Turn 39

Overall
We try to attack, but the results are far from satisfying. Even the Fins struggle now, so I have to ship two German divisions to Finland. Not going well at all.
6 USSR attacks gives 1 held and 5 retreats. Compare that to our 39 attacks which gave 22 helds, 16 retreats and 1 rout.

Casualties
USSR : 81.000 troops, 1.008 guns, 101 AFVs, 419 AC.

Turn 40

Overall
Both sides fight on the line, but the USSR is doing a lot better. True, they lose more men, but not by a large enough margin, and they have a higher success rate in their attacks. Even when I bring superior numbers, planes, guns and tanks do we have a guaranteed success...
29 USSR attacks gave 5 helds and 24 retreats, while our 35 attacks gave 14 helds, 18 retreats, 2 routs and 1 surrender.

Casualties
USSR : 132.000 troops, 1.696 guns, 202 AFVs, 513 AC.

You should use offensive reserves.

would you not be better to sit on the defensive till the weather clears?

realise you probably want to disrupt the Soviet defences but you can't really trade losses at 3:5 and wonder if you can get a better return for your attacks by waiting till May?

I think it's too early to concede iniative. In my game against Schascha I managed to gain ground until the mud. After I faced a concrete wall but attacked till beginning of july.

I stopped at this moment because my attacks were too expensive.

15 retreats for 17 attacks during mud in spring 1942??? USSR is so strong or your units were totally non-entrenched?

Ah, you must remember that I create this post after MY turn, since I am the Axis, the USSR attacks are actually from the previous turn [;)]

och, I'm sure you and your opponent will manage to burn some of those tanks soon enough [8D]

--- that is, as long as you can coax them out of their nice safe factories

Terje, use the bad weather to recon his lines heavily you should have enough planes available. Then pick an area of his front line then hit it hard with a Panzer ball, use 3 Panzer Armee's along with preliminary attacks by Infantry to break through the front line(s). Try to keep your attacks limited to units from the same Korps to minimise CV reductions. The final Panzer Armee should be used to exploit any breakthrough that you may have. I don't think that his fort levels will have gotten to big as it seems as though he followed you in force and there must be areas where he will be on the edge of his supply range.
Good Luck.

Thank you. Well, the problem is the rolls I keep getting (seriously), coupled with the fact that his lines are three hexes deep :(
But we'll see what happens come usable weather again.

(btw, anyone else getting a weird "setup" of the reply/message pop-up box? One loooong line of text...)
