Hi Andy

Is there any way (other than the editor) to figure out when a unit changes it´s TOE and how the new TOE looks like. I know I have to set my LCUs to rest to see their TOE change but if I don´t know that they change and don´t know when then I will keep them on combat and then of course they´ll never change.

thanks

Hi, excellent AAR and excellent summarization of your forces. Hope we will se more in the future.

What actually changes jungle TOE upgrade? Simply change of motorized support to normal one - resulting in lesser load cost? Does it change anything else?

Yup click on the TOE for the unit if its yellow at the top it will show you the next TOE and how many days until the change is available

Jungle TOE's vary.

Typically they lose some Arty and Motorised support plus a fair amount of AA and AT weapons which have limited utilility in the Jungle - the load cost reduces dramatically but the organic support level increases as they become more self sufficient.

17th Indians is a special one because it was a hybrid where it lost a lot of heavy equipment and became a 'light div' 100% on animal transport.

Australia

Australia poses an interesting challenge in AE.

As things stand now I have 5 Militia Divs all understrength and very low of artillery and support weapons - they have the capacity to get reasonably strong but they are all weak at start and in need of time, equipment and replacements

I also get 3 militia Cavalry Bdes also relatively weak, 2 Militia Motor Bdes and 3 Indpt Militia Inf Bns

In total the militia is 852 Inf Squads under strength in this game at present.

The AIF has 3 Pioneer Bns and 4 Inf Divs of which 1 (8th) is understrength its about 1 Bde in strength between the various detachments so the AI is short 210 squads

My personal rule of thumb is I wont commit to a decent fight withiout a reserve of 1/3rd so for each Div I commit I need to have at least 1 Bdes worth of replacements.

So if in the next 18 months I want to bring all my formations up to strength and allow a 3 Divisional Corps of Australian Troops go on the attack (the AIF) then I need 108 squads per Div in reserve or 324 exta squads.

So in total I need about 1400 squads.

Now in the next 18 months I recieve as replacements about 900 squads.......

So that does not compute......even in a no disband game I cannot keep the Australian Army all in the fight.

Something has to give I will have to cannibalise some forces or accept that I cannot rebuild everything.

The obvious candidate for timed disbandment are the 3 Militia and 3 AIF Indpt Bns so 216 squads from them - the other obvious candidate is to cannibalise one of the Milita Divs at some stage despite the TOE upgrade they get at the end of 1942 I have limited options certainly rebuilding 8th Aus Div is difficult.

Not a lot to say other than given what happened v String at Darwin I have lost confidence in my troops to hold at PM

If even good troops lose 5;1 behind lvl 2 forts with no disrption and low fatigue I aint sure what would happen when the troop quality is not as good.

I was relying on the CD gun regiment I brought in and the Infantry reinforcements but String was hardly touched by a much bigger CD gun battery and didnt hit a single mine (i had over 300 protecting Darwin)

So I am now totally lacking confidence in my garrison of PM as it is not of the standard of the Darwin garrison

Going to have to think about evaccing as I am not going to waste troops in an udefendable position.

Andy

I am bugging out remember the above was just to demonstrate why I am bugging out - not enough AA/AT and decent infantry....

"bug out" seems so much more military than "Sir Robin."

One advantage to the 17th is you can start prepping it for Imphal from the get go.

Andy,

22 Jan and you still field Buffalos on your carriers? Why? You should have enough F4F-3 to have them upgraded weeks ago. Especially if you have other squadrons flying the F4F-3 that could be downgraded. The carrier that fields the Buffalos is at quite some disadvantage IMO. The difference between the Buffalo and the F4F-3 could be a torp hit on a carrier or no torp hit on a carrier IMO.
