Don't forget to garrison the ports in the Crimea.

Yes, his fort spam is a total waste of APs. The proper amount of APs that ought to be spent on these in 1941 is approximately zero. He'd be better off simply banking the points if he cannot figure out what to do with them. But there ought to be plenty of other things for him to do with them.

He's dropping hundreds of APs on forts near as I can tell. Total waste.

Not to pry in what's going on over in Red's AAR, but is he getting any advice over there? If he is he must not be following it and shutting down others ideas or something. I usually don't feel bad about beating someone but this has me worried over the long run. I hope he can make a good winter offensive.

AH! Good idea, thats the last thing I need in my rear area. Thanks, thats a perfect job for some Romanians.

He's going to do what he wants to do and has already decided that the game is badly designed. I consider it pointless to try to give him advice that's going to be disregarded as being "gamey."

This is another case of his southern front disintegrating in a instant. BLAM! BOOM! BANG!, and its cracked wide open. When will he learn the hard lesson of defense in depth and to garrison his cities. I hope I managed to capture a factory! [8D]

Bless the Romanians, Italians, and the Hungarian security brigades and their selfless desire to garrison the rear.

Really?!? I hope he continues play if he considers the game 'badly designed'. I'm putting a lot of time into this AAR and would hate for him to back out on me.

I kind of thought he must be disregarding advice over there. [8|]

Reading both AARs, so not really commenting (as I don't want to flavor my responses). I am interested however that one thing from my games vs the AI seems to happen vs players too at times, the late Fall opening up of certain areas as the capture/routing of too many USSR formations hits. The sense I have always gotten from my reading is the "possibility" of large gains, just as the mud hit in 1941 - an added sense of "could have been" in this campaign. For you, Carnage, it seems in the South you are in the position of the real vKleist - open plains ahead (it seems), just no gas and winter closing in...

It looks bad for the Russian (and it is) but bad weather and massive Soviet re-enforcements have a tendency to help even things out. He isn't beat by any means and to think that he is would be a mistake imo.

While the Germans have had spectacular successes (well earned btw), there are some worrying signs. The center around Moscow looks thin and looks really thin when you project the offensive out towards Moscow. Even if you get there, without significant additional troops, I don't think you will be able to keep it, but it still may be worth it from the standpoint of the disruption it will cause. I also agree that this is an area that you don't really send additional troops to yet because you have a shot at Leningrad. If you get that one, you get to keep it and free a pile of Finns up, which is huge. He is under pressure all over, which is good because it means if he tries to save Leningrad, it will mean less troops elsewhere. At this point, the Germans need to kill as many Russian units as possible to prevent him from building up.

Really good AAR and I have been learning quite a bit. Shame he is wasting all those AP's on forts.

Yes this actually has me worried a bit. I'm going to far out run my supply line in the south. I have no troops to cover this frontage yet. Hope fully he won't either unless he takes them from the Sumy front region where he is over-garrisoning IMO.

Carnage, he flatly refuses to use checkerboards and defense in depth. He considers them dishonorable. Evidently, even garrisons in rear cities violate his code of ethics. This is preposterous, but there it is, and there's no arguing with that kind of stance. For him, the fact that a purely linear defense will not work is evidence of flaws in the game design. He would rather change the game mechanics than alter his play.

Wow, just wow indeed, refusal to use a multi layered defense makes this kind of encirclement possible. Cracked wide open. I'd say, have fun. [:D]

Well, keep showing him the error of his ways, I guess.

Expect a diatribe on why the game should be changed so a linear defence in un-entrenched hexes should be enough to stop panzer corps dead in their tracks.

why isnt he railing units to that little town just above the volkhov river...qick rail then a move down a couple hexes in those swamps? THou now that I look at it, its too late cause you are gonna knock that 2-5 out next turn and rail will be cut

Multi-Layered defenses aren't all a bed of roses, either. Although it makes it tougher to get encirclements, if I am the German player I will pick on the weak Rifle Divisions up front, just to gain morale, kill Soviets, and cause routs. Though not as spectacular as encirclements, a couple turns of that will produce high kill ratios, and the Soviets will run-out of "Ready" units to build a checkerboard with. (edit: Do this with Infantry). If you can't easily encircle them, grind the checkerboard a turn or two, and you will see some results I bet.

The Soviets get plenty of bad rifle divisions, but not as many that are ready for action.

But it's better than stacking everyone up front!

I'm kind of disappointed that Red is being so stubborn. It takes away from the game somewhat. Make me wish I never asked. From this point on I really don't want to know what Red's opinions are. I can only hope that he will change his stance on defense or he is a really good offensive player.

I still hope you enjoy the AAR and I will still enjoy the 'glory' of looking so stellar of a player...LOL [:D]

I don't think Carnage is gonna like it down south when he gets the turn. An interesting AAR got even more interesting. [:D]
