Is this HMS Cumberland Martin?

It sure is. I did toy with the idea of putting the ship's crest in there as well. I still can if you want it. I always liked that particular pic.

Do you think it might be too busy with a crest in there as well? What is Cumberland's crest? A dodgily shaped sausage?

This is an all Brit page so far. Where is everybody else?

The Annals of Tacitus covers a period of history that the Thread is about to traverse - starting with the death of Augustus and on, written by a guy who lived through the time

Tacitus himself was born during the reign of Claudius and lived untill the ascension of Hadrian. Hence he couldn´t possibly have lived through most of the time period described in his "Annales". As for his sources for this earlier period, we can at best make educated guesses (senatorial protocols is one possibility, the works of the Elder Pliny another).

I used the crest on my HMS Devonshire banner to provide a bit of colour. With your banner I suppose there is the risk of making it too busy. Also, the crest colours are very similar to the main body colours. Ultimately it's your choice
