Looking at the casualty report from the big battle, the loosing side (CSA) didn't gain any experience.
Is this a general rule - that the losing side in a battle doesn't gain any experience?

not sure, I was planning on double checking, but I do see the Bdes I have been fighting were 2 morale at start and some are in the 6s now, so think they are improving

Cav at 8 morale, are nasty

well, I maulled Yells on the way out, but Cleberne Rallied the other Bde and I don't know where it is at, so I got a Lurker running around, out of sight, besides this Dang Injun that won't stand still

Hellack ever brings that gun up, that will teach them

Schofields pretty much lost control of the 1st Ill Cav, my Injuns ran wild, but over all did there job, of course, I could use them now

a good HARD won fight, them CSA Indians were tuff, but those kinds of losses can not be taken

I move the 2nd NY Corps down into the side of Fredericksburg, no reaction, so I then move it into Lynchburg, along with the AOP Meade, next turn, I stormed the walls, which the ANV had move over to take back the area I had just left, but called on for help

I drove them out of Lunchburg, and got there nose bloody, with out takeing too much blood myself for my new commands, the ANV retreats into Richmond

I then Move AOP Ward down into the side of Fredericksburg and move AOP Morgan into Fredericksburg, and wait to see what happens

I had also moved AOW Grant to go after a CSA Div in Ark, that move to take the province I had gained a few months back, the 2 Divs in Tenn-Miss-River, moved into Ark north, Lee and his two Divs moved back into Knottville, the ANV moved into Fredericksburg

the call for the 2nd NY Corps is sent, and also another call was sent to the AOP Meade

just as the first troopers from the 2nd NY Corps form into Ranks from getting off the train (nice place for a RR Station, I must say) the CSA begins the attack on my line

gee, did I mention, that there are tons of CSA troopers out there !

(I hope I remembered to arm these slugs, the last time I moved the AOP, they didn't have any weapons

this is going to be fun, or, it is going to be very short

the first wave was really just a Garrison troop that came too close, haha, about 3 vollies and they decide they got someplace better to be

still got the smile on my face, when I see the 1st Cav come riding out of the dark, ohoh, that does not look good, then the 2nd, and then the 3rd, and behind the Cav, the Inf starts to appear

where are them Yorkers when you need them ????

I new I could turn my flank, if I turn the last unit, it can't from into line, and if it turns, it is just going to get hit in the flank anyway, so it is bait, it is also my 2nd worse unit in this AOP, so...

the Beast gets a good volly into the flank of the unit that got to close to them, and does good damage, the weak sister is pounded and routed, and breaks and runs

More CSA Cav show up, the AI handles Cav pretty good for some reason, but, it is a sucker for Wagons, it could of hit my NY Snipers rushing forward or turned into the rear of my line, it went for the wagons instead

which means my 2 Snipers will/should be able to form and now march to the front, instead of running

I really need a flank up there, it looks like a Swarm of ants

too many Muskets !, I do not have much range and it seems like the CSA knows it, it hangs back and fires and closes in on the flank

I need more trains

I started with 4 wagons, 2 I had move forward to my line, the other two moved back towards the train, they will suppy the new troops as they get off, a gamble, as I do not think my line is going to stay supplied much longer

the beast never stood a chance, and is shot down in place

more Cav and more Inf are closing the gap, the flank is swarmmed, the pouring around the flank now

the Troops on both sides are getting slaughtered, but the line holds

Great updates, HS.  I am enjoying them.  Getting really excited about the patch.

Nice battle scene in the thread above. You can almost smell the gunpowder.[X(] The new patch looks great so far.

Very nice, I like the new screens. 

Agreed the new screens are a great improvement but I would prefer to have an option to limit the after battle report details of the opposing side. Whilst combat would firm up a lot of information a Civil War commander would not know the exact enemy losses for each unit engaged nor each enemy unit and its type in action. Information would be approximate and usually incomplete.

The difficulty in exactly calculating enemy casualties would apply in most engagements, whereas problems in identifying all enemy units (brigade size) are most likely in medium to large scale actions. Surrendered units would provide a lot more information but its the information for still active units that is the issue here.

These are interesting points. I wonder if it would be possible to have an option for estimated enemy figures and unit ids?
