Another example of a strawman is the following:

Alex: I think that a bigger portion of our company’s budget should go to customer support, because we’re currently struggling in that area.

Bob: if we spend all of our money on customer support like you’re suggesting, we’ll go bankrupt in a year.

In this example, Bob is using a strawman, when he distorts Alex’s original stance in order to make it easier to attack. Specifically, while Alex proposes that the company should spend a bigger portion of their budget on customer support, Bob attacks the idea that the company should spend all of their budget on customer support, which is a different, much more extreme stance (i.e. a strawman).

It would only have some worth for the topic if it was shown what the rocket fire actually does to a target(!) in this case men in forts6 (what ever is represented in reality by the "6"). Even not some practise targets are to be seen in the vid showered by these rockets. [:(]

I included the specific reference to the footage (as opposed to say, the narrative, or the views presented) because that was the relevant primary source material in the video.

For the sake of transparency, I was aware of Felton's detractors before posting the video (having read the same Reddit thread that Evoken did) which was part of my reasoning for directing people to focus on the footage specifically.

I make no judgement myself on Felton. I've not engaged enough with his material to have an informed opinion (and I'd likely take his published works as a benchmark than YouTube shorts) but I'm sure you'd understand if I'd like something with a little more academic credentials than a random individual on Reddit.

As for the impressiveness of so called "china cracker fireworks", the USN seemed to take a different view.

JUST FOR INFO/FUN, not for "realism" in game.

Vid with BM21 launchers, looks impressive. One certainly would NOT be on the target area... those system are mobile which makes sense look the large dust/smoke cloud easy target for counter battery:

as the enemy turned his Armada around after cancelling the invasion of the Mariana's we have our subs hunting down the damaged Essex CV when I-58 engages one of the main carrier groups but missed CVL Cabot with a full spread of six torps... lots and lots of depth charges dropped in return but I-58 survives in a moderately damaged state after a hit and 13 near misses...

with the subs being the only asset available to hurt the enemy fleet it's I-5 that engages a slow CVE but all torps miss the escort carrier... damn lucky bugger... in return our sub suffers as she is attacked by two DEs which again prove way deadlier than the DDs... after being hit by depth charges the sub has to surface and is sunk...

the air losses list confirms what isn't needed to be confirmed, CV Bunker Hill was sunk by sub attacks...

means the trip towards the Marianas has cost the USN an Essex class CV and a total of 300 carrier based aircraft when the operation was aborted and the enemy Armada heading towards Hawaii... it has cost us a dozen fighters and four subs...

I'd immediately take such a result any time but losing three subs today for a CVL and a CVE being missed angers me a little but the whole operation again convinces me that keeping the subs back and mass use them in one "decisive" battle after another is the right strategy (in the game)... losing three subs for one succesful attack on an escorted freighter sure isn't worth it...

Yeah, the allied end-war ASW bonus (the under-the-hood one) is really deadly to the IJ subs. I think you've come up with as good a way to use them as any .... they are going to die, if you can pick off some stragglers, that's pretty good in my book.

the subs have accounted for at least 6-8 CV/CVL/CVE in this campaign. Without their attacks these carriers would not have been sunk

Mundy does a night bombing low level tactical attack on Darwin's level 8 airfield... quite surprising to me because I know he is thinking the same about tactical night attacks in the game as I do... the result? The usual nuke from these attacks of course as the B-29 and their huge payload is enough to totally knock out the airbase... a level 8 airbase in one go, destroying 50% of the aircraft there and damaging 30% of the rest... got five AA units there, they do nothing... some B-29 hit balloons but the end result of this attack is devastating and he only loses 4 bombers attacking at over 20 hexes range...

like I've said, we both got the same oppinion on night bombing in the game so I wonder if this is the start of a tactical night bombing campaign which I don't hope because if it is I will retaliate it with some fency other stuff one can do at night in the game...

Thanks for the updates, and congratulations on another confirmed carrier kill. It's not unreasonable to assume Mundy's B-29 night raid has its roots somewhere in the frustration he must be feeling with his progress. Regardless, goodwill between opponents is essential, and I hope the situation is resolved to mutual satisfaction.

More emphatically, I sincerely hope that the next time a reader feels the need to discuss a topic in detail or engage at length with another poster, they will exercise the common courtesy of doing so in a different thread.

And I come back to this form to find an endless argument that has torpedoed any sympathy I've ever had with Mind_messing.

I won't even question the air combat that happened at the start of 1945 at the Marianas... Speaking of 1945 you should change this AAR title to AAR 1945 instead of AAR 1944.

Now to mention the earlier talk about late PBEM games that went to 1946... or how they are so rare.
I've so far seen only 3 of them. Although 2 of them were just a summery of what happened during the war after the (the same, believe or not) player stopped posting monthly updates on the AARs.

You get to see the aftermath of what 4.4 years of warfare and destruction in the Pacific grand campaign really looks like.

No combat report but the operational report as I wanna show you the sub spottings as I have done earlier... now the difference in the last days/weeks is the fact that the USN gotta be running low on subs and their numbers have drastically decreased within our shipping lanes that are covered by air ASW/nav search... and that means that our op losses of bombers/float planes on nav search have also gone drastically down, now around 1-2 a day from 7-10 a day...

over 170 enemy subs have been reported sunk so were are most likely somewhere around 150 actually sunk and this has cost us at least 3,000 aircraft lost to ops... so in total it's a 1:2 loss in victory points but it also meant that the enemy subs were mostly ineffective as we haven't lost a single major warship to subs, their best hits were a torp on a CVL twice...
