Hi all,
Oh my...
New York airport jets 'directed by child'
by BBC
US officials are investigating how a child was apparently allowed to direct planes at New York's JFK airport - one of the country's busiest.
The probe comes after an audiotape caught the boy directing several pilots preparing for take-off last month.
In one exchange, the boy is heard saying: "JetBlue 171 contact departure." The pilot responds: "Over to departure JetBlue 171, awesome job."
The boy was apparently with his father - a certified air traffic controller.
The adult is later heard saying with a laugh: "That's what you get, guys, when the kids are out of school."
In another exchange, the child says: "MS 4-0-3, contact departure," and then adds: "Adios, amigo."
The pilot responds: "Adios, amigo."
The pilots on the tape appear to be not concerned that a child is giving them instructions.
The incident happened on 17 February, when many New York pupils were on a week-long break.
The age and name of the child and the adult on the audiotape were not immediately known.
'Not indicative' incident
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement: "Pending the outcome of our investigation, the employees involved in this incident are not controlling air traffic.
"This behaviour is not acceptable and does not demonstrate the kind of professionalism expected from all FAA employees."
The agency did not give any further details.
The National Air Traffic Controllers Association said the incident was "not indicative of the highest professional standards that controllers set for themselves and exceed each and every day in the advancement of aviation safely".

Why? How do you guys train the next generation of controllers? [:)]

BTW, sailing is the fine art of getting more 24 pounders to bear on pitch-laden wood than the other guy. So don't be knockin Hornblower there, froggy. He whupped your arsy more than once. [:D]
My arse? Dude , my ancestors were Canadians on his side by that time! [:D]
Oh, I see. Daddy was a redcoat then, eh? Is that any better? [:'(]
Nope. Daddy was USAF (almost as bad). But the ancestor you speak of, call him grandad to the 9th power, lost his country. Then had a whole bunch of his relatives and friends hung for treason. That's what the new owners called it when some of the tennants objected to the real estate transaction. [:D] You basically had two choices , join the British forces.or hide in the woods. My ancestors , who had been mostly French soldiers , took up a new career path, that is "hiding in the woods". So for many generation my ancestors practiced this craft, knowing that to come out would mean that the British landlords would greet them give them a shilling and a new suit of red clothing , then ship them off somewhere where they would never be seen again.
One of my ancestors in the mid 1860's decided to beat this game. He would go south , and become an American. As he crossed the border , the officials were delighted to see him! They gave him a warm welcome, some money and a new suit of Blue clothing. When He asked if they were sending him oversea's to fight a nasty war, they said, "oh no, you'll stay right in the USA!" He said that doesn't sound too bad. "But your sending me to fight a nasty war?". "Oh no, we wouldn't do that to you! No we are sending you to fight a very pleasant war. It's even called a civil war. Very polite you see". My ancestor thought , if it's civil , that means polite in English , so how bad can it be? And they even said he could go somewhere warm for the winter. Some place warm called "Virginia". Maybe even "Georgia". Well , if they are named after girls , they must be nice places, right? [:D]
So that's how my ancestors came to the USA. FEDERAL express![:D]

Is there any other way for the government?
I don't work like that - ever. One more reason to want to get back to the real world of work.
C'mon, Sprior. I'm overstating the case for humorous purposes. Of course the vast majority of governmental workers are doing their jobs the best they can. We all do. It's like lawyer jokes-too rich an opportunity to pass by. No offense intended.
Obviously you've not spent much time in Washington DC good sir![:D]

Is this for real? I notice that guys at JPL usually know that theyre talking about. [X(]
They know that, with the impending death of the U.S. space program, they're going to get their pink slips any day now. This enterprising gent appears to have a plan. "Now, if I can convince 'em that we gotta develop rockets to nudge this sucker back into its proper wobble, maybe I can protect my phony-baloney make-work job for a couple more years."
But, seriously, folks. The length of a terrestrial day is determined by the rotational speed of the earth's aggregate mass. Any fluctuation in the time taken for a given point on the surface to return to its previous point of reference for "day length calculation" purposes would,
ipso facto, be identical to that for any other point. The only way to make an earth day shorter is to speed up the earth's rotation. This hockey puck doesn't say anything that makes sense.
And the only way to make an earth day longer is to go out, get hammered, pick up an embarrassingly stupid, ugly woman and marry her. Yer days will get REALLY long then.
Which raises the musical question, "What a difference a day makes. Twenty-four little hours."
But if they kill the space program, how are we going to build the U.S.S. Enterprise? [X(][&:]
They are not. In fact they are even getting rid of the CVN-65.

Actually , by its original use of the word, you both are yanks.Yankis, the Huron pronounciation of the French word Anglais. Anglais=Yankis=Yankee. That is to say English, not French. So there![:D]
How do you get Anglais=Yankis? Did they have a national speech impediment? [X(]
Some letters and sounds they couldn't make. Like a Japanese trying to say "TH" or "Lolapaloosa" or some r's. Or any one but a native Spanish speaker trying to do a "rolling r".

My cash reserves just increased by DKK50,000 (approx. $10,000). My mom called up and told me she put the money in a new bank account, and if I showed up at my bank and signed my name on a dotted line, it was mine.
I said "thank you" and "is there something you want to tell me?"
She's just fine; apparently she thought it was time for an advance on my inheritance. Who am I to argue?

Bah...I have no trouble with the Spanish rolling r using the front of the tongue. It's the German one with the back of the tongue that hellishly difficult to do while speaking.
