Tsuyung
I *thought* I’d stood down the entire horde of units here on the 2nd of April but I only stood down a single arty unit… The D_ATK dropped forts to 0 and Steve’s Chines lost another 86 squads destroyed to 1 for me. Steve also shows a negative for prep, exp, and supply. I’ve got plenty of supply so I’m pushing a shock attack this turn. I’ve got my armor back in the hex and MB are attacking a 6LCU stack SE of Tsuyung or attacking the defenders of Tsuyung base.

Burma
The 2nd RTA arrives @ Prome and is unpacking.

Operation Dragon Kite
The 3rd Army arrives @ Pisanuloke and is now unpacking

DEI
Operation Slinky has been discovered. What will Steve do? He has TB/DB/MB on naval attack. A few air groups had a go at Slinky but were driven off with the might of Slinky’s lethal anti-aircraft weaponry. Slinky will stay the course.

Singapore
Troops rest this turn. Supplies are good and the 53rd Division arrives this turn. AV @ Singapore = 2,863. Steve had a plus to leaders so I’ve bumped mine up. Something I don’t understand tho – I knocked his forts down to 2 but he gets a Forts(+)… Whatsa Forts+?
Next turn will be a D_ATK.

Mini KB
I’m moving Mini KB over to Babeldaob. I think I can spring it along the back end (west side) of Java and tap into some enemy shipping…

Tsuyung falls. Yippeee.

My FB killed a Fortress @ Tarakan.

So far I've identified 3 of the 8-stack near Tsuyung as Corps - the 42nd, the 4th, & the 76th.

Otherwise a slow turn.

I just got my replacement router from Verizon on Tuesday and had it up after a family dinner. I sent a movie and turn to Steve so we should be back to our normal schedule of turns.

TF is east of Alor and headed back to Truk. Not much happened here but the intent is to really start deploying my Cruisers/BB on missions to bump up the crew stats. Soft kills and bombardments have been doing good in this goal.

Operation Kabang with an S
TF is running up the Strait of Malacca to Bombard Sabang. I’m hoping to tap into enemy aircraft and small ships that have been there for over 30 days. Steve thinks this is a back-water. Time to show him different.

Singapore
The 4th Guards Division should arrive next turn. AV @ Singapore = 2,787 & supplies = 17,700tn. Bomber groups are rested and ready to play again. I’m gunna start dumping here @ Singapore again. My last D_ATK dropped forts down to 2 and I don’t want to give Steve time enough to bump the forts back up.

China
I’ve got troops marching in to Kienko so I can start on Chengtu.

I’ve got armored units moving to 74,42 to cut off supplies to troops along the road from Chengtu to NE of Tsuyung where Steve has a stack of 9 Corps sitting there.

Supply Question:
I want to draw supplies up to Tsuyung. I have supplies required bumped up to 9,293 but nothing seems to be coming up the roads/rail… I’m getting ready to deploy transports to fly in supplies but if I can get the supplies to come over the land routes it would be better.

Burma
The 2nd RTA is @ Prome and digging in. Steve has a Corps across the river. I’m pounding it a bit to use up supplies.

Toungoo has forts @ 2. My infantry & armored units that had been abused near Meiktila are near full strength. I want to get my supply situation good @ Tsuyung so I can hit Steve’s troops from two sides at once.



Playing with the Johnston
Steve attacked Johnston with fighters and SBD… My CAP did a good job in thrashing them. They were on a port attack. The only thing I have @ port is an ACM to service the mine field. I’m guessing he must be trying a pre-invasion attack but my search aircraft haven’t found it. Maybe it’s behind his carrier TF? That would be very un-Steve like… I’m deploying additional subs in the area from Kwajalein but they might be a few days too late.

Operation Easter Eggs
I’m running a few TFs to add or build up mine fields to some of my bases. Johnston is one of those bases due to receive eggs.

