Ruthlessly attack his 4x+ airfields and go after those 4E birds on the ground. They are his favorite toys. He recently spanked 3 flattops in the Canton Island region which will keep my repair yards busy for months. Bastard snuck in the 8th Aif Force onto the Island ....[:@]

Pound him good, he needs to be humbled ever now and then.

The CL Hobert is confirmed sunk. This was one of the support units of Carl's Carrier TF that I spanked in the Straight near Balikpapin. So the BC Australia, the CV Ark Royal, and now the Hobert all eat it - not to bad for CarDiv3.

The pounding of Hengchow continues as I try to close down that airfield. 26 Tojoes escorted 47 Lily LBs into the teeth of 16 KittyHawks & 3 Lancers. I lost 2 Lilys vs 2 Kitties and a Lancer plus I put in 44 runway hits from 9k - sweet.

I swept Chengsha but Carl has pulled his fighters from LRCAP.

Carl pounded Rangoon w/26 Wellingtons and put 8 holes in my runway from 15k. I'm still pushing ENG units to Rangoon and Moulmein so I can establish air coverage.

10 Liz LBs punched thru 6 Aircobras flying cap over Palembang. No losses but not hits on the Air Base either...

The Sasebo 3rd SNLF in route to Pontainak from Singkawang were rained on from 16 Matin 139s our of Batavia - 36 casualties reported.

14 Nates flying cap over Changsha bounced some kitties running cover for a few SB-2c LBs out of Hengchow (with the 44 holes in the runway) and did just enough to stop the attack on my LCUs. I lost a Nate out of that but that's the price I gotta pay...

9 Blenheim from Chungking hit Changsha right afterwards but my Nates chased them home too.

17 Nates escorted 21 Sallys and 14 Lilys from Amoy to Chengsha to pound enemy LCUs. It must have been cloudy 'cause they didn't hit a damned thing.

My invasion TF from Tarakan, while running back to Manila, was visited by an assortment of 9 LBs based out of Balikpapan. They missed @ 6k. Happy-happy merchies keep watching the skies - just in case...

A Nell reports a hit on the SS Trout - I sure hope so. I hate Carl's subs.

66 Kates from CarDiv3 hit Cagayan for some target practice and make nice holes in the runway. I hope their experience goes up <grin>

3 more Hudson out of Balikpapin go after my running merchies. Fortunately my merchies saw them coming and took evasive action resulting in no hits (my story - I'll tell it my way <grin>).

So I get in a bombardment @ Chengsha with no retaliation (I guess Carl put his troops to bed early) while his New Chinese Corp bombarded an armored unit I have guarding the back road to Hanoi - I don't think they even scratched paint.




What a mess. 7 enemy units guarding the crossing near Kaifeng. And 52 units @ Chengsha which probably means about 15 divisions of Chinese. There are 14 units in that bunch SW of Ichang and 6 more to the NW.

Night

Mines @ Hong Kong are cleared up by PGs – another present from Carl’s subs.

RO-66 goes after the TK Iris @ Palembang. She misses with a torpedo which pisses off the CO. R0-66 surfaces and puts 3 shells into the tanker and leaves her in flames.

The S-36 comes into Davao after my CarDiv3 but runs into my escorts and takes a depth charge in shallow water. Probably popped a rivet somewhere…

SS Grayling goes after my AP Awajisan that is limping towards Manila. A dud torpedo clunks against the hull and my AP lives to run away into the night.

Mines are discovered at Saigon and effectively dispatched by MSWs. Carl is like the sub-man from hell.

26 Tojoes escort 50 Lilys to Hengchow. Carl throws up 11 Kitties and 1 Lancer. So I kill 1 kitty and Carl nails 4 of my Lilys and 2 Tojoes. What a crock. My bombers claim 4 hits to the Airbase, 6 hits to air supply, and 36 holes in the runway.

24 Wellingtons hit Rangoon again. They miss everything but a single water buffalo standing in the middle of a field. Guess what my troops are having for supper 2night?

