Turn 57

AGN: Crossing the river along the rail line was brutal. Almost all my energy was spent doing that.

AGC: The Reserve sits. OKH assault continues. If I was playing a person, I would be bracing for a counter attack at the base of the breakthrough. However, the Italians have arrived to prevent that!

AGS: More territory gained. Have I finally sprung the panzers free? The Hungarians follow as the Italians.

I am unhappy with the loss ratio. Very few SU units route now and most stand for at least one round of combat. I really hope I can do some serious encirclements others the winter will be worse that the blizzards of '41.

Turn 58

AGN: Continuing to take what is given. Gaining the river line is tough.

AGC, AGC: The screen shot is an overview of the current situation. I conducted 2 spoiling attacks in quiet sectors in the hopes of pinning any additional reserves. Both spoilers are within range of the panzer reserve; the north spoiler includes one panzer division and the southern one can be reached by rail. There are a lot of SU units. Again the loses favour the AI.

And the Italians cause the first surrender! An infantry corps. [:)]

I guess it isn't a bad thing to try to burn through the Italians - since you'll be loosing them in 1943 anyway, right?

Turn 59

All the assaults are continuing. Unfortunately all are now beginning to suffer a lack of troops. The flanks are stretched and held by weak infantry. The OKH infantry is almost exhausted and will need to be distributed amongst the various corps and refit. The armour corps are fairing a little better. In the south, I am very weak securing my flank as I finally make it to the Azov Sea. This assault rests with the Hungarian defence this turn.

If I cannot breakthrough with the panzers next turn, I may have to halt the offensive to rest thus allowing the AI to dig in again.

As was commented already, the SU forces have MILLIONS of infantry that I am having great difficulty shaking.

Here are 3 snaps of what I am facing for turn 60, 1st week of August. I really am uncertain what to do. I simply cannot get my armour behind the lines. I came close but was thwarted. The AI is playing very well.

In retrospec I see 4 items that have hamstrung me here.

1: AGS '41 assault was too slow developing.
2: I prepared for the first mud season and did not attack during those few winter turns. I might have reduced SU numbers with an extended offensive.
3: When the blizzards ended, all my panzer corps were is great shape, during the '42 winter turns Feb/May (?) I ought to have counter attacked immeadiately.
4: I left the SU to dig in too long in '42. Way too many fortifications.

Anyway, these are my thoughts atm. I am considering regrouping and moving to an offensive defence. I'll let ya know when I figure out what that is! [:D]

Turn 60

AGN: I made an abrupt change of direction. Target, the rail line due north. I have decide to send a reserve panzer corps and infantry corps to see this task complete.

AGC: A weak pocket has developed. The east flanking units are weak. Hopefully the AI will not push them too hard. The pocket is closed with ZOCs. Lets hope its enough.

AGS: Notice west of the Dnepr way south I moved two reserve panzer corps. The intent was to break out on the southern end in support of the main effort. However, it possible I may have unhinged the southern defence. Like AGC, the east flank is weak. Lets hope the AI does not push it.