@ Johnston Steve's Carrier TF has disappeared. No invasion force either. I think he just came over to get his arse kicked and now he's leaving... [:D]

I'm taking another swing @ Singapore this turn. Hopefully I drop the forts down to 1 or 0.

Palembang gets a break for a turn or two.

All operations and movements in theatres are status quo other than Burma which is in the pic below. Seeing Steve push kind of surprises me tho as I figured he'd be very low on supplies...

I've got The supply route blocked to Steve's big stack by Tsuyun. A lot of movement through out China as troops are gearing for the push into Burma from China or headed for Chung king.

In Burma I'm running the last two units of the 21st that I need to form another Division to Toungoo. More AC are arriving in the theatre. I've got two Engineer units with strong aircraft support that should be at Rangoon in a few turns. That'll let me beef up my air power in the theatre and start running bombers over to counter Port Blair.

3 more divisions are en route to Singapore. I'm bombing the ever-loving piss out of that airfield.

Steve hit Johnston and this time I think he will try to take it. I have no recon in the area but I'll wager his invasion fleet is only a turn or two away...

I'm trying to move supplies up north so I can go after Chungking, Chengtu, and push hard west through Tsuyung and attack Paoshan. How do I pull supplies up - or am I forced to use air transport?

That's tough. I think you will need to fly supplies in until you can build the bases up a lot more. Even then, relying upon one secondary road will make it really hard to keep many ground units in supply.

Yup - my thoughts too. I'm in the process of setting up Hanoi & Haiphong with air support and supplies that I can transport up north. I wish I'd have realized the challenges of sending supplies to Tsuyang and Kunming earlier tho...

I'd say yes - I approach this differently. I find that deliberate attacks don't really do heavy damage when the odds are relatively equal (and if the odds are not relatively equal, it doesn't really matter what type of attack you order, since you're going to win (or lose) regardless.)

There are generally only two cases where I'll opt for a shock attack:

Case One: Attacking a known enemy stronghold (think Clark, Batavia, etc) with fort levels down to 1 or less. Obviously you need enough straight AV (and good quality AV) to think you can win (or you wouldn't order an attack at all), but if you have this then the multiplier for a shock attack may just get you odds slightly more favorable than you'd achieve with a deliberate attack, albeit at the expense of a few more casualties. It's a completely calculated attack, where excepting a really bad roll of the dice you still get at least a 1-1, so even if you don't outright win the battle your casualties aren't too horrific.

Case Two: The complete opposite of Case One [:)]. You don't know exactly what you are facing except what the mouse-over and your best guesses tell you. Enemy reinforcements will arrive in one or two turns, you feel that attacking now may be your best chance to achieve that breakthrough (or to prevent it) and you're willing to gamble. If it's a gamble, give yourself the best possible odds for success (which means utilizing the shock multiplier.) Very effective when you guess correctly. Very costly when you're wrong. That's why they call it gambling. Hope this at least gives you some food for thought.

On a side note, I've been reading (and enjoying) both sides of this one. While I happily play both sides, I tend to find myself more sympathetic to the underdog (Japan, usually) when it comes to AARs, so keep fighting the good fight, sir!

Case Two: The complete opposite of Case One [:)]. You don't know exactly what you are facing except what the mouse-over and your best guesses tell you. Enemy reinforcements will arrive in one or two turns, you feel that attacking now may be your best chance to achieve that breakthrough (or to prevent it) and you're willing to gamble. If it's a gamble, give yourself the best possible odds for success (which means utilizing the shock multiplier.) Very effective when you guess correctly. Very costly when you're wrong. That's why they call it gambling. Hope this at least gives you some food for thought.

I'm not much of a gambler on my ground units; it takes 4-ever to rebuild a division...

The deliberate attacks tell me what I'm up against. I'm not going to cause much damage against an even-stacked opponent - especially when it's in a city with forts. The deliberate attacks help me drop the fort levels down and I do the shock attack when I think my opponent's stack is in trouble.
