If you have tankers at Capetown send them to the East Coast and start regular runs from there to Capetown.

Capetown will never run dry of fuel again.

I use my "precious = fast" AOs to do so, this basically to keep them busy, but out of harms way, until I am ready to use them for carrier support

I have an infantry division at Pearl prepping for Roi-Namur. Another which showed up in Eastern US is prepping for Kwajalein. This one's almost on the main US part of the map now. By the time it finally reaches Hawaii, I can think about kicking this off.

Hold on a second. Those are deep targets in the Marshalls. Why not go for the Gilberts first?

I guess I'm deceived by how "plentiful" fuel is at CT at the start. I did quit shipping fuel out of there over a year ago, but I have been running convoys pretty heavily.

I have an overload of tankers at San Francisco right now, so I'll move them to the East Coast. Does anyone here ever use the UK for anything?

Sangeli, I don't really know how "deep" the Marshalls are. Both them and the Gilberts are on the fringe of Japanese holdings, with the Marshalls being slightly closer to Pearl Harbor. If I could topple Baker quickly, my recon PB4Ys could scout all the holdings better. I have over 2-1 at Baker, so I'll give it another hit next turn.

Why are you only looking at the bases the Japanese control? Many of those dot hexes you wee were turned into US bases in real life but in your game they are completely open. I fear you are very much under-utilizing your base building capacity as you have said you have 30+ engineering units in the west coast. If it were me, I would have dropped into 5+ dot hex islands in the Gilberts simultaneously long ago and initiated a buildup.

I've probably a dozen or so at Pearl now, with the rest in the Indian Theatre. I'll take a look at the islands to see what potential is there. Odds are he wouldn't even notice.

I'm not sure if they're going to mess with Colombo or not. I haven't sent the turn out yet, as I could use some advice. I've about 200 fighters at Colombo, including Jugs and such. Should I sortie out my carriers to a hex adjacent to Colombo to get more fighters up at that end? With all my fleet carriers, that should add another 200+ fighters. I'm in a quandary at this point.

One thing for sure. I'll be ramping up activities in the East Pacific, knowing KB's sitting out here.

Do you have a way to protect against naval bombardment? Don't think a bombardment will happen this turn but if Japan were to launch a carrier attack against Colombo it would have to be proceeded by a naval bombardment. That being said, I think its highly unlikely for CF to try it.

And yes, get things going in the CentPac. Do you have units in Xmas Island that can be used to occupy the Gilberts?

I have several battleships and other surface forces in port at Colombo if he tries anything. I'd most likely outnumber him in such a contest. I guess the trick is to know when to deploy them out of dock without attracting any attention from the air. I'd probably deploy the carriers in that event to get the fighter numbers up. Combined with what's at Colombo, I could probably get over 400 up -- 500 with the CVEs out.

I haven't looked at what's on Christmas in a while. I think I'm overstocked in support forces and maybe a defense battalion I could spare.

I had a fragment of the 111th Inf Rgt at Pearl that got missed with the last landing at Baker. Funny, as it said 100% when I loaded them. I'm sending them over with a couple rocket ships to try them out.

Cape Town has about 35,000 in fuel now. It must have been a really big tanker.

Yes you can!!!!

This is an emergency. You have to react to it appropriately.

If that means overstacking an airbase for a day or two before it can be relieved, so be it.

Stage some that are already there out, put some on training.

Any number of temporary measures can be taken to reduce the impact of the overstack.

Mundy: Funny, as it said 100% when I loaded them.

The AI seems to be a bit inaccurate in figuring out the load for equipment - guns and light vehicles take up more space than the average for their weight, and I suspect the AI rounds up the weight for each gun/light vehicle which uses a little more ship weight capacity than the raw load cost per item. Either that or the AI adds in a minimum amount of supply with the unit even if you click on "Load troops only".

I give my amphib TFs 115% minimum of the total cargo/equipment load calculation for the unit if it is a standard BF or such, and 120-125% for artillery or AA units. This is before any additional supply I want to send along. I then add the additional supply total I want and reserve the ships accordingly.

For an unopposed landing in a safe area I put all the ships together and load, but for an opposed landing where I want to withdraw the amphibs ASAP afterward, I click the "Load Troops Only" for the troop/equipment part of the TF and load the supply ships separately before combining them.

