runs as slowly as WitP

War in the East won't even load.

Worse yet, I out here alone. The Discord server wants no part of me.

Over the year, I ditched my Commodore 64 and Apple II Same with rotary dial phones , land lines, and the dreaded fax. But in each case the replacement was available and understandable.

I suppose Gary Grigsby games get to join the rotary dial phones.

I just loaded AE on a brand new win11 laptop and it works as I set it up. The -deepColor switch usually works with slow game preformance. But don't tell me that it won't work. Which dash symbol were you using?

And my condolences....GP

Let Seabee install the switches. It will use the dash "-" and not the malus/minus "-" which appear the be the same but they are not the same to the computer and the operating system.

Taxcutter, here are my switches for an i3 Win11 laptop with a 15.4in monitor. Game works flawlessly.

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -skipVideo -archive -deepColor -dd_sw -px1366 -py768
