I agree with Umeu. All the players should start with the same number of points.

It's entirely your call Chris and thanks again for doing this for us.
FWIW I agree with the fresh start - everyone on the same points.

Lots of support for a fresh start. New year new start? It's probably a good idea. Let me know if there is any strong opposition to this before January 1.

So the new rankings take effect for games that are started in 2026 or finish in the new year?

The new ranking will be based on games that finish from January 1 2026. The first ranking table will be published on February 1.

Maybe crown the old stats with the Champ, Top 10, etc. Old stats was about 5 years of games.
2026 Annual begins.

HarrySmith (Allies) win against Neverquits99 ( Axis)
Axis resigned end of Jan 45 though all 3 majors still fighting. Axis was definitely on the defensive and holes appearing throughout their defenses. Axis had some great advances with Japan capturing Hawaii and Germany taking 2 Russian capitals but not managing to take the 3rd or all the southern oil fields. China was hanging on by a thread but Russia was coming through Manchuria. Some excellent battles but the Allies superior mmps started to make the difference. Great turn rates and a very good quality player where I thought the game could go either way. Personally I feel it is very hard to win as Axis these days against a good Allied player. The best option I feel is to play the Race to Victory version giving the Axis an opportunity to hold long enough before being overwhelmed. I would recommend neverquits 99 to anyone wanting a good competitive game.

Thunder lizard do you ever play axis?
I think this is quite an insightful question.
With evenly matched players the game favours the Allies IMO. The Axis have no chance against a better quality Allied player. Only the top players like Umeu, Taifun & Fafnir consistently win with Axis.
To make the new ELO ladder meaningful, I would ask / encourage players to play both sides equally. Otherwise you can just cherry pick your wins - and then what's the point?

4. If a player loses a game but lasts into 1946 or beyond they gain a small bonus (6 points against a higher ranked player, 5 points for an equal ranked player and 4 points against a lower ranked player).
maybe this one should be changed to reaching 1945 in case the scenario is race to victory? Since 1946 is beyond its end date.
