"SNP"? What sort of fancy, new-fangled acronym is that? Sonny...back in my day we had an INP and a UNP and we were happy with that. What sort of craziness is this to expand the _NP categories willy-nilly?
Some days, I just don't know...

Hi Des. Not that I'm questioning your emu amazingness, but do you fly? I mean, does irl Des fly?
Hi there John... In IRL I'm only a passenger I'm afraid, but I do dabble in cyberspace. I have quite a few hours up on my custom Cargo MD-11, which I fly and land in FSX. Then of course there is my Emu persona, in which I can absolutely soar. [;)]

My Granddad always reckoned that Kids were good for lawns, as they aerated them. But apparently cows on pogo sticks a better, but do add to global methane levels.

Sorry to hear that the fires are ongoing, Reg. I looked at a wildfire map last week and it (Australia) was nearly confluent fires. Very sad. Any rain on the forecast?
No significant rain in the foreseeable future for this area. They said they are looking at a two week firefighting campaign. Having said that it looks like they are on top of things at the moment with no inhabited areas currently under threat so with a bit of luck it will stay that way.
We are the designated relief center for the area and the local show grounds are full of campers and caravans. Hopefully they will have somewhere to go back to afterwards.....

It's been a few days since he posted here. Should we be concerned?

Hi Des. You know here in the States, it's possible to get a cheap, short, sport license. I got one because there's a bunch of Navy guys flying over my head every weekend, and my stodgy Piper would be an elephant in a cage of gazelles. So I got a Sport Certificate. No Med exam, just a heart beat.
Sport planes run the gamut from powered gliders up to the x-planes the Navy guys fly. My favorite, though, is the Zodiac. Samll, slow, maneuverable as all heck, like being a bird: more like wearing a plane than flying one. Utterly fantastic. A completely different experience.
I like the Zodiac because it's a side-by. Room enough for me, and a nice space for Beaudy the Wonder Dog. BTW, Beaudy's learning the difference between "roadtrip" and "airplane". What a good dog!
But I don't think an emu is as weighty as a springer spaniel; either in volume or in bulk. So you could get righteuos and then take your flightless alter-ego on a tour of your local neighborhood.
But you will have some trash to talk to some of the other folks that hang out here.
Ciao. JWE

...why my poultrified friend, i thought everyone of any tenure in the ranks of THREADOM would recogize SNP = "Shiny New Page"...of course, it is also an INP, but that's beside the point...i humbly put forward to the denizens of the one and only true THREAD that "SNP" be henceforth adopted into the most holy of lexicons...
...or i can just put SNP (tm) on all future occurances of new pages...whatever...

...wow, John, that looks really cool! how is it landing one of these sweeties in a 10 knot crosswind? reminds me of my T-34 days in Monterey while attending NPS...i didn't realize that this "sport" category doesn't require an exam...[X(]...might make my re-entry into piloting earlier than planned...

I love flight sims as well Des!
I have all significant ones from past 20 years and I was involved with development of some of those for years... [8D]
BTW, do you have some add-ons for FSX?

Mornin' you lot.
Warming up a little bit here. 7F this morning. Trust me-it seems blissfully warm!
Also, my father was admitted to the hospital last night. As good timing would have it, he was visiting a pulmonologist (lung specialist) for a nagging cough that he'd had for a couple weeks. They took his blood O2 reading (pulse oximetry) and found he had a PaO2 of 78% in the office (normal = 97-99.5%). These levels are incompatible with life. He was immediately transported to the hospital and is undergoing treatment there. When last I spoke with my mother, he had stabilized. We'll see how the night went...
He's 81 this year, so fingers crossed.
