Nothing to share yet, but development is in progress - both design, programming and art is well underway. When we get a bit further along, we also plan to involve some community members at what will still be a very early stage to make sure the end result will make you all happy.

I never played Steel Panthers, should I get it now? or it is just too outdated, and there are better squad based turn based wargames?

Conceptually Steel Panthers has it all. Battle editor, all major/minor nations in ww2 and every piece of equipment and unit ever created all in one package

It's just the graphics. I can't get over how ugly the game looks and I do not want to spend $40 to play the same game with slightly higher resolution (The Enhanced Version at Shrapnel Games)

Start with the Tutorial scenario and manual (PDF file). If game goes over your head, at least it cost you nothing. Battle Academy series is about the same scale but gameplay is easier.

There's some patches with fixes for campaigns, new scenarios and a few other goodies.
They're in the same sub-forum as the D/L

re: The 4th patch - The Awesome Pack
Don't install the .shp files (Matts stuff) right yet, there is an issue or two with that.
the rest is good.

if you have a newer machine, like any of those multi-cores you'll have to use a small but incredibly useful program called DxWnd.
Ask here or the SPWaW sub-forum for help.

cheers

Tried downloading SPWaW 2016 and when I run it the menu screen is multi colored....looks like the game menu screen took a hit of acid :)

Yeah, bad acid that hurts your eyes.

If I had to guess I'd say you're running a Win7 box.
Confirm what you're running, and I'll help you with a work-around that will satisfy.

Sure I will, I played BA2 and I like it but too simplified for my taste, want something with more complex system under hood, I really like games like close combat, but I prefer it to be turn based.

In that case SPWAW, WinSPWW2, and WinSPMBT are what you seek. All are available for free. But if you pay for them, you'll get some extras. SPWAW - General's Edition has something called Mega Campaigns (look it up on this Matrix site) and WinSPWW2 & WinSPMBT (competitive titles from another publisher) offer higher resolutions.

What comes to SPWAW in Windows 7, attached file works for me. Unpack it into SPWAW directory and run it.

What it does:
It is text command file. It shuts off the Explorer ( = Windows user interface), starts the game, and restarts the Explorer when you quit the game.

zasgard Dxwnd fixes the color problems on Windows 7 as well as fixing the artillery screen issue. I suggest you grab the fix from here:
tm.asp?m=4060116

P.S. There are a lot of old fixes for the color problems on Win7. For exmaple one is a cmd file that closes explorer.exe. I would not recommend those.

The last time I tried it I got rid of the acid trip graphics, but it took forever to set up arty barrages. Riitaoja2, I'll give that fix a shot. Many thanks.

Cheers,

Any more news? Please [:D]
ORIGINAL: Erik Rutins

Hi guys,

The visuals will be very high quality. It will not look like Battle Academy, which had its own art style, it will look like a much better Steel Panthers.

We really can't say much more at this point, despite all the interest, but I'm glad to see that you are all interested!

Regards,

- Erik
