South China Sea: DS & The Herd proceed without opposition. D-Day at Samah, Hainan Island, tomorrow. Dave has a modest garrison there. The Allied force is enormous, 100% prepped, and covered by a 100%-prepped amphib force HQ. Unless the IJN intervenes successfully, the Allies should take the base the day after tomorrow. Two more objectives to follow, in short order.

Excellent choice. If you scroll up somewhere, you'll see I guessed Hainan for the "non-linear" target. Good luck!

Cheers,

Good call. [:)]

Originally, Hainan was considerably more "Non-Linear" than it turned out to be in the end. Circumstances led me to first invade Miri and Kota Bharu. Those were good calls, partly because they achieved important goals and partly because Dave went ahead and attack all-out, leading to bloody battles that were much closer to my home ports/shipyards and which, apparently, left KB gasping and unable to pounce (to this point) in the Hainan operation.

11/29/44 to 12/1/44

Invasion of Hainan Island: Against weak opposition, the Allied invasion of Hainan Island is quickly successful. Samah falls and a day later is a major Allied airfield. DS & The Herd are ready now for Target 2, Kwangchoan, which I believe is lightly held.

No sign of KB thus far.

Malaya: Allied army is moving south on good roads in good order. It should reach the outskirts of Singapore this month.

Burma: Except for a modest force at Rangoon, Dave pulled his army back. Allied units have taken vacant Moulmein and will continue to advance until enemy garrisons are encountered. The Allied units are very weak and couldn't punch through minor opposition, but they are quite capable of taking abandoned bases.

Invasion of Kwangchowan: As the new turn begins, an enemy ASW TF pummels a USN sub outside Hong Kong's busy harbor. And then havoc ensues. A meeting engagement occurs, as the massive Allied armada closes on the target...and Kaigun does too.

More later, after a brief pause for lunch. :)

I assume from there, the plan is to eventually open up an alternate supply route to the Chinese?

Simple question. Complicated answer.

Ideally, I'd rather the Chinese units get supply via Rangoon/Burma Road, which should be open in about a month. I'd prefer that any supply coming ashore at Kwangchowan (and any other coastal port taken) to fund only the Western Allied troops. Once the Western Allies and Chinese link up, supply will flow into the interior of China willy-nilly and migrate in the most maddening ways from where it's most needed and hardest to resupply. So I may avoid a link-up for awhile, until things stabilize and the LOC through the South China Sea is secure and really humming.

D-Day, Kwangchowan: The invasion TFs separate from DS and proceed to the target hex, with DS (and a bunch of empties to patrol a hex to the SE, with various small flanking TFs spread to the east, between the big boys and Hong Kong.

Kwangchowan: The pesky MTBs penetrate and mix it up with a big transport TF inbound to the beach.

Kwangchowan: A good USN CL TF stops a dangerous CL/DD TF cold...but runs out of ammo and retires from the meeting engagement hex. Uh oh, it was a key part of the defensive plan.

Kwangchowan: It's all confusion as the two sides collide. Enemy combat vessels and DS TFs are in the same hex. Here, an Allied combat TF dispatches one enemy combatant.

They were left with very high op point spent, while the allied squadron was very fresh, hence...

Kwangchowan: Here comes another nasty enemy combat TF. These DEs were set for Combat and meant to ward off MTBs. They're not up to this kind of opposition.
