Hi all,
ORIGINAL: Nikademus
it was a Seagate Barracuda 160GB drive.
Strange that the performance suddenly degraded so much that FirmWare upgrade was the only thing to do...
BTW, how is the FirmWare installed - was it windows installer?
If yous the best solution for such insufficient privileges are boot from removable media (USB, CD/DVD) with Mini WinXP (for example found on Hiren's Boot CD) - then just install needed FirmWare from there (and circumvent the low privilege account)...

The firmware is factory direct with the HP/Compaq computers purchased for my company. They began exhibiting symptoms from day one. The company's solution to the issue is continual re-imaging. After having my fill of the issue even after repeated re-imagings i began researching it on my own nickle and discovered it was a problem with the firmware of this particular type of hard drive....not the O/S or the plethera of background processes each domain machine must run. I downloaded the patch directly from SeaGate and applied it to my machine (to which i had created a local administrator account for it) and it solved all the problems. Since then i have fixed 5 other machines who's users had sufficient priviledges to run it. I reported this solution to management but it was never acted upon. More so...i got verbally repremanded!
I cannot utilize a bootdisk as it would probably have gotten me fired since i am not officially IT so such means to circumvent the permissions would be frowned on....excessively.

do any of you ex-military types have an "I Love Me" wall in your home? i have boxes of stuff i'd like to display somehow, but it's always seemed kinda self aggrandizing...thoughts? ideas?
Mine is all packed away in the attic. I've always been more of the type to be happy with my memories, rather than having "trophies" all over the place. I have not got rid of any of it, though. [:D]

Any THREAD brothers in the immediate vicinity of DC on March 22-25, inclusive? If so, I'd love to get together with any of you that are available. I buy the first round.

Not ex-military but my dad is. Used to have an "I Love Me" wall until it had to be repainted. He never got around to putting back up his awards and thought the wall looked better blank; although it's now been taken over by art.

Wish I was . . . it does lead to a good question . . . how far would you drive for a free beer? I'll say upto an hour depending on the person buying, the comfiness/ambience of the location, and the likelihood of a second free round.

Erm...your job has been eliminated. Why do you freaking care what they think? Fix your friend's computer. Then tell the bastards in IT that hers won't need reimaging now. Watch them squirm.

Sorry dude.
Two questions:
1. When does the beer party start?
2. How many games of AE are ya gonna start?
1. As soon as the weather gets warmer. [:D]
2. Are you looking for a fight? [:'(]

He was "downsized".....which are the EXACT circumstances for which unemployment was intended.

But, of course, corporate campaign funds provided inspiration for some 'loopholes'.

Speak no ill of the only proper method of cooking peanuts. They are otherwise useless and tasteless swill serving best as hog fodder.
This time I noticed your lack of SRT. [:D]
