Nik, buddy, it's good to hear from you, and great to see there is some forward movement in your life. Stay strong, Brother! [8D]
I second that !
Thx....trying too. I keep forgetting to eat these days so staying strong by 3pm gets to be a problem [:D]. On the bright side though....i've lost major poundage. Haven't admittedly looked this good in years. Divorce (or it's equivilent) can have some side benies.
lol....well that wasn't planned. new page. [:D]

30 days... And yes, I do have two years of benefits available, but it's almost unbearable to think of it taking that long to find something new.
2.5 months and counting here. I've had a couple of leads, but nothing has panned out yet. My requirements and definition of a "good" job are slowly dropping as it takes longer and longer.
I'm really upset that you two are out there having to look for jobs. I wish you both the very best.
Don't know if it's applicable in ya'lls cases, but I had to go through the same process after moving to Alabama. I'm registered in California, so I'm not allowed to practice law, here. Fortunately, my USPTO registration is national, so I can practice anywhere as an Agent. Registered my firm LLC in Alabama and offer professional services to individuals and consultant services to area law firms. Am very happy with consultancy. Time and scheduling is mine, and given all the other stuff I have going on, I like that.
Consulting looks really good on the resume. It means you are a professional and don't depend on some weenis corporation for lunch money. Also means you are so secure in your professional knowledge that you can afford to 'fly alone' (whether you can or can't, mox nix, it's the 'tude). Consulting also helps financially. You can bill out at a rate about twice what you would normally get (and be able to work about half as long) and your employers will be paying about half of what they would for an equally situated employee. Really good all around.
Nice thing about consulting is that the guys you consult for eventually want to take you on, formally. I have offers from two area firms to pay a month's hiatus while I take the Alabama bar and join their firm as Of Counsel.
Gosh, I really hope this is helpful to you guys. If there is anything I can do, anything at all, please shoot me an email.
Ciao. John
John, so you do Patent research ? Do you have a particular area you practice in ?

I always think it useful to keep in touch - and stay on the right side of - the in-laws. When your life is properly back on track and things start going for you again, its good to have a conduit through which such news can pass back to the ex - and if that news coincides with things not working out for her, well, so much the better!

My girlfriend is a fan
Wow, you must really like her a lot to go see Manilow.
Warspite1
Yeah, she's alright [;)]
To be honest I thought I would have received more abuse for attending a BM concert - perhaps the Thread brothers are secret BM followers? [:)]

One foot in front of the other.
And I probably should not say it, but I will, imo you are better off without her.

staff position at my volunteer gig
Tell you what, I love my volunteer gig I do here. It's very similar: refurbishing pc's for needy kids. Love it so much I bought myself an
iFixit toolkit so I could be more efficient.
The only bad thing is that the laptop stuff is mostly done on Wednesday's when I have choir. I'm still hunting around for other opportunities to do stuff like this. It's great fun. You meet fellow geeks and do something worthwhile.

Dang, I guess we're out of practice. [:D]
After my first marriage fell apart, I dropped about 20 pounds, bought a bowflex and started getting in shape, started doing triathlons, lost another 15 pounds down to 185, and really got in shape. [:)]
Now, I'm trying to get back to something close to that shape after 6 years, while remaining happily married. [:D]