3 Liz LBs fly over Palembang against 11 P39-D fighters and two come home. No ice cream…

10 Martin go after my Akaiei SNLF (marching along with the Sasebo SNLF from Singkawang to Pontianak but my troops disperse into the jungle – no casualties. Maybe they learned something from the Sasebo unit? U know that’s not true <grin>.

8 Kittyhawks and 6 SB-2c go after my LCUs again @ Changsha. 17 Nates are there to play tag. I lose a Nate but my LCUs report only 6 casualties.

15 Blenheim follow on the heels of the SB-2c LBs and drop steel rain on my 110th Div which takes 9 casualties.

So I go after his LCUs with 32 Lilys and 18 Sallys and put 8 casualties on his 39th INF Div. How do you confirm 8 casualties @ 10k? <grin>

19 Blenheim and 14 Wirraway from Mandalay go after my 55th C/Div near Meiktila and I eat it with 42 casualties, 3 guns, and a vehicle nicked.

19 of my Bettys come in low @ Palembang and get after the AK Lematang and feed her three torpedoes. She’s going down for sure…

4-12-42 Orders

CarDiv 3 @ Davao – MOV 2 Takao. CarDiv 3 is a pretty little TF w/CV Soryu#, CVEs Hosho, Taiyo, and CVLs Junho, Unho, Taiho, Chuho, and Hiho plus CS Mizho. They are protectively packaged with 2BB, 2CA, 2CL, and 5DD.

BBs Fuso & Yamashiro plus 8CA and 7 DD arrive @ Osaka for upgrades.

TF 18 is formed @ Tokyo with 4 DD, 1AV, and 14 AP. They load 4 ENG LCUs for a trip to Singapore.

ASW TF 19 with 5PC patrol along the south coast between Saigon & Camrahn Bay based on reports of an enemy sub.

Burma troops are @ Meiktila and will do a Direct Attack.

I’m still pushing ENG LCUs to Moulmein from Bangkok and Tavoy but the march is slow…

I moved a unit of zeroes to Singapore to provide cap and escort to Palembang.

The 127th and 126th IJN ENG LCU from Kuantan are marching to Singapore. I also transferred the 11th Ftr Sentai (36 Oscar) to Saigon. This keeps me legit with air units @ Kuantan as base = 4 and planes now equal 196.

TF1 @ Pescadores is transporting the Suzan Naval Guard to Haiphong.

TF 27 with 3 MSW will goto Hong Kong from Pescadores to remove the rest of those pesky mines.

So with 52 LCU @ Chengsha (all of Carl’s INF Divs seem to be divided) he probably has 15 Div? I have more troops on the way but I need more supplies plus support B4 I try to take this base.

For Reinforcements I won’t see any ships for 14 days but I get lotsa LCUs in 3 days (including 3 divisions in China) plus I get a bunch of air units – 4 zeros, 1 Sally, 1 Tojo, and 1 Eva.

Fuel and troop TFs from Tokyo to Kwajalein are at about the half-way point.

So I’m moving air support to Singapore, Tarakan, & Moulmein. I expect to go after Palembang by the end of this month with CarDiv 3 providing support.

I sweep more mines from Miri, Borneo. Carl likes his mines...

The CL Durban stops by Moulmien and sheels my base. 35 casualties - I think he hit the mess tent...

And then Rangoon gets a visit from the CA Frobisher. I lost 4 guns and collect 123 casualties from that visit. Fortunately, I think most of those troops are just shell-shocked and will be fine in the morning...

Morning

From Canton I send 42 Lilys escorted by 24 Tojos to plaster Hengchow. 27 runway hits and a pair of base hits from 9k.

Carl sends over the Wellingtons to Rangoon again - 25 of them stop by to leave 4 holes in my runway. 12 LB-30 plus 11 B-17E Forts follow in the 2nd wave @ 15k and I get one in the base, 2 in Supplies, and 10 more holes in my runway. Man will I be glad when I get some engineer units over here with aviation support...

