right now, no. I can't get it to duplicate. [:(]
Yeah, this one may be tough to duplicate. You need to get a turn where the SS Nautilus is supposedly sunk and then a subsequent turn where it's discovered to be falsely reported as sunk. But I think this had to have happened twice -- because it should fail on the second time. I'll protect against it, but it's a harmless error; just indicating something is there already.

Most likely, everything seemed to work right, I just noticed the error message at the end and thought I would send it to you. I'll look at the old turns this weekend and see if I can find the right ones.

The witptracker.bat file contains a line:
[font="Courier New"]java -Xms384m -Xmx512m -jar "WitPTracker.jar"[/font]
Change the numbers to bigger values. Increase by 128, for example, until it starts working. But... if these original memory settings aren't working, it could be that your PC doesn't have enough memory to allocate.

Thanks, I have gone up 2 steps with no luck. This is the start of the error msg in the DOS box when I try and read a turn:
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: F:\Warga

s available to process this command
my wtptracker.bat file is now
java -Xms640m -Xmx768m -jar "WitPTracker.jar"
I think I have enough memory - page one of the DxDiag test:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 3072MB RAM
Page File: 1484MB used, 3471MB available
Maybe I'm not on the right track. Any ideas?

Microsoft website has this "helpful" information for this error message:
Error Message:
Not enough storage is available to process this command.
User Action:
Do one of the following, then retry the command: (1) reduce the number of running programs; (2) remove unwanted files from the disk the paging file is on and restart the system; (3) check the paging file disk for an I/O error; or (4) install additional memory in your system.
Maybe one of these will help.

Hey guys, if you have 4GB of memory on your machine, you can set the Xmx value to as high as 3072 (3 gigabytes). This is probably too much, but it will definitely help with memory issues. If you are running on Win7 64 and have more memory then you definitely can go all the way up to 3072.
You may want to jump to 1024 initially just to see if the extra 512 megabyte helps. I usually run tracker with 2048, but I have an 8GB machine running Win 7 x64.
By the way, the numbers after the Xmx are in megabytes, so 1024 equals 1024 megabytes or 1 gigabyte. Hope this helps.

Not entirly sure what this means but I have over 100Gb free on the disk
(3) check the paging file disk for an I/O error;
Haven't done this yet - Hard drive is only about 4 months old
or (4) install additional memory in your system.
I have 4 Gig RAM on a 32 bit system so I don't think this will help
Any other ideas?

Was working like a charm and then just stopped reading turns - no error msgs - took a few turns for me to notice.

I'm in the beginning of '43 now and the start-up time for tracker has increased to ~10 minutes. Is there anything I can do to reduce that?

But from running 200+ turns the DB call is not what is slowing the program down ... or am I wrong ?

Maybe a bigger DB or another separate DB where you store more things rather than recompute every time Tracker is run would help performance.

There are two problems--big databases are unavoidably slower, and the memory fragmentation you get in the JVM as you load a lot of data means you start thrashing. There was this FAA system I had some involvement with that ran into just that problem. I've asked the DBMS expert who sits two desks over for some suggestions.
For a starter, is the database normalised?

I have an idea that could do essentially that - check-point the database so the initial reading only has a few objects to sift through, but the complete history is preserved.
