Summary of Operations 8/06/44
Southwest Pacific: Current status of Port Moresby base – 1.01 million supply and 96K fuel on hand.
Current status of Terapo base – 143K supply and 4200 fuel on hand.
Summary of this game turn’s reported aircraft losses over all locations in New Guinea plus Rabaul.
No Japanese planes reported destroyed
Allied planes reported destroyed
• 1 P-38H Lightning (ops)
A small reduction in the Allied bomber force operating over New Guinea due to availability of (replacement pool) 2E bomber planes for Dutch squadrons within the RAAF (Australian air forces). Two Dutch 2E squadrons have been operating from NE Australia against targets in New Guinea, both units equipped with Mitchell II aircraft. With the Mitchell II no longer in production and replacement pool planes for this type exhausted, supplies of Dutch 2E bomber planes are no longer sufficient to support two Dutch squadrons. On closer examination, only one of the two Dutch air units can upgrade to the new Mitchell III bomber now in production, plane upgrade path of the second Dutch squadron goes toward fighter aircraft (Kittyhawk IV to P-51D). Plans now underway to remove one of the RAAF Dutch 2E squadrons from front-line operations and convert to a fighter unit (Mitchell II to Kittyhawk IV planes). The new Dutch RAAF fighter air unit will go into eventual service in a rear-area CAP role. Dutch replacement pilots are available in ample numbers with some pilots already fully trained for fighter duty (experience > 65, Air and Straf skill levels both 70+). This action also extends useful operational lifespan of the Mitchell II bomber once the second Dutch squadron is converted to fighters.
AAR’s of latest Allied fighter sweeps and daylight port bombing raids on Buna follow.

Summary of Operations 8/08/44
Southwest Pacific: Current status of Port Moresby base – 1.03 million supply and 102K fuel on hand (no change).
Current status of Terapo base – 144K supply and 4100 fuel on hand.
Summary of this game turn’s reported aircraft losses over all locations in New Guinea plus Rabaul.
Japanese planes reported destroyed
• 10 Ki-84 Frank (9 air-to-air, 1 ops)
• 2 J2M3 Jack (1 air-to-air, 1 ops)
• 43 N1K1-J George (40 air-to-air, 3 ops)
Allied planes reported destroyed
• 10 P-47 Thunderbolt (8 air-to-air, 2 ops)
• 13 P-38J Lightning (12 air-to-air, 1 ops)
An unreported air-to-air combat engagement involving two P-38 Lightning squadrons launched on a sweep mission over Wau base hex occurred – no AAR or combat replay of this action, no references in other 8/08 game turn reports. The P-38 sweep was launched from Horn Is using drop tanks. All P-38 plane losses recorded in only one of the two air units ordered into this action, it appears the second P-38 squadron also launched but may not have engaged in combat or did so unscathed. No information available as to Japanese CAP fighter losses in the sweep action(s) over Wau although these Jap losses may be included in the game turn totals above.
USAAF fighters continue sweep attacks over Lae. Latest AAR’s follow.

Summary of Operations 8/09/44 (continued)
Australia: Two convoys reach Australia this game turn.
Transport convoy WX-11 (24 ships) arrives from US West Coast. Cargo aboard the convoy includes US 81st Infantry Division, 56K supply and 79K fuel.
Transport convoy EX-77 (10 ships) arrives from Eastern US via Capetown, cargo includes 56K supply and 1800 fuel.
Burma: Detected status of Jap base in Rangoon – 82 aircraft (all fighters), no Jap TF, 15 Jap LCU, manpower 4(0), resources 21(0), refinery 72(129), light industry 9(32).
India: Elements of Japanese infantry LCU entered dot hex base along main railroad line extending from interior of India to Dacca and Chittagong (possible airborne assault), the Jap LCU encountering Allied engineer units recently dispatched into Silchar to begin airfield construction. The action also stopped strategic movement (RR) of two Allied combat LCU (7th Indian Division, 268 Motorized Brigade) in the adjacent rail hex N of Silchar, these units now deploying into combat mode at this hex location. My current estimate of this action is that it likely represents a reconnaissance Pillager may be launching into border areas of NE India and/or an action to disrupt use of the rail line to Dacca/Chittagong from the "mainland" area of India rather than being the lead element of a Japanese ground offensive from Burma into NE India (though this possibility remains not impossible). It should be noted the TOE of Jap 1 Raiding Rgt contains parachute infantry elements and the action below is likely an airborne assault into Silchar dot base hex – especially given no Jap LCU were detected in adjacent hexes to Silchar prior to this game turn’s action. Known location of Jap 1 Raiding Rgt from available intel data is at Magwe (8 hex range from Silchar, within likely flight range of Jap transport planes). AAR follows.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Silchar (59,39)
Japanese Shock attack
Attacking force 115 troops, 1 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 8
Defending force 2618 troops, 0 guns, 128 vehicles, Assault Value = 5

