OH MY GOD, WE'RE GOING TO MARS.
Got a phone call from folks in Huntsville. Project money approved for two areas: motors and systems, and bio sciences. Ain't jack compared to the Chinese, but the Huntsville guys have been doing a lot of this on their own nickel.
WE ARE GOING TO MARS. WE ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO GO MARS. And there's no point to just going there, you gotta go there and set up a Base. WE ARE GOING TO MARS AND ARE GOING TO STAY THERE.
I'm selling ex-pat tickets for $1 plus the cost to boost your a$$. If I was young enough, I would be outa here in a heartbeat. MARS!!!!

BTW, I remember thoroughly enjoying my tour at the NASA Huntsville Alabama... I took many many pictures (it was the age of old camera films - long before digital camera revolution)...

NOT year 2012 - it is year 2020 (most probably)... in dark middle ages one pries wrongly summed up the years and, thus, we have this discrepancy... this is very well know fact and even Pope in his latest book admitted that once again very openly... [;)]
So - the Mayan 2012 happened years ago... [:'(]

I'm wondering how they predicted the end of the universe and so many people are believing it. Especially when the Mayans didn't predict the arrival of the Spanish...

Doomsday can just bugger right off. I for one will be having nothing to do with this end of the universe malarkey. The bloody apocalypse can come during work time, like all good catastrophic events should, not on the first day of my Christmas leave.

Good point. If the apocalypse could please wait until one minute after we're airborne on the 21st, that would ensure a good view from the air if nothing else.

Second this was scheduled a long, long time ago and the two of you should have checked before making any plans.

They didn't - but our years calculation is wrong... it is not (strictly speaking) 2012 right now... it should be 2020... [;)]

Whet he's trying to say is that the date 12/21/12 is not based on the "western" calendar, but extrapolated from the Mayan's own dating system. This coming Friday just happens to be the day that the end of the Mayan cycle falls on. [:D]
