SAIPAN IS INVADED!!!

CENTRAL PACFIC: This comes as no surprise after the last few turns, but of course it's hugely important. Jocke's main invasion forces shake off attempts by my MTBs, subs and midget subs to get to them, and manage to start unloading during the night phase. A BB bombardment precedes the landings, with Idaho taking 12 hits from the shore guns and being left on fire. This caused almost no damage to the troops or the base.
Then the heavily protected landings arrived and the BBs did well to shepherd the charges, but took a pounding too. Arizona took 21 hits alone, then later taking 9 more and showing and 'on fire' message. Most bounced but some destroyed guns and stuff up top. CL Leander took 8 hits and those were more meaningful, as were the 10 on the Hobart in the other invasion TF. The Maryland is the winner though with 42 hits taken and an 'on fire' message. Then the LCI (G) ships moved in and suppressed our troops' fire, getting the men to the beach relatively safely.
I hope the fires do something to the BBs and their system damage and destroyed devices rockets up. We'll see.
In the day phase multiple sweeps go over and the Helldivers are still set to dive, which perhaps was not so prudent. He didn't get hurt too badly there, mostly due to the fact that my AA is larger guns and the base forces haven't yet gotten their 20mm and 25 mm upgrades. To bad. Anyway, he did lose some 12-15 more Navy strike planes in a completely ineffective bombing run. This is good, as neither the shore bombardment or aerial bombardment does much to our troops. It could take a bit longer here if this trend continues.
On the day he landed about 1900 AV including four full divisions and several tank battalions. I sure do wish we'd adopted stacking limits in this game! All in al though this was an amazing replay to watch, and the power of the Allied machine is impressive. The Japanese defenses were equally tough and really dished it out as well. My other bases don't' have quite the CD power as Saipan, but they have some still and potentially damaging two BBs now is good news for the rest of the islands here, but we'll worry about this one first. Flying anything in here is likely impossible, but we'll see once the Allied fleet decides it's had enough sub dodging for one week. [:)]

SUBS: The Chiburi, Kusagaki and Etorofu force another sub, the Dorado, to surface where it is finished off by the Chiburi.
In the Marianas I lose I-41 to a DE TF, also forcing the sub to the surface. The I-9 takes heavy damage but should make it back to the repair yard. The I-45 slips into one of the CV TFs but is sighted before getting a shot off. Damn! All other subs are circling in and should be involved next turn if his fleets are still hanging out.
North of Luzon the Guardfish hits AV CAnberra Maru with one TT, but she has only 43 flood damage and should be able to steam back to the HI barring other sub encounters.
One of my midget subs, the Ha-59, hits xAP Kota Inten with one TT at Tinian!! Nice shootin! I guess against 40 ship TFs it's easier to sneak around unnoticed. [:)]
At Lomblen at least three Allied subs skirted both their own and our mines to attack our SAGs, hitting nothing. Our lone ASW DD hit and forced another surfacing, gunning the Muskalunge under. Then the Escolar was given 15 hits including two direct.

S/SW PAC: no more glory down here, but no reprisals either at Rabaul. I noticed a beefed up Milne Bay CAP was added. [:)]

NORTH PACIFIC: Cold Bay wil be nearly vacant in a few days, and then I'll start working my way back through to Adak, clearing out all troops and sending them back to the Kuriles, leaving just a token force on each base so that if he lands he still might get the winter disruption.

S DEI: So this was interesting. Exactly 100 B-29s dropped aerial mines at Lomblen where my three SAGs are patrolling. This could be difficult. How many mines is that exactly? Seems like it could be a LOT! [X(]
None of my ships hit any mines today, and I'll not touch their patrol settings until the two AMs from Soerabaja make it here. I have an AMc at Koepang but just realized it's out of fuel. [8|] Bad timing. I'll try to send it here anyway, but not sure that'll work so well. This will be nerve-wracking for a few days. To top it off subs came into the hex (!!!) braving both our and Allied mines to attack our light cruisers to no effect other getting one of the prowlers sunk one and heavily crippling another.

BURMA: The troops recovered to over 6k AV, and more supply is flowing in. [8D]
