No turns yesterday night came from Trollelite.
Hope things won't slow down again too much.
 
I feel the overall situation is now on a edge. This KB's adventure may become an interesting opportunity for me. If i manage to avoid any real loss (in terms of ships and planes) during this raid (which however should be ended soon due to the lack of fuel), then he will have burnt many fuel points and his overall sys of the CVs should now be a bit in "light red" (the KB has been operating for six months in a row!!).
This raid slowed me down a bit. I had to make some of my fleets flee away from the Masrhalls with their load of men and supplies, but i can say that nothing changed much in my scheldue. The Americal and the 32nd Div are still moving safely towards New Caledonia and Oz, along with base forces, See Bees and some aux units...a brand new front will be growing up quite soon down there, while our psycological and physic pressure on Ponape remains constant (this is shown by the fact that he's still operating the KB in the area).
3 Canadian brand new airgroups are moving from SF to PH. 1 Hurricanes and 2 Kittihawks air wings will be moved to the CEntPac, in order to give a hand to the american P-40s.
The "Three Queen" operation will be ordered as soon as the new turn come from Trollelite...let's see if i can catch him off guard somewhere!

Don't send the 1st USMC to Pearl yet. I've had the 2nd USMC at Pearl for months but it only has 330 squads. The 1st USMC I left at S.F. and it is now completely fleshed out except for some AA machineguns and about half its tanks.

Had I left the 2nd USMC at S.F. it would have fleshed out a long time ago, but here it is mid July and it still needs over 30 squads and a lot of other stuff.

Stay at S.F. for a month if your units need to flesh out, it’s worth it in the long run.

I'm really tempted about the Babylon operation (moving 1 entire British army from Aden to Oz, along with the whole RN)....

I'm really starting to fear for Oz...and i want to open asap another front ....but i know how high are the risk levels...it's a long long way to Perth from Aden...

I wouldn't do it. If Japan goes to OZ, he'll have to commit lots of stuff. My opponent has 10+ divisions there and is having a hard time. All I’ve added to the defense so far is the two AIF divisions, and that was enough to stall his attack.

If you did the same as I and only sent the AIF divisions, then you’ll have about 1,000 British AV left behind at Aden to land somewhere in India if Japan goes for OZ. Of course I’m assuming he is still tied up in China at this point, if not then he’ll have enough strength to hit OZ and hold India too.

So in the end it all boils down to what is going on in China. If he comes for OZ after China then sure try and send a British division, but I doubt that’ll help.

I fear you’re going to have to pull back into a redoubt no matter where he goes next, so sending a British division to OZ will likely just get it tied down into a last stand redoubt at Sydney or Melbourne.

It will be better served as a force in being to threaten India with I think. Use US forces to help OZ and keep the British for the reopening of India some day. Besides it is much safer to bring troops to OZ from the US than it is to sail that dammed map edge we call the Indian Ocean.

If you can get well established in New Guinea with the US, I think OZ will be saved. At least the east coast will be. By securing New Guinea you secure the east coast and that allows a redeployment of most OZ divisions to defend the roads from Perth and Darwin.

Are you able to move subs around in the Karachi area ? If yes, try mining the deep see hexes his Bombardement fleets have to travers. It's a rather low chance to get a hit but it may be worth it.

In China a useless para drop at Kweijan stopped every movement of my army which was almost arrived in the jap hex N-E of it...now i'll have to run westwards...but i bet his 37 units will enter at Kweiyang before i can move away and so will be able to succesfully attack me again...[>:][:o]..the land combat system is really a pain[:@]

In the Pacific the Kb made a sweep at Wotje...[X(]...46 zeros...we lost 12 planes, but shooting down 7 zeros!!...not a bad rate![8D]...i wonder what is there beyond these movements...[&:]

No ASW action today...seems that his subs are moving away...with the KB moving southwestwards again i imagine the raid has finished...or almost.

I wouldn't do it. If Japan goes to OZ, he'll have to commit lots of stuff. My opponent has 10+ divisions there and is having a hard time. All I’ve added to the defense so far is the two AIF divisions, and that was enough to stall his attack.

