Should we start over?

Mus, you may have a point. But if they did that, HOW did the first turn's combination work? Am I missing something?

Because the first turn (Turn 0) was done off my French T zero files. Then when we get to Turn 1 somebody accidently uses the false start files that Randomizer sent out so when we go to merge Turn 1 somebody is sending files that are in effect from a different game.

Everyone please make sure you are using the correct Turn 1 files from Spain.

The "false start" files were in an email entitled Re: AlthistA kickoff. The correct files were in an email entitled Turn 1.

Oh! So you are saying that someone accidentally used the files which Spain first generated (incorrectly and by accident) instead of the files which he sent the second time (correctly).

Okay. I see what you are saying.

Have deleted all previous PBEM files and will attempt to combine when all resends have arrived.  Fingers and toes crossed...

Edited 1730 GMT
As of this AM have received new files from France and England (sorry, Britain) and successfully combined them. Did this in my original but now surplus, CoG-EE installation so the issue may have been corrupt files after all. Or maybe something to do with phases of the moon or the malice of the evil Cat when she's out of sight...

As files come in I will test each one seperately and if all work, we should be a Go to continue.

I believe somebody, maybe even more than one person, used the false start files.

Perhaps we could have somebody deliberately do a test turn off the false start files at a later date and try a recombine and see if we get the same result (error message, CTD, computer crashes, whatever it was).

Have only received new files from France, Britain, Poland and Turkey.

Have determined a work around that seems to prevent the CDT when combining PBEM files; when starting CoG-EE off a cold boot with no other windows open, pressing the Combine PBEM Files button opens the Save folder and this allows selection of the PBEM folder and the required save files.  Then combination appears to work normally and the game runs.  Once the game has been pointed to the PBEM folder once, the CTD returns when the Combine PBEM Files button is pressed and a fresh, cold restart is needed for the next turn.  Curiously this does not work just restarting windows, the computer has to be turned off completely.

If the AltHist game is still a go please advise.

Cheers, Randomizer

Edit
Add Prussia to the list.

It's still a go as far as I am concerned. C'mon guys get your turns in, make sure you use the proper files.

Just redid and resent the Prussian turn 1, based on the files that Chris sent me on Sept 27.
Hope they work, and let me know if there is a problem!

I think I just received a note from Andrew Kurtz stating that he may have to drop out of this if we get the game rolling again anytime soon. Let me see if I can get another guy from the playtesting team on this (or add a new member to the playtesting team).

I did ask Andrew if he could try to redo his last turn so we can do another layer of trouble shooting before he "departs". I hope he can swing that. But we may need another player then.

Who hasn't sent in their redone turn 1 files?

I think it is Andrew Kurtz who hasn't sent in the turn redo, but he said he doesn't have time to play unless we wait to get rolling again in a couple of months. I have no problem with him quitting (he says he has too much going on right now, and I am cool with that). I had asked him if he could send the turn redo files. But maybe we should just start over then? And perhaps we can switch the Spanish player for another player so we may avoid a computer issue? I would still love to play Poland though.

It looks like Mus is bound to win sometime soon in Another PBEM, so maybe I could consider joining . . . what spot is it that is left?

@Anthropoid

Well, we have one spot left. And I think you could be either Russia or Spain. Do you have any experience with combining files?

We had a slight hiccup in this game because of a combine file problem. And we may switch the Spanish player to Russia. Which would leave Spain open.

Well, I'd be a bit hesitant to take on the file switcher role . . .

Hi Marshall!

I'm fine with restarting.
But would prefer waiting till i get back from vacation.
I'm keeping up with one game ok, but two would stretch, especially starting off new again!
Just keep me posted!