Summary of Operations 8/10/44 (continued)
Australia: Transport convoy EX-78 (25 ships) arrives from Eastern US via Capetown, cargo includes 146K supply and 2500 fuel.
Burma: Detected status of Jap base in Rangoon – 84 aircraft (all fighters), no Jap TF, 15 Jap LCU, manpower 4(0), resources 21(0), refinery 72(129), light industry 9(32).
India: Para infantry elements of Jap 1 Raiding Rgt continue attacking at Silchar. Allied combat units (7th Indian Division, 268 Motorized Brigade) in the adjacent rail hex N of Silchar still deploying into combat mode from strategic movement – this due to complete next game turn, the units to begin movement into Silchar base hex in preparation for counterattack.
Breaking of the rail line to Dacca and Chittagong from “mainland” area of India is more an inconvenience than an emergency given parameters of the current Allied situation in NE India area. Chittagong base is already expanded to maximum airfield and port sizes – garrison at Chittagong includes III Indian Corps (two infantry divisions, two brigades plus supporting arms) with air support and 615K supply on hand. Parts of XXIII Indian Corps (11th East Indian Division plus supporting arms) occupy Dacca base with 40K supply. The two Allied LCU outside Silchar (7 Indian Division, 268 Brigade) had been enroute to Dacca to fill out XXIII Indian Corps OOB. Additional Allied combat LCU are moving via strategic rail movement toward the Silchar area from rear-area locations in “mainland” India, these units also enroute to previously planned forward locations.
Still… there’s little question restoring use of the rail line to Dacca/Chittagong will require ground combat action to evict or eliminate Jap paras now in Silchar. Latest AAR follows.

Ground combat at Silchar (59,39)

Summary of Operations 8/11/44 (continued)
Central Pacific: Sigint entry for 8/11 reports intercepted Jap radio signals from Truk. Detected base status at Truk shows no visible Japanese forces or activity.
Burma: Detected status of Jap base in Rangoon – 83 aircraft (all fighters), no Jap TF, 11 Jap LCU (-4 from last report), manpower 4(0), resources 21(0), refinery 72(129), light industry 9(32).
Detected status of Jap base in Magwe – 155 aircraft (149 fighters), oil production 188(113), refinery 96(5), 24 Jap LCU. Pillager appears to be resuming repair of oil production facilities in Magwe.
India: Para infantry elements of Jap 1 Raiding Rgt attacked again at Silchar, defending Allied units reinforced by arrival of 11th Indian Division which had been moving forward via rail from “mainland” India. Japanese paras in Silchar appear to have been eliminated in this game turn’s ground combat action.
A second group of para infantry elements from Jap 1 Raiding Rgt appeared in the dot hex base at Kalemyo (hex location 59, 42) along the India-Burma border and captured the base unopposed as no Allied ground force was present. Results of the action at Kalemyo vs the end result at Silchar demonstrate the value of even a minimal garrison in stopping small attacks – including construction engineers if present in sufficient numbers.
My most likely estimate is that Pillager may have taken Kalemyo for use as an outpost position (early warning of Allied ground advance from India). The Jap attack on Silchar may have been intended for either/both of two purposes – (1) cutting the rail line to disrupt line of supply and strategic rail movement of Allied LCU, (2) a probing attack to detect and identify build up activity of Allied ground forces along the India-Burma border area. If my estimate is true, Pillager accomplished much of the objectives although he failed to cut the rail line for more than a brief time (2-3 days). AAR’s follow.
