Personally, I want my troops to mutiny when I become to much of an uncaring slave driver.

If they are too pooped to march I expect them to say "stuff it" and rest.

I guess I am in the minority though.

I'd get the so-called "watch-dogs" (german field gendarmes) and court-martial each and everyone in my Coys, in case they should ever try to mutiny. lol

I supposed there's no point in crossing my fingers and hoping the patch will be out today so I can play those air drop scenarios this weekend while the spouse is away? [;)]

I would like to see my troops shut down as well.

I would like to see disciplined and crack troops be able to "plow through" longer. But pay penalties for this. You know. If you were up three nights in a row, you would be doing EVERYTHING like crud on day four. Reaction times down. Everything.

Only seasoned, well trained, crack troops would have the self discipline to pull this crap off.

[;)]

My three cents.

I would also rather see the troops take a nap along the way, but *not* in the completely open terrain as it always happens (at least to me) right now.

Since this thread is on patch2...

Arjuna, can you confirm that once the FJ get their supplies their fatigue recovery will be immensely improved? I have been testing the Judge Dredd scenario (it's a blast!!) and one the FJ coy with rest orders and totally away from the frey took 1 full day to go from 88% down to 78% fatigue.
Also, still on the subject: is the recovery logarithmic? i.e. it takes forever to go from 90% to 89% and no time from 20% to 1%?

Cheers,

RedDevil

I can confirm it for you.

I only got the new test debug version of the next patch running a couple of days ago and prior to that I started a thread in the development forum over concerns about fatigue recovery in a prior game of version 137. I had ordered three of the four batallions of the Sturm regiment to rest for 35 hours straight in the Maleme Historical scenario and they hardly recovered any fatigue at all over that long duration. Arjuna pointed out that it was likely due to the lack of basic supplies.

I restarted the scenario in the coming patch version (138) and have seen significant fatigue reduction from only 6 hours rest. The patch has also fixed the supply problem for basics and artillery ammo for airborne and airlanded units.

Re Progress with Patch 2. I have spent a long week working on the Moving in Formation code. This all stemmed from those cases where the HQ leads the charge. This was like delving into the bowels of the AI code base. The two files in question ( dealing with force formations and route finding ) are each over 5000 lines of code and they are terribly intertwined. There was a lot of code hacks throughout added at various times by Paul and myself to bring about certain effects. Like any complex system that is hacked and rehacked over time, it had become quite a mess to unravel.

But unravel it I have. In fact I pruned it right back to bare bones and cleaned up a lot of anomolies. I won't bore you with the gritty details. Suffice to say that units now maintain their formational shape and so far I have not seen any HQs leading the charge. Autotesting overnight has produced some bugs that I'll attend to on Monday. Then I'll release another developer build for the beta testers. If this passes muster we'll do an installer test and release the patch. So we'll aim for the end of next week.

Interesting theory! I have no idea if you are right or wrong. I can say when I was in charge of Data Warehousing at a major global bank, there was an official policy across the entire bank of no system updates during December.

This is from PTO, but... While reading "The Rising Sun" by John Toland, found the description of Japanese forced march on Guadalcanal, where they had to abandon a big portion of heavy guns due to fatigue and rough terrain. Hence, would it be possible to make a choice in COTA to force a fatigued march in cost of portion of equipment?

Excellent idea!
Maybe in conjunction with type of terrain (let's say muddy terrain in Russia, unfriendly terrain in North Africa) AND fatigue.

No worries, fixing that part will be appreciated as well.

Thanks for the hard work on the HQ code Arjuna. I am sure it will be worth the wait!

Hi all,

A new beta build ( 3.2.139 ) is going out for testing now.

Great news.

The sooner the patch is released, the sooner the community can start inundating you with BFTB screenshots, development updates, release dates, et cetera. You know the drill.

Ahh, the challenging, arduous and thankless lot that falls on the shoulders of our poor overworked developer. [;)]

I don't mind the "overworked" bit so much. It's the "poor" bit that worries me.

Here's a snap from the autotester showing the Italian's conducting a massive attack in line. Not the maintenance of the formation in each of the assault groups and the position of the HQs, thanks to the new moving in formation code. [:)]

Neat stuff!

Careful though... if you make the Italians too good, people will question the historical accuracy of the game [;)]

No offense intended to our Italian brethren.

Easy for you to say. You're not the one who had to delve "into the bowels of the AI code base." [:D]
