Looks like Penguins are used on F-16, helicopters of various types, and ships... no mention of them on the P-3.

EDIT: The Penguin has a 120-130 kg warhead (depending on model) - again, unless it missed by quite a margin, it would have been more than enough to mince up a 12 meter patrol boat.

RE-EDIT: The warhead on the latter Mavericks can be even bigger (136 kg), but the one on the earlier models is "only" 57 kg.

Gratuitous to launch a missile that's probably worth more than the target but we seem to like doing that.

i am guessing it would more likely have been a Hellfire... taking a hit from a Harpoon probably would have done in a Libyan coast guard vessel pretty quickly without chances for "limping".

EDIT: a 12 meter patrol boat would probably be matchsticks had it taken a direct or even near hit from a Harpoon.

ANOTHER EDIT: P-3 can carry Mavericks - no mention of Hellfire capability in what i looked up... also can carry Zuni rockets.

• Use your CD/DVD writing software to write the encrypted file onto the CD/DVD. BTW, I recommend ImgBurn, also free. (Note that for large files like the 4,485MB needed for a DVD, the writing software must use UDF encoding.)

When I have used CD's/DVD's for backup I took to encrypting them so I could just throw them away when they were obsolete without feeling like I should cut them up into pieces. I use Truecrypt when I do that.

Bear in mind that with Truecrypt there are (my words) essentially two modes: whole drives and files (meaning it makes a container with files inside). The whole drive thing is the newer one, which allows you to encrypt an entire volume on, for example, a laptop. That way it helps with security if it's stolen, or if someone tries to put a trojan on it to grab your passwords, and so on. The whole drive thing (with any software out there) is for reading/writing.

CD/DVD's/Bluerays are different than hard drives, flash drives, etc. whether they be USB or otherwise because the optical drives are created (i.e. written to) once, then they are read only after that (options of adding data to optical disks notwithstanding as they just write to previously unused portions).

The other method - encrypting files, aka containers, is what to use in this case. Truecrypt allows you to create an encrypted file, mount that file as a drive, and then write to/read from it as though it were an ordinary hard drive. When you dismount the "drive", it's just an ordinary file.

To do what you want, the basic steps are:

• Use Truecrypt to create an encrypted file. To take up the whole disk without going over, make it be 700MB for a CD, 4,485MB for a DVD.
• Use Truecrypt to mount the encrypted file you just created. It will show up as a new hard drive letter (it will be very obvious to you when you do this).

When you want to read the encrypted file on the CD/DVD, you can copy it to the hard drive then use Truecrypt to mount it, or use Truecrypt to mount it as read-only directly from the CD/DVD.

One of the advantages of using something like Truecrypt instead of, say, SecureZip (free for non-commercial use) is that it makes a monolithic container and you can not see file names, sizes, or anything else about what is inside unless you decrypt/open the container file. With products like SecureZip a thief can look at file names and at least know that he has the right file to try attacking (or then try to steal your password with a password grabber). With Truecrypt there is no information at all available about what is inside (except that it can't be larger than the container after compression). It just looks like a gibberish data file.

In the world of Physics/Comsmology: someone has come up with an idea lining gravity to thermodynamics, as well as linking the whole thing to string theory and quantum mechanics.

According to this new theory, gravity is a special kind of entropy. Starting with the ideas of energy, entropy and tempature, the author (Verlinde) derives Newton's laws, and then extends them to further derive the General Theory of Relativity.

Several other physicists (Easson, Framton, and nobel laureate Smoot) have gotten on board and pointed out that the concept of entropic gravity also removes the need for "dark energy", the mysterious stuff that is said to cause accelerating expansion of the universe. "Their calculated acceleration macthes the observed acceleration as inferred by its effect on the relative brightness of supernova observations".

So, maybe a whole new unified theory of everything is in the offing...[8D]

Of course, this is all preliminary and still not accepted by most physicists yet.

I have in my mind a picture of a Libyan coast guard 12 meter patrol boat and I'm still thinking either a hellfire or maverick would be worth more than it. [;)] That it wasn't engaged until sunk is mindboggling.

Of course when y'all start talking about 12 meter boats, I picture something completely different:

12 meter boat? heck...why not just drop a stick of sonobouys on it? [;)] i can't confirm any of the ordnance...in my day, they only let us carry really big torps and depth charges...[:(]...probably the reason the P-3 "missed" was because there was a HR against 4E naval attacks from less than 10k...[X(]