Carl also hits Tarakan from Balikpapin. 19 LBs escorted by 19 P-38F Lightning meet 14 Zeroes. 3 of my fighters take damge but we send a Martin down in flames and put holes in 3 fighters and a pair of bombers.

Carl is still after my troops marching from Singkawang. He sends over another 9 bombers from Batavia but my troops hear those planes from miles away and slip into the jungle - no owies.

With overwhelming air support over Changsha, I send 32 Lilys and 19 Sallys over to pound on Chines troops. The 2nd Chinese B/Corps loses a gun and takes 29 casualties.

Afternoon

SS Silverside is reported to be hit by a Helen near Tarakan. I sure hope that's true.

Bombardment of Chengsha - 3037/3547 - 12 casualties. Carl is still keeping his troops on defense.

Carl sends a bombardment TF over to Singkawang, a major industrial hub in Borneo. The BCs Van Brakel, Wilem Warmont, Dezevin Provincien, and the CLs Marblehead, De Rayter, Tromp, Sumatra, Java, Celebes, Eendracht, and Kijkduin pound my me for 131 casualties, 4 air base hits, 2 supply hits, 16 runway hits, 4 port hits, and 4 port supply hits. Carl must still be upset about losing his Ark Royal...

Morning

SS Grayling goes after my BB Harura... The torp clunks against the hull but fails to detonate... I can already hear CArl cussing... [:D]

45 more of my Lilys hit Hengchow and add 37 new holes to the runway.

Not to be outdone, Carl sends 26 Wellingtons back to Rangoon to put 14 new holes into my runway... And then the Liberators and B-17s come back and I take 7 more Airbase hits, 2 supply hits, and an additional 15 holes in my runway... Sheeeezzzzzz!

My Lizs go to Palembang but my fighter cover doesn't show up from Singapore... Nothing shot down but still...

Over Tarakan 14 Zeroes put down 3 Lightnings and two LBs plus damage anothe 8 aircraft. The bombers still hit my runway 5 times and ate into my base supplies with 3 hits.

Afternoon

12 Sallys from Amoy hit the 47th Chinese A/Corps @ Chengsha for 2 gunz and 50 casualties.

And then I do the bombardment thing @ Chengsha; the assault values are 3037/3551/

Notes: BB Fuso had too much damage to upgrade over the last two turns... But all of the other CAs and DDs have upgraded. They'll sit for a while until their SYS damage drops.

TF 18 is still @ Tokyo but should be in route to Singapore next turn.

TF19 <5PC> will move East of Camrahn Bay and then return to Saigon.

TF 1 is close to Haiphong - maybe 180 miles. They should unload next turn also.

TF 26 should finish unlaoding @ Kwajalein by next turn and headed back to Tokyo.

Normally I wouldn't load for bear like this but Carl uses those 4E LBs in droves. I lost a carrier earlier in the war when Carl basically blocked out the sun with bombers... It was nasty. Scout1 shared a few stories that, based with my experience, almost force me to do the Death Star thing.

O-Dark-Thirty

RO-61 has slipped up within spitting distance of the AK Patris, newly arrived at the port of Balikpapin to take on stored resources before the Japanese arrive. On an almost moonless night the 61 rises to the surface and the crew quitely prepare the main gun. Captain Izuki is both daring and young for his rank but comes from a prominent family, with strong charisma, wit, and patriotism for his country. Quitely he hisses to fire tube 1. Moments later he can almost feel the torpedo spew forth. His crew is ready for the ship to be lit up from the torpedo hit and finish it off with a mixture of AP and HE shells.

Minutes go by on the stopwatch and Izuki cusses quitely to himself. A miss! He strokes the thin mustache above his lip and sends orders to set the next torpedo to run closer to the surface and then when all is ready he gives the command to fire tube 2. Again he watches the stopwatch and peers through his binoculars. Almost on que a mighty blast erupts against the flank of the AK Patris. Flames and smoke erupty from midship and provide the light for the gun crew who immediately begin firing upon the merchant ship. Shells fire rythmically with slight calls for adjustment. Within 5 shots they have the AK bracketed and then there is a hit upon the tower that causes more fire above deck.

