In Italy the defenses are being built up.

Axis forces still stronger than allied combined.

Defenses in France.

Looking at the land losses it is 1250 axis for 4300 allied. Cant be bad [:)].

Leningrad is never going to go out of supply. You have to storm it. 3 mobile corps and as much air as you can spare to attack it on 3 sides. You should be able to do this in your situation. This is probably something that needs to be changed but so long as they have that port they cannot go out of supply.

Ok thanks I was guessing it to be so. I just feel I have seen Leningrad out of supply in earlier games but I might be wrong, it happens [:)].

Not that much going on for the moment but suddenly the British decided to abandon the whole middle east so Germans and Italians start to divide the spoils.

On the forces can be seen even my 6 subs are gnawing away on the escorts. I dont think the allies are building any for the moment.
German army strength not far from 2000. USSR army strength also increasing but I am guess it is mostly inf armies and there is no air support and it is a long way from Kazan to Berlin so I am not that worried yet.

A frozen Port does not provide supply. With Leningrad the road of life kicks in. However, if you have it surrounded and the road cut off, then units cannot get supply. Because its on rail, its supply level is 9, and Russia being winterized, it doesn't receive the weather penalty. So it will have a minor increase in effectiveness.

But with road of life in German hands and the railroad not going anywhere isnt this something to be fixed? Have to be sure before pestering Alvaro again enough for today with the escorts debate [:)]

I'm Sorry, you've lost me. What needs to be fixed?

I should add to the pic above that the two units above are getting basic supply with no reinforcements. Also their effectiveness is not increasing. The inf unit had a 1% increase but I think that's because it's on rail and you have some decimal calculation being done.

Sorry I was maybe unclear, I mean I feel with the Baltic frozen and Road of life in German hands the troops should starve but it seems they do not. But ok if they are on Basic supply and dont recieve any reinforcements then that might be good enough [:)]

March 1943

In a cold turn I manage to get rid of a thorn in my side. After 10 grounstrikes and 12 landattacks Leningrad is mine.

That is very good as it frees up 5 air and 7 corps and a HQ for the summer.

No worries. Thanks for the clarification.
I see, so a special case like Gibraltar and Malta. I'm not sure, as it stands now it does take quite an effort to take but it can be hammered from multiple sides and doesn't fit the island or isolated hex criteria. I'm just worried that one could then argue that any unit that is in basic supply should have it's unit supply level reduced by 1 per turn, maybe to a minimum value of 1. Where 1 is truly basic needs and all it's penalties that come with that supply level. I think almost every invasion would stall.

You know the rules so much better than me I trust you [:)]. As you said it could fairly easily be hammered down. German losses not very high anyway as there was no AA in the city.

May 21 1943

Not much happening in this game. I am waiting for a "Last Hurrah!" from the Allies. Not sure if there will be any this summer but if not I really dont think that the Allies can take out both Germany and Italy in just 1,5 summers.

Might have been better to attack the soviets but I cant really be bothered. Also more interesting to see what the allies can do in a situation like this. Might be a good lesson for all of us. If the allies win from this position then we all should play on no matter what the circumstances but if they fail miserably well then people will know when they might just as well give up. Will be interesting to see. I think it will be very difficult. German economy at 530 I have 500 on reinforcement to upgrade stuff to 1944 tech. After that I will embark on a huge AA build program. My manpower for the moment goes up is at 89%. Most axis minors built out Italy got 230 force size limit left. Axis combined got more than 2000 oil stored.

I take Malta just because I wanted to do something [:)]

Game ended

August 1943 and we both agreed that an allied comeback is not very likely and I had no interest in pushing around my units really so we decided to end it.

Thanks for a great game. ComadrejaKorp is a very nice person to play against we chat all the time. Also very aggressive and creative. I thought I did really badly. Big losses in France, Barbarossa not working very well at all, losing Finland immediately, crazy [:)].

But then the Kiev pocket happened had the Soviets retreated one turn earlier I think the outcome would have been completely different. But after that it became some kind of snowballing effect. As soon as the Soviet army goes under like 1800 strength and start to run out of units a little bit they tend to be in trouble. Then it gets easy for the Axis to surround or shatter 1 unit or more per turn and then sooner or later the Soviets run out of units.

And once the Soviets cant mount much of an resistance I dont see any comeback for the alles. The Germans just grow to a monster in the end. With no losses in the east manpower at 90-100% whole army at 2200 all max upgraded. Not easy for the allies to do anything.

Again thanks for a nice game! [:)]

Thank you MM for this fantastic Aar that tells how you killed me (:

The game started badly for me, I had to sacrifice many troops to delay the fall of France but I managed to damage the Axis and its U-boats, so I thought that the Russians could contain them.

But MM is tactically very good, he easily overcame my Soviet defense, and he caught the best of my troops in a pocket, this was really the end of the story.

The best player has won, congratulations!

Thank you, I really feel that you played better up to that Kiev pocket turn. So I dont really feel like I am all that much a better player but thank you. Very nice game!