The other way is to leave the amphib TF destination at the loading base until you see if the entire unit got loaded (set "Do Not Unload" to avoid that headache) and if there is a left over fragment, load it in a separate amphib TF and combine them before setting out. The big danger here is forgetting to change the TF to "Unload" when you set out and even worse, having "Retirement allowed" set so the TF arrives at target, turns around and heads back home having thrown away any surprise about your planned landing! 16 January 1944

KB's departed the Colombo area to the northwest, chasing one of my Cape Town convoys. A cruiser force intercepted them twice, but they slipped away. Weather isn't good right now, and I thought I could get them out, but they got attacked in the last PM air phase. For all the hits inflicted, half the convoy's still okay. The previous day, some B-24s made a run at KB. Shinano's now with them. If he's going anti-commerce up there, he'll find things a bit dry.

A group of two RN subs transiting Aden to Colombo happen to be three hexes from KB. I've broken them up and got them on patrol, hopefully in front of them.

With the recon going on, CF probably sees the fighter count there and that may be giving him pause there. At this point of the war, Zekes aren't all that formidable anymore.

I have an ASu TF camped at Sarat, north of Bombay. It has one each USN and RN battleship, two cruisers and four or five destroyers. I've disbanded them for now, so unless he gets a dedicated recon there, should be invisible. I'll use them as a trump card in case he want's to mess with Bombay. I've ambushed KB twice... I can do it again. All ships have very good and very aggressive leaders in them. If they move, I'll make sure Willis Lee's in charge. They were enroute to Colombo, but his carrier activity put a delay on that.

Other than that, I'm busy assembling the pieces for my East Pacific troublemaking.

I don't think CF ever had attacking Colombo on his mind. Seems to me the KB sortie here was purely to catch shipping and any other fleets that might wander in its path.

Also I have to really disagree with the notion that you should ever charge the KB with surface ships unless you have a way to give them lots of air cover on the return trip. Yes, you have ambushed the KB before with surface ships in the past but its not like those battles turned out particularly well for you if I recall correctly. And even then it required some lucky weather to get your BBs in range without being attacked first. If you put Willis Lee in charge and his flagship gets sunk there's a 50% chance he'll die in which case you'll have wasted your top SCTF commander on what amounts to a suicide charge. There is a reason why so few carriers were ever so much as engaged by enemy surface ships IRL.

I would only do this if I can reach them and get back to port within a turn, which I would assume is less than likely.

It's funny how Sarat has a 10,000 ton drydock, while Karachi has nothing.

I'm fine with him hunting freighters that way. Anything incoming from Cape Town right now will come in far to the north of his current spot. If KB moves too far north, my PBY squadron at Socotra will spot them. Catalina losses have been fairly heavy lately. His CAP over KB has been bagging lots. I have a Sunderland squadron running out of South India now.

I feel like my ships are crawling right now. I want to get moving with stuff.

One battleship, West Virginia, I think, is almost out of the yard in Sydney. She survived my carrier debacle near New Zealand.

I don't think I'll have any late days at work this week, so we can keep up our two a day schedule.

I had a day's delay in my game.

Something got corrupted on my machine and Win10 decided to forget the default user account on it, which meant all the installed app weren't visible anymore. Everything was still there in the C:\users\ folder, but ignored by the system.

I went through a total install of the operating system. I have an external hard drive attached, so I could back up everything.

Fortunately, This was a second install of the game, with a different directory name, so I copied the thing whole cloth over. I re-installed the base game, and just copied this version back. I still need to get Java and Python installed for Tracker, Combat Reporter and Intel Monkey.

Pain in the butt.

I'm leaning towards getting a solid state drive for the OS and leaving my current 1.5TB drive for games and such. The upside is that my computer would boot in about three seconds.

I did that a couple years ago. A high end i7 with 16G. I guess "only" 3.4ghz, but good enough. The aftermarket fan keeps everything quiet.

My choke point up 'til last month was the graphics card, which I replaced with a GTX 980 TI. Probably cost almost as much as the entire CPU setup. If it runs ArmA2 okay, it'll handle anything.
