Turn 72

The summer offensive of 1942 has come to an end so now I hope the mud can buy enough time to refit and build forts. I don't trust the Hungarians and Italians to hold the flank at all so I will probably send 1st panzer group on reserve. Rostov probably can be taken now, the combat value of the unit there is probably deceiving. I will only post whenever something interesting happens now.

All the mud on the ground in the south just disappeared and now it's snowing so now it's less time for my units to build forts. The soviets are probably going to start attacking along the front now, I have a feeling the Romanian armies in the south will die the moment they do so I shifted 4th panzer army down as a defensive force. I also want to take the panzers of 1st panzer army off the line so I can put them behind the hungarians and romanians.

I am continuing to take all the motorized and panzers off the frontline, the soviet cvs are pretty scary so I don't expect to hold for the whole winter. I sent some new divisions to take Rostov but there were more troops in there than expected so I need to build up combat prep or something. In the northern parts of the front that aren't on the screenshot, all the divisions have decayed from 80+ TOE to around 60 and I no longer have spare units there but I will figure something out.

The formula for taking a city like Rostov hasn't really changed. Nine infantry divisions with pioniers and plenty of prep points, the corps leader who has the predominant CV and will fight the battle needs to have good stats. The corps gets siege and heavy artillery and the air fleet commits all aircraft with a requested value of 200 aircraft with escorts for a ground attack prior to the assault which should go in with air support.

It's now late november so the soviets will start attacking non-stop for a couple months now. 16th Army is probably the worst of the armies in the north. I don't have like any units to help 16th army when they retreat which is my main concern.

The area between 4th and 2nd army is falling apart so I'm retreating back to Voronezh. The attack on Rostov is postponed due to needing to defend against the massive amounts of soviet troops heading there right now. The area west of stalingrad is not looking that great so I will retreat to the don river.

Going alright for the time being but some forts in places where the soviets have more angles of attack are being destroyed.

I finished the withdrawal of 4th army to outside voronezh but those units still have low defensive cv so I may retreat behind the river if I have to. There is still a large concentration of units east of rostov and I don't think the romanians will hold at all.

Also I lost over a hundred tanks in this battle so I have it abandon that hex since soviets have attack from four directions. I think those lost vehicles were hungarian but yeah.

The soviets managed to push one hex west of moscow which is really bad because there are no forts to the south of that hex and it allows them to attack that other hex which is down to level 2 forts.

I realized that 11th army got renamed to Army Group Don so now I don't have an army for my units down south which is annoying. I have a large shortage of armies now across the whole front. The soviets east of rostov got encircled and I am actually going to try to hold this if I can.

Whats happening at Rostov itself, is it still being supplied somehow, seems you have had it cutoff for some time but unable to take it.
If it falls you could free up a lot more troops.

Managed to take back that one hex pretty easily, the cv values were misleading again. I sent two more panzer divisions that spawned in to help them out just in case.

I'm continuing to retreat around Voronezh, hopefully I can form a straight line near the depots(refit!!). The soviets managed to break that encirclement in the south but I am still going to mess around with my panzers because they probably won't get supply if I continue doing this. My tanks are dying near Stalingrad, my panzer divisions just can't hold. I guess I will swap them some of the units on the don river.

I never attacked the city so they probably still have a lot of ammo and stuff. I don't think starving is a thing in this game. anyways i need to stop this attack first before i can send my good units to take it

Now I can cycle units to refit because of the extra panzers. I'm probably going to take back that one hex but I can't recover fort level because they attack every turn.

The soviets tried to continue their thing in the south despite my panzers being behind their line so hopefully now they are more spread apart and easier to kill. I also have a panzer division surrounded and there is a mech corp beside it so i gotta hope the ai doesn't notice.

Soviets broke through near voronezh so I am back to my old fort line that has decayed by quite a bit. South of that there were no units facing my units so I just threw them forward because I can. Maybe it will distract some units. Everything is holding well on the river line. That encirclement I made last turn east of rostov was kept but there are not a lot of units in there.

The encircled panzer div surrendered which sucks, however I don't think there is a soviet unit at maikop so maybe i can get those victory points.

Soviet attacks on voronezh have been mostly stopped, I also brought in an ss panzer division so that will help. I still don't trust that it will hold for the rest of the winter since those divisions are very weak and only surviving because of the forts. I brought back those 2nd army units I sent over the river, maybe that would determine my fate in like 50 turns who knows. The encirclement is still being cleared and the ai foolishly decided to abandon krasnodar and maikop for whatever reason. The rifle div at krasnodar could have stayed there encircled for the whole winter and it would still be alive.

The units south of Stalingrad are being attacked and pushed back so no more level two forts which will make it difficult to defend with half strength infantry. The pocket is almost cleared, and the other one in krasnodar is gone too. I have a unit too stuck in a pocket near maikop and I have no hope they will escape

6th and 1st panzer army isn't doing well at all right now and they are managing to cross the don river and my forts are decaying rapidly. My panzer divisions don't seem to do well defending in winter and are probably draining a ton of supply. That division at maikop is dead now but of the three battle reports there were none where it said they surrendered so no idea what happened to it.

Sixth armies' sector is collapsing right now due to low supply and that the part of the river I'm defending on isn't really in the best position. I think the river gets frozen over in the winter maybe that is why it's not working as well. Probably going to have to retreat closer to the depots. I also sorted out my reserve theater box and I got 4 motorized/panzer divisions out heading to the stalingrad area.
