N/D 41 Axis 3

Germany and Italy declares war on US, just to prevent nasty surprises in the future.

Italy combined, Germany combined, Japan naval

West Med: FW Condor to box 4, Italian and German FTR to box 2.
Italian Coast: German FTR to box 2.

German/Italian subs to Bay of Biscay, North Atlantic, Cape St. Vincent and Cape Verde Basin.

Japs send ships to many sea areas.

Things you don't see in naval combat phase:
CP and CV to The Marshalls box 0, 2xCV and CA to box 3
TRANS and MAR from Canton to Singora
TRANS and MIL from Nagoya to Canton

Naval combat is declined in 4 sea areas where Allies have only submarines. Axis initiates naval combat in 11 sea areas.

West Med first. Italy intercepts NAV to box 2. Do CW want to fly more planes?

Meanwhile in Cape Verde Basin, get ready to be amazed!

Axis 10, Allies 1. Four CW cruisers finds a German sub.

Maximum damage to sub is X 2D. That comes with both surface and submarine combat (4 points used). I chose to use points to avoid A for CW.

Rolling 10 and 10 submarine is only damaged! They had 1% chance to be surprised like this and 2% chance to survive and tell about it!

North Atlantic: Axis 10, Allies 3.

How do you want to play this?

If Sunderland does not fly to West Med, it can fly to Cape St. Vincent (5 Axis submarines in boxes 2 and 3) or Bay of Biscay (3 subs in box 4).

Edit: US fighter in Casablanca was able to intercept also. Is that OK during surprise impulse?

In UK there is a Swordfish and some fighters and bombers that can fly to Bay of Biscay.

Only one slight issue. I'm guessing 2 points were used to reduce the losses to NE and the rest to increase damage. I would have risked the A to get the X,2D increased to 2X and make sure of the sub. The two 10's would still sink it. A can go on one of the 2 CL's in the 4-box.

Maximum damage was X 2D (both surface and submarine combat). With surface CW would have taken A. Using 4 points to get submarine combat result is the same for Axis, but there is not target for submarines.

Edit: I go double check that. I tried to get 2X result before.

Edit2: X 2D is maximum. CW has 12 surprise points and 8 ASW or 7 naval attack.

Fair enough. Good call, thanks.

In North Atlantic, does this work? 4 points to chose sub combat and the remainder to increase damage to 2D, 3A (I think).

It works pretty well. Both are damaged and aborted.

How do CW want to fly planes in other sea areas in Europe? See three posts above for situation.

Moving to Biscay. Can the Swordfish make the 1-box? If so, fly that there and the Hurricane to the 0-box, thanks.

Axis 1, Allies 6.

Boxes 1 and 2 are selected. Not enough points to get X and target it to TRANS.

3 CP's sinks and 3 CP's are aborted. Do they go to Liverpool?

Next is Cape St. Vincent. Do Sunderland fly to box 3 because there is CVP in box 0?

Yes please, we'll give that a try.

Edit: I don't think it was right for the US fighters to fly when they are surprised, so I decline to use them. Maybe they can still fly but can't participate? Perhaps something for Tech Support?
