Yes, you are right. 4 blade prop. High mounted tail. Ugly wing folding system with special drying racks to make dried apricots or something.

Definitely NOT Cleveland. Too picturesque.
The eaves have huge overhangs and many roofs are very steeply pitched and there are quite a few very oddly designed two story houses with 15x15 ft first floors.

According to one source, the high buildings at top left are the stands at Ascot Racecourse (now Eagle Farm Racecourse).
Another source said that (at least some of) the aircraft were P-40s waiting for reassembly*, while others were aircraft for aircraft carriers (c. 1943)
*i don't think this is correct (i think they misidentified the Barracudas), but that is what the second source said.

Fulmars. Not sure why they have 4 blade props.
The FAA version of the Spitfire - the Seafire - was given a 4 blade prop to get extra acceleration and wind over the wings on take-off.
I don't think the overall performance of the Seafire was better than the Spitfire because of the heavier landing gear and arrester hook,
but clearly the extra lift to get off a short deck was a priority.
I am not aware of any US-built army fighters that used a four-blade prop so I figure that rules out any P-39/P-40 variants.

Agree that the planes in the pic weren't P-39 or P-40s.
P-47D had 4-blade prop (as did the F4U4 Corsair, but that was not an Army plane). The planes with 4-blade prop in photo aren't P-47s, though.

Dang!! I knew those houses were Queenslanders (a very distinctive architectural style) but I thought the pic might have been taken in NZ as they are very similar.
Hamilton is near Eagle Farm Racecourse (a military airfield during the war) so that caption sounds plausible.
Bretts Wharf these days has been developed into a complex of waterfront condominiums worth a gazillion dollars each. I wonder if the current owners are aware of how rough the area used to be?

Looks like Martlett II's in front and some kind of export P-40 with the wings off in back.
Totally the wrong undercarriage for a Martlett. They are Hellcat F Mk.II (F6F-5). Note also the Corsairs with the upward folding wings on the far side.
The other planes are Barracuda as I pointed out in post 15367. (Wow, "The Thread" has nothing on this one).