Jim...China's lost. point. The last results show that i won't be able to save my 2800 AVs-Army and get it to Chungking...so in few months he'll be able to move something like 15 divisions whereever he wants and some more 10 or so via-land to India...I don't know really what to do...

However, "three Queens" operation is on the way and the RN CVs are moving from Aden again...let's see if i can catch his BBs with some good luck (and bad weather...)

after what happened with my latest request to not to use paras on a non-dot/base hex in China...i decided to stop complaining and, above all, to stop asking him anymore.
It's clear that he "reads" these requests on mine as a whining childish request "you're kicking my butt, i don't like to lose, so i ask you to stop winning or i do quit"...something like that. Well, i hate to be pedant and i hate to appear a whiner, even if i do believe that i have, at least, some reasons to complain.
So my policy now is: simply stop asking and accept this state of things...and rely on his feelings of fairplay and justice. I'll stick my behaviour on what i do feel fair and won't retaliate acting in the same way.
Above all...i'm having lot of fun playing this match, so i fear that, asking too much, would break this "toy"

And above all, you can use his "tactic" against him in the future if you will want to.. Many of those nasty tricks can be used by both sides.. Pandoras box is open.. You are on the receiving end now, but it´s going to change soon. You will get more and more toys to play with.

Unfortunately I bet Trots quits as soon as he has maxed out his offensive.

The KB is moving westwards, back to the safe waters south of Truk...this raid was a real insuccess for him i'd say.He just killed 12 of my fighters in a sweep, losing 7 zeros...nothing else achieved...Today our Conrados spotted, attacked and sunk another I-class Jap sub. (I-28)...during these days in the Marshalls Japan has lost some 6/7 subs...not bad!At Karachi today he bombed the hell out of it...both by sea and by air...while at Manila the "false attacks" go on and the results are clear...from 25,000 of Adjusted AV of last week, noe our adj.AV is 17,500...[:@]One of our sub operating from Darwin ("S" class) finally managed to interdict one of his supply convoys that go from Java to Japan...[:D]In China...well...i let you see with your own eyes how many planes he's using against my poor guys at Kweiyang...--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I actually had to swallow the somewhat sarcastic comment which came up to my mind first of all. It had something to do with deliberate use of small unit suicide attacks and their effects. But as this is fine with GH, so shall it be with me.

But more on topic/strategywise: Is that a relevant question ? (This is a real question, I am aware of your achievements from your speed and fury AAR, so I hope I can learn something). I believe you are not after the exact number of available supply and rate of consumption (or are you ?), but rather try to point out a disadvantage of this approach in a polite way.

But on the other hand, what are the available options:

a) having the troops chopped up piecemeal - possibly supplied better if distributed, but the total supply needed is identical - or is it not ?

b) concentrating them as GH did and see what happens.

c) evacuation ??? I am not really familiar with the scenario they are playing, but I guess evacuation is not possible, as PPs are insufficient and probably spent better in different areas, plus if the sealanes to ship supplies in are too dangerous, this will also be true for the way out.

Thus, what is the alternative strategy you would suggest, avoiding supply problems plus making better use of the troops ?

Hartwig, glad to hear that you read my AAR time to time. Thanks for that.

I asked General the question because I know there is no way to supply so many troops in Manlia. Unless, you managed to tranport some supplies from other bases in DEI. Thiat can't be much, let's say more than 50,000 supplies. If you managed to send let's say more than 30,000 supplies to PHI, your Japanese opponent is probably not a good one. because he owns the superiority in both air and naval force, your little transportation mission could be end easily. So this is just can't happen.

Then let's talk about the more "normal" situation: you DIDN't send much supplies to PHI.

If you can keep all the bases with some resources, you can supply all your troops in PHI well, or may be even some more from nearby islands.

PHI will be lost for sure in the beginning of the war, the only thing matters is how much price your Japanese opponent payed to capture Manlia.

The right strategy for allies from my perspective, is to defend Clark Field with most of your troops, let's say about 1,000 assult value, and put the rest about 500 AVs in Manlia. Then, you are all set in PHI. Japan get no other choice but to move as many troops as they can to invade PHI, probably the whole southern army. If Clark falls, simply move all your troops back to Manlia, pray for your opponent to shock attack Manlia. If he did so, congratulations, you did a great job in PHI and at least delay the attack of japan for two monthes, even more, bacause his divs need rest after the bloody battle.

