Meanwhile in Russia, the Russians launch there first attacks of the entire War.

JANUARY 2, 1942


The Kriegsmarine sorties and another 14 MS are sent to the bottom of the Atlantic. 5 U-Boat hits. The RN chases the German Fleet with CVs and BBs, but no luck finding them.

The Germans destroy a British division in Algeria and the British respond in kind.

The remains of the Italian Fleet are sunk.

Russia Before Attacks. I am surprised that the out of supply Germans units did not retreat.

And After

A good couple weeks in the BOA and the Murmansk convoy as only 3 MS are sunk and 7 U-Boat hits are scored. Unfortunately, my pursuers caught up with the German Fleet and it did not go well for the RN.

I make a number of low odds attacks in Russia similar to this one.

My purpose is primarily to increase Russian experience. I think I increased from 42% (where I had been stuck for about 4 months) to 45% this turn. Despite bombing the Finns every turn my air experience is still a dreadful 37%.

JANUARY 30, 1942

The Axis withdraw just about all troops from North Africa. I forgot to take a screenshot, but only Tripoli remains to be liberated.

In Russia the Winter Offensive near Kabozha continues.

The Russian even pushed the Germans back a hex near Moscow. But when Spring comes the Axis will still be on the doorstep of the Capital.

Russian experience is now 47%.

February 13, 1942

9 MS sunk, but the U-Boats take 9 hits as well.

The Russian Winter Offensive starts winding down with just a few attacks.

The Axis have completely evacuated North Africa except for a single poor Italian Corps that was destroyed this turn.

The big question is where do the Allies invade next? The Options are:

1. Denmark. The Axis have even left a port open. If I can capture Copenhagen than it opens up the entire Baltic Coastline for subsequent invasion. But this will not be easy and the the neck of Denmark is easily defended.

2. The Netherlands. Make the Germans pay for not conquering it. But holding it in 42 will be difficult if the Germans want to retake it. However, I might distract enough Germans to save Russia.

3. France. Probably Brittany as it has the ports and is more defensible.

4. Vichy France. A couple Wide open ports; but capturing other ports will be difficult. Especially as the Germans have a several units in Northern Italy.

5. Sicily. At the moment it is not well defended. But advancing up the boot is not easy.

6. Portugal and Spain. With the new Rule that Spain automatically joins the Axis when Portugal is invaded, I am not sure if this will work.

I welcome your advice.

FEBRUARY 27, 1942

5 MS sunk, but only 3 are British as the German U-Boats are also attacking the Murmansk convoy and its US MS. 4 hits on U-Boats are scored during the convoy phase and I get 2 more hits on a U-Boat pack that wandered too close to my Land Air. So for the 2nd turn in a row as many or more U-Boats are hit as MS are sunk. The UK also receives 20 more MS this turn from production, so I creep back over 100 total UK MS.

Other than a couple more attacks in Russia there is no action anywhere. I was going to share some Forces and other screenshots, but due to technical issues with the Forum not accepting pictures this will ahve to wait.

Fantastic play as the UK, really impressive.

If you can muster the landing capacity to do the Netherlands and Denmark at once...
