At Hoenfels, a M1 tank drove into a mud puddle. When the water quit rising, the water was halfway to filling up the turret. I wonder if that was the tank that was DXed later . . .
Another M1 slid on a trail on a hill. It took three days to fix it. Two M88s tried to pull it uphill and failed. The cut down a tree and lowered it. I told the 1st Sergeant that should have done that first and he agreed. It could have been fixed a day earlier when they put on a new track adjuster but a 1.5 cent grease fitting was missing . . .
Earlier at Graf, a M1 tank driving up to a firing position got the barrel into the dirt. The TC (a SSG) asked either the loader or the gunner to check the tube. "There's a little dirt in there but we can blow it out." Two feet of packed dirt, a 105mm steel orchid, and the driver came over the radio yelling "BATTLE FREEZE, BATTLE FREEZE!" The crew inside the turret was lucky that the breach held . . .

That platform is unstable, it should have a minimum of three legs.
But oh well, the sun is over the yardarm at 11am which is when the first of the grog ration was passed out in the Royal Navy.
