Double checking that recent sunk ships report and adding those 3, that would bring the total of sunk IJN DD to about 40. Hopefully enough to pinch operations.

I think someone told me the Japanese get/have 120 DDs in total. If that is correct you sunk 1/3 of his DDs. That got to hurt. [:)]

In Scen 1 anyway the IJN gets 237 DD. Of course that includes a lot that come late. The critical thing is making sure to keep the decent modern ones for the KB and better SCTFs.
Losing 40 is bad, but not too terrible by late 43. It may mean he can't be as aggressive with small SAGs at this point, but he shouldn't want to anyway since it's ... Fletcher time.

Looks like I was off with about 100 DDs then! Perhaps I misunderstood and they started the war with 120 DDs. Or got 120 in reinforcements.

I forget exactly - it's in this AAR - but I got a pretty good bunch of DD early on so I assume that has had an effect on operations, which is nice during the pivotal, more balanced phase of the campaign game.

The troops SE of Kunming are - still - getting annihilated. Tsuyung is beginning to clear over stacking to where supplies will be present and we can see about a CAP. Still several days away. The Imperial vermin in the area are responding to the point of our attack, hoping to hold the line before our troops recover from the shock attack for another, hopefully even better blow. Current disruption among the combat units ranges from 11% to 71%.

The KB was completely unseen before this turn. Considering our extensive search coverage it is most likely that they made a high-speed run to attack.
4th USMC Div has made it to Toungoo. The attack SW of Toungoo will take place 3 days from now with about 3,000 AV.
In just more than one day the Babeldaob invasion force will be at Manus to refuel and join up with escorts. Most of the surface forces will depart directly from Truk so as to give minimum warning to the Empire.
Here is a map of the battle area. Obviously there will be no major IJN carrier intervention in the invasion of Babeldaob.

Prince of Wales is in bad shape {50-54(33)-8(1)-0}, but should stay afloat barring enemy intervention. PoW should make it, It's a very tough ship.
On the other side, troops at Rangoon...ooh, boy. They are very eroded. 16thLRP, and two indian brigades are almost out of combat... They need R&R.

Yes, but go back to just after the river-crossing attack - the comparison is amazing! And after the first couple of turns I have not been allowing any units with '43 standard Indian squads to take replacements because I am juggling to upgrade the last few large formations makes it even more amazing. I think even if DAW HQ had not started reducing troops at Rangoon I would still have the 1/3 needed to avoid further shock attacks.ORIGINAL: traskott

The first relief division should cross the river this turn and the next in less than a week. Of course the push south of Toungoo will come first, so any assault on Rangoon will likely only be against forces that didn't make it out before that drive hits Pegu or which were left behind on purpose.

Two of the Chinese units that attacked across the river still need recovery time before attacking again, one of them with significant disruption. But most of the troops there are ready, and so all will attack with the aim of dislodging the defenders before they are reinforced. The point of attack has been receiving significant 2E and 4E bomber support.
POW made harbor at Ramree Island and went automatically into pier side repair. I will leave her there until all minor flooding is repaired. One of the 3 destroyers that detached to make an attack run at KB was torpedoed during the day, but took surprisingly light damage and can still make better than 30 knots. That group is heading for Ramree as well.
The 5th Indian Division has added its 449 AV to the troops already at Rangoon, wiping out the possibility of forced shock attacks when crossing from Bassein. Two of the units moving from Toungoo to the attack position made 23 miles and have another 23 miles to go, leaving the slight possibility that the attack could be delayed by a day if one of them does not make it in time.
Babeldaob invasion force will refuel at Manus tomorrow. All four Essex class carriers have finished upgrades and are back in the two fleet CV TFs at Manus.
Here is the situation in the Indian Ocean. The main KB is to the NW, but there are also carriers with what appear to be both surface combat and support forces to the SE.

All units are in place for the attack SW of Toungoo, so tomorrow is the day. 118,571 troops, 3,028 AV, 140 tanks, 12 armored cars, and plenty of artillery.
The IJN carriers are heading into the Strait of Malacca. It looks as though the subs we dispatched to cover the Java Sea will be on station in time, should the carriers transit there.
Another TF, this one a two-CA bombardment/SC TF took off from Truk on its own. It's about 9 hexes NE of Truk and was on its way to one of the northern Marianas Islands. It's been recalled, but is spotted at 8/8 so maybe at least it will give some misinformation.

An attack SE of Kunming was repulsed yet again, although many disabled squads were destroyed. It seems the 50th Indian Para Bde, with anti-tank weapons, was critical to the defense. The USA 754th Tank Bn is moving down from Kunming to stiffen the defense. BTW, the 25th Chinese Corps arrived just in time for this combat (in combat mode) and with low disruption certainly was a key part of the defense.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Australian division tasked with protecting Tsuyung overshot the mark, some staff flunky forgetting their original orders to march to Kunming, so they are one hex SE and marching back to Tsuyung. The attack NE of Tsuyung made progress, but will it prove quick enough? The commander of 7th War Area HQ has been replaced.
Regarding Imperial supply in Burma, SW of Toungoo I will order artillery units' bombardments to continue while the assault troops rest, even though that will raise experience of the defenders. The three P-47 squadrons will sweep Pegu while five B-24J squadrons at Dimapur (34 ready aircraft) will bomb the airfield, hoping for supply hits.
The only shining light in the CBI theater was an accidental ambush of bombers over Kunming. Both P-38 squadrons were assigned to LRCAP Tsuyung but their aggressive commanders brought them farther south. In two raids some 27 Judy DB were accounted for (26 were A2A), and a handful of other bombers in subsequent raids.
Recon show the troop count increasing at Babeldaob, now 10,800, and search shows a convoy there. Our invasion force is undetected and the carriers will be in range to launch air strikes tomorrow, so hopefully they will catch some troops at sea.

Seeing that the defenders there are short of supply means that we should press them. Weatherall, although a good commander overall, has been sacked in favor of Alexander at IV Indian Corps HQ, which is on scene. He has much higher inspiration and leadership skills, although his more aggressiveness might be a double-edged sword. 4th USMC Div is 92% disrupted. The commander - quite good - has been swapped out for Noble, who has a significantly higher leadership rating, higher ground rating, and (double-edged sword) is even more aggressive. BTW, supply in Burma might well become an issue for this offensive. Sining is falling slowly but falling all the same.
Due to sightings of my subs in the area plus time and distance from the last sighting, I consider it likely that the main IJN carriers are somewhere in the triangle of water between Borneo, Sumatra, and Malaya, possibly transiting to the Java Sea.
Our carriers, technically unspotted although their planes did harass an IJN sub, will take up station 1 hex NE of Babeldaob tomorrow along with the invasion convoy. Fleet elements from Truk are almost a day behind and will be on site for the landing the day after. Recon of Babeldaob shows 10,500 troops, 120 guns, and 45 AFV. That Imperial convoy is now at Peleliu although it was spared by heavy weather. Rain is predicted for tomorrow. The B-24 raids on Babeldaob went well enough, but did cost 4 of the big guys. 3x Fast BB will bombard tonight in an attempt to catch some of the many ships in port by surprise.
The two regiments for Biak will begin loading at Lae, then pick up supply at Manus on their way to Biak.

Our B-24s got through to Pegu without loss, but supply hits were hard to come by (only 1 that I counted in the various raids). They will continue, especially since the P-47 sweeps also came out clean but took out a number of Imperial tie fighters. As the second relief division pulls into Rangoon in two days, two armored regiments are pulling out to make their way up to Toungoo and join the battle to its south.