I do suggest to evacuate the 4th USMC Rgt, 2 tank bn, the fleet HQ and several combat engineer rgt before Manlia falls. If you can't fully pull them out, at least the seeds.

For the Japan side, I think the right strategy is to push the USAFEE troops back to Manlia, use tricks to avoid bloody battles if you can, don't leave the allies any resource produce bases, leave half of the AV troops against the Allies in Manlia at the begin, and seige the city for monthes. You can pull some troops out once you see the AVs in Manlia drops, which mean the allies has run out of supplies. Do as much bombing as you can, if you have extra bombers, that helps to burn the supplies. But I don't like some troops suicide attack, that's works but just don't like it.

What I did in my last game I seige Manlia for half a year and captured it with one Bde and some SNLFs eventually. The allies in Manlia will starving to death. You saved a lot of energy for other campaigns.

I actually had to swallow the somewhat sarcastic comment which came up to my mind first of all. It had something to do with deliberate use of small unit suicide attacks and their effects. But as this is fine with GH, so shall it be with me.

But more on topic/strategywise: Is that a relevant question ? (This is a real question, I am aware of your achievements from your speed and fury AAR, so I hope I can learn something). I believe you are not after the exact number of available supply and rate of consumption (or are you ?), but rather try to point out a disadvantage of this approach in a polite way.

But on the other hand, what are the available options:

a) having the troops chopped up piecemeal - possibly supplied better if distributed, but the total supply needed is identical - or is it not ?

b) concentrating them as GH did and see what happens.

c) evacuation ??? I am not really familiar with the scenario they are playing, but I guess evacuation is not possible, as PPs are insufficient and probably spent better in different areas, plus if the sealanes to ship supplies in are too dangerous, this will also be true for the way out.

Thus, what is the alternative strategy you would suggest, avoiding supply problems plus making better use of the troops ?

I asked General the question because I know there is no way to supply so many troops in Manlia. Unless, you managed to tranport some supplies from other bases in DEI. Thiat can't be much, let's say more than 50,000 supplies. If you managed to send let's say more than 30,000 supplies to PHI, your Japanese opponent is probably not a good one. because he owns the superiority in both air and naval force, your little transportation mission could be end easily. So this is just can't happen.

Then let's talk about the more "normal" situation: you DIDN't send much supplies to PHI.

If you can keep all the bases with some resources, you can supply all your troops in PHI well, or may be even some more from nearby islands.

PHI will be lost for sure in the beginning of the war, the only thing matters is how much price your Japanese opponent payed to capture Manlia.

The right strategy for allies from my perspective, is to defend Clark Field with most of your troops, let's say about 1,000 assult value, and put the rest about 500 AVs in Manlia. Then, you are all set in PHI. Japan get no other choice but to move as many troops as they can to invade PHI, probably the whole southern army. If Clark falls, simply move all your troops back to Manlia, pray for your opponent to shock attack Manlia. If he did so, congratulations, you did a great job in PHI and at least delay the attack of japan for two monthes, even more, bacause his divs need rest after the bloody battle.

I do suggest to evacuate the 4th USMC Rgt, 2 tank bn, the fleet HQ and several combat engineer rgt before Manlia falls. If you can't fully pull them out, at least the seeds.

For the Japan side, I think the right strategy is to push the USAFEE troops back to Manlia, use tricks to avoid bloody battles if you can, don't leave the allies any resource produce bases, leave half of the AV troops against the Allies in Manlia at the begin, and seige the city for monthes. You can pull some troops out once you see the AVs in Manlia drops, which mean the allies has run out of supplies. if you look at the story in this AAR you'll see that i've defended as long as i could all the resources centers in Luzon! I've had to abbandon everything but Manila when he understood what was my game and brought 3500 AVs both at Naga and at Legaspi, so he managed to push me back. i've fallen back to Manila just before he could defeat me at Clark Fields. I also managed to bring 30,000 supplies at Manila...unluckly the constant bombings of the last months and these single-unit-attacks managed to burn most of them. Now i barely have 5,300 supplies left...[:o]

That's actually the best possible Allied defense setting I could wish playing Japanese. Makes conquering Luzon so much easier.
