I have to 'splain it because it involves irony.
Scoring at will in other sports that have point scores most often would entail a high score and for that matter scoring.

If we had in football results like 80 - 82 then it would not be football but basketball [8D]

Also note how small the basket (in basketball) is and yet they easily score many points. And now think about the HUGE football goal... Yes, that huge thing should be swallowing many many goals. But er... it doesn't. Why? Because all things being equal scoring is not that easy, go figure [;)]

In other words, football is football, not basketball.
