If you really want to micro then you can also check if unit is motorized or non motorized
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 6&t=383164
Unfortunately game does not provide different labels, nor preview of a unit, before an assignment. So you have to check it in CR for example and only then making an assignment.
Is that in response to my post, Stamb?

Got to thinking is there an "normal" number of Blizzard turns in a year or is it basically pray and hope?

I have escorts to set 120%, yet when ground support is toggled on, I am having a lot of bomber casualties / losses and I have noticed that there are no fighters in the battle (as if the bombers are not escorted). What might be the cause of this? Assuming that the bombers are still within operational range.

The two possibilities i can think of are either your fighters are out of range (is that what you meant with the last sentence? presumably your bombers have been in range if they've been flying bombing runs), or your fighters used up all their flight % on previous missions during the week. I suppose your fighters' air base(s) could be out fuel, but i don't see that happen much/if at all(maybe as the germans? i mostly play soviets).

Why am I unable to select the Northwest Recon Group for the Recon air directive I would like to make?

Is there a way to Set up AoGs to a specific size like below;
Recon - 50 aircraft. 50 will fit on a Level 1 airbase
Strategic Recon - 100 aircraft. Level 2.
Fighters - 100 aircraft. One Level 2 or two Level 1.
Stukas - 100. Level 1.
110’s - 100. Level 2.
LBs - 100. Level 2.
Transports - 100. Level 2.

I hope I am answering the question asked by Elizabeth:
When I want specific squadrons to do a thing, I ensure that "Show Air Groups" is ticked at the bottom right of the window. Then when you click on the map, you can then select the air group by clicking on the "++" symbol for the desired squadron.

How might I be able to figure out if fighters are out of range? I performed an attack and enabled ground support to help crack a soviet division, but took large losses for my bombers in the process...

welcome to a world of a micro control
click on a fighter groups that are in the same ground support mission as your bombers, check their range circles, check ammo/fuel on their airbases and most importantly check traveled % for EACH squadron
happy clicking

with the Soviets by late war, yes. You have so many potential AOG that it is easy (indeed a very good idea) to customise them around this sort of criteria. With the Axis its harder. you often only just about have enough AOG to command all your assets and especially the figthers get really spread out.
You can mitigate this a little as there are some odd AOGs such as the flieger divisions that can hold a variety of plane types and that eases the demand on your JG style AOGs

Hmm ok, not sure how I do that, guess i'll need to read through the actual rulebook for that. Here is what my air doctrine looks like for ground support:

AFV Loss ratios Early, Mid, Late... I am trying to establish a good loss ratio against Russians as a German Player.
At the moment on T3 i have a lost 170 mainly Panzer III to approx 4100 russion... I know that in essence we should lose minimal as precious item for Germans...
I lost 160 on T3 in 3 battles AGS 1st Panzer --- bad mistake... however i learn.
Any thoughts based on experience ??
Kind regards

I *never* use my pz divisions for direct combat with soviet armored formations. Mainly due to paper thin armor, you'll take more casualties than its worth it. I have found that its best to bring up infantry div with anti-tank to take care of soviet armored formations, and continue to use pzdivs for flipping hexes after a breakthrough occurs.

...
i have no good screenshots with a bombers but will try to explain on this example:
1. lets say that one of this JG AOGs are actually not JG with fighters but KG or StG with bombers
2. if i set GS for LW Kdo East - then all of this planes (unless set to rest) should participate in GS missions

- 1.png (562.05 KiB) Viewed 936 times
3. to check range i just select AOG and click on a checkbox with Rng Circles. This is escort range or bomb range for that specific group.

- 2.png (3.99 MiB) Viewed 936 times
4. to check ammo/fuel/support personnel you click on AOG or air base
4.1 AOG view:
you can see that there is no icons with ammo or fuel or personnel that would indicate that it is missing
4.2 air base view - select AOG and click on air base where planes of this AOG are located

- air base.png (2.65 MiB) Viewed 936 times
5. to check traveled distance - click on specific group inside AOG

could not add image for
4.1 AOG view:
you can see that there is no icons with ammo or fuel or personnel that would indicate that it is missing
for some reason
so here it goes

- aog.png (206.45 KiB) Viewed 935 times
as you can see everything is fine
and this is an example when nothing is fine and different things are missing from an airbase:

That's exactly what I was looking for - thanks Stamb. I seem to be flying GS missions with healthy amounts of fighters. After confirming, my fighter squadrons were just too far away.

In the manual (18.3.5. Gaining and losing experience) it says that you can do traning missions in the Reserve TB. I can only see normal mission-settings. If I have mission setting Day or Day/Night - is that training mission?
Second question. Is it consuming fuel when doing training missions? Attrition I do understand is added, but can not find anything about fuel.

somewhere in that section of the manual it sets the criteria. If I recall its if the air unit's avg experience < air NM then it trains, unless you set it to rest. So basically over time low exp air groups will reach NM (it might be unit morale?), certainly NM as modified by say Gds status. So its automatic unless you over-ride it.
it takes fuel and triggers some attrition - you can see this in the logistics log. Losses are under the TB section (look for the reserve), losses and fuel is at the top of that section in the summary comments (this will split events in the actual reserve vs events in other theatres)

i think in logistics report it is saying how much fuel was consumed for a training
but the thing is that fuel is irrelevant in this game
you will never run out of it, no matter what you do
