after our biplanes have hit the Japanese BBs off Java and further attacks by our subs the enemy had no other chance than to disband them at Balikpapan or have them most likely outright sunk... recon clearly indicated at least two IJN BBs at Balikpapan and it turned out it was Fuso and Hyuga...

Kendari's airfield can support heavy bombers and in rather bad weather the bombers still perform excellently and plaster the BBs with dozens of bombs, also hitting several other ships in port... I do understand why the BBs had to be disbanded there, what I don't understand is the lack of CAP over the base while I doubt that three dozen Zeroes would have stopped the bombers though...

it would be good to take notes on everything to know how many torps Hyuga took previously to estimate her chance to survive today's attack... Fuso took over 30x500lb bombs today and still isn't burning heavily nor showing heavy damage... one just needs 1000lb bombs to at least do some damage with non penetrating hits...

There are a few moves here last couple days I don't understand from your opponent

1. No CAP over Balikpapan: It would not have shot down all those 4E, but it would have disrupted the attacks and probably damaged enough of them that they would be stuck on the ground at Kendari for awhile where there is very little AV support.
2. Ships disbanded in Balikpapan: What are all those ships doing there? The BBs, maybe, but those TKs are toast....with heavy fires, they probably were full of fuel. A waste.
3. Not only is that a full division on Lunga (which doesn't make sense at this stage), it's a division that was restricted at-start....it was bought out to land on Lunga. That doesn't make sense on several levels.

Mundy seems like a really good guy and hate to criticise....I wonder if you need to find a more skilled opponent

It makes sense for him to go conservative right now having lost 2 CVs;

+1 on Mundy making a lot of mistakes in his priorities. He appears to have thought that the Allies were too weak to strike back during the first six months and you have disabused him of that notion. Losses of shipping and heavy cover is probably the reason he is starting to build his defensive perimeter.

I have seen 30 X 500 lb. bombs set unstoppable fires on a Japanese BB. But most of the bombs need to hit the deck, not bounce off the armoured side. Perhaps good die rolls and side armour hits are what keep Fuso from getting heavy fires. The system damage might still let those fires grow big.

Yeah guys, really no idea what Mundy is doing, there are certain things he's more or less serving me on a plate. Some horrible decisions being made but I'm sure he knows that too.

The Allied are weak, the only thing that makes them look stronger at the moment is the fact that I have completely built a Schwerpunkt and that's North of Darwin right into the soft belly of the Empire. Playing the Allied just shows me once more how strong the Japanese actually are in the game in so many aspects. Get your aircraft production running and you field so much stuff by April or May that you can sweep away any Allied opposition if you don't do it wrong.

The B-17s are a good example. I've lost more or less none so far, have roughly 90 operational on the map (all in one spot) and 15-20 in the pool. Now they are literally unstoppable at this point and we can do cool attacks like on the IJ CV/BB when they show up in port. But then I've used them a couple of days in a row against the same base just to find out on day three at least 30% need repairs due to their high service rating even against no opposition at all. At the same date as the Japanese I usually field 3-400 Sallies and those drop more bombs than the 90 B-17 and they can fly 24/7. Granted, they don't have the range and they are not unstoppable but one achieves way more with 400 Sallies than 90 B-17.

another strike during the afternoon as the enemy attacks a big tanker convoy that is picking up fuel for Northern Australia... one tanker is hit but isn't in sinking condition and will be patched up at Soerabaja's repair yard and the enemy losese more fighters and bombers...

this load of fuel (about 60,000 tons) is really needed as I'm absolutely struggling to have enough fuel in Australia for my fleet operations... not the enemy is limiting my operations at the moment but the lack of fuel... every available tanker being bigger than 8000 tons is tasked to ferry fuel to Australia...

1. I find sitting in a port hex, undisbanded (basically just sailing around) will get EXP up into the 50s, but generally not higher...is that what you find? Takes a bit of time.
2. To get higher, BOMBARDMENTS don't seem like they do much to add Night EXP, but they are easier to arrange usually than a successful night-fight. Is that your experience?

Yeah, sitting in a hex undisbanded raises both day and night experience, depending on the nation and ship types. For the USN it's either 50 or 55, I once knew it for sure but have forgotten again playing pretty much only the Japanese. But like you've said, it takes time, a loooong time. A single engagement can do that in one night if the ship survives. [:D] For me all ships with an experience of 55 are perfectly usable as night naval fighters, as long as they are in the 30s they won't hit much if anything.

I have never seen a bombardment raising experience even a single point. The movement to and from the target may do, just as moving from SF to Sydney does. But then again, it takes time, a horrible long time which I usually don't have. So I go and look for opportunities to raise it otherwhise. If that means running into a couple of IJN CAs at night it can quickly mean game over though as I see them as the biggest threat in a naval engagement at night, even if the Allied ships have radar.
