I used to work for Interactive Magic, who were due to publish Road to Moscow. I have a barely playable version of the game knocking around somewhere. I assume the game fell through the cracks when Interactive Magic moved from boxed game publishing into online games. A lot of titles were sold to Ubisoft, but I don't think Road to Moscow was one of them.

Can one of you show me on what you are talking about on divisional insignia? If it is what I think, that would be awesome, especially showing the SS unit insignias.
The screenshots in this BiN AAR should give you a good idea of divisional insignia counters in SSG games:

An SSG unit counter (on the map) is composed of: a drawing of men/equipment (for non-divisional units)/divisional insignia, a NATO symbol identifying the type of unit, NATO indicator of unit size and an indicator of whether a unit is in supply or not.

Interesting. Seeing that, my mind instantly responded with "too cluttered!" The terrain graphics really hit hard for me, muddying my ability to assess visually. WitE is cleaner, which I can appreciate.

I had high hopes for this design. I remember it went through several iterations, eventually settling on an online version that was in realtime. In the end, I believe the developer stated that the neural network code wasn't good enough for what he wanted. This really died a slow painful death.

It's mostly bocage terrain, that's why it looks "cluttered".

Hi!
Uploaded is a small part of a typical real German OKH- map that was widely used.
(Its the German 9th army and The Soviet positions-43)
Its easy to see some resemblence with the map in
"War in the East". I find that very inspiring. Very often
game maps are to fancy and totally unrealistic. Of course a map cant be
altogether realistic because of the need for some abstractions and game-help.

The University of Indiana (Bloomington) has a very nice collection of Soviet and German maps, both from the WWII era. Contact their Geography Library staff for info and cost.

One thing I noticed that I really like the sound of in your AAR was that there seemed to be 4 strats to use and every one of them had a pro and con to it. Some of the discussions, I could just see the generals having the same discussions and maybe even arguing with each other (until Hitler walked in, I bet).

RtM was dropped and is presumably dead. I still have (I think) the CD of the Alpha version I received for a review I did for the Gamesdomain site (and maybe Alpha is a generous word in this case). Possibly the game was too ambitious for the capabilities of computers back then, but it WAS an interesting project.

The main problem that one must always wrestle with is speed/time vs slower and careful. What i am seeing in some of these scenarios so far is that if you are 1-2 turns late getting to a certain spot the Russian Horde will block you out or cut you off. I am only playing against the AI. Against a Human i bet it is quite nasty.

It looks like a very interesting game and fairly realistic! I have not bought it yet but soon. It also looks like a once in a few generations game. If anything mabye even too detailed. lol
It may even pry me away from that other awesome game by Matrix, "War in Pacific Admiral Edition".

)
I will be more interested in the Grand Campaign though and bash those Russians all the way back to the Caucaus Mountains and the Urals. lol

I bought this game and am starting a PBEM as the ruskies. Sure to get wiped, but I will learn the game in the process.
As an aside, I am dissapointed that the entire paper manual is not offered. I would have paid more if it meant getting the whole manual!
Half a manual is like half pregnant!