A flash comes from the stern of the AK and Izuki is suddenly covered in spray from a near miss. "Get that damned gun!" he yells to his crew. More shells fire from the main gun and they quickly find the stern of the Petris. A second hit is registered on the AK. The gun on the stern must be an older model because the rate of fire is no match to the smooth precision of the RO-61s gun crew. Again a flash of gun fire erupts from the stern and a shell rings off of the forward hull.

Izuki has had enough of this! He orders the ship to full speed with right rudder and has the crew quickly secure the gun and ammo. RO-61 leaves the AK Patris burning as patrol boats from the port come charging out of the harbor. He clears the tower and orders the sub to periscope depth. There will be other nights and Izuki has learned a lot in his first actual encounter against the enemy.

Morning

Carl sends 24 Wellingtons to do Rangoon again. He likes my base. He wishes it was still his. It's my base. Carl should get over it.[:'(] He hits me for two airbase hits and 8 in the runway. And then of course come the Liberators and Fortresses - 9 of each - that do me to the tune of 3 more airbase hits, 2 to my supply, and 11 to my runway.

I send some Lizs to Palembang <again w/o fighter support [:@]>. I'm like - so done with this! I think I'll wait until I get my engineers @ Singapore and then do some more mail runs from there <but with fighter support>.

From Batavai Carl sends Martin bombers at my troops near Singkawang. two sorties go after my Ikaiea SNLF and Yokosuka SNLF but they don't do nuthin' 2 me. Happy-happy.

I send 8 Marys with some Nate protection from Hankow to Changsha to keep the chinese on their toes. They hit the 54th Chinese A/Corps for 14 casualties.

I follow that up with 9 Sallys going to Changsha from Amoy. They find the 38th Chinese C/Corps and dust them for 14 casualties.

Carl sends 17 Blenheim and 13 Wirraway from Mandalay to Meiktila where I have my Burma units. My 55th C/Div takes 61 casualties and loses 3 guns...

6 Liberators come to Miri (from Batavai I think) on a naval strike but I've got zeroes on CAP. 3 Zero damaged, 4 Liberator damaged, no ships hit.

Afternoon

Carl has those pesky IL-4c planes working out of China again. 3 do a naval attack @ Hong Kong but miss. They were going after my PG Kongosan Maru.

I do another bombardment @ Chengsha and do the Chines 78 casualties.

In the dark of the night

My I-15 is near San Diego and misses in an attempt to hit the DD Schely (which is part of an ASW TF that Carl sent). They snoop around but can't find the sub.

Captain Izuki guides his RO-61 back into the waters of Balikpapin. At anchor is the AK Patras - the ship he'd left for dead the night before. Again he manuvers the 61 into an attack position but this time he choses not to surface. And this time that damned AK is going down... Captain Izuki fires his remaining three torpedoes at his target, and after a few minutes he hears the gratifying but muted thump, thump, and thump that coresponds to the three eruptions along the flank of the AK as he watches from his periscope.

With no torpedoes left he angles his sub on a course for the Straight and has his exec start plotting a course for Saigon so they can restock.

Abd 21 Wellingtons make a return visit to Rangoon. They are followed like clockwork by 10 Liberators...

I send 6 more Lizs to Palembang - but this is the last time until I can insure fighter support.

Carl sends his Martins after my Ikaiei SNLF and the 16th Naval Guard. Those nave boys get caught in the open and lose a gun and 9 casualties. I don't think my army and naval ground units share information very well...

Carl sends the Blenhiems back to Meiktila from Mandalay to drop gift packages on my burma troops. I have to come up with a way to repay him for his kindness...

My PC Shanon Maru that was caught up in the Tarakan assault goes down near Manila.

The I-15 gets tagged bt two ASW TFs and takes a few hits. Later I find the damage looks survivable but when I was watching it play out I was thinking I lost her.

Amoy - Change my LB to attack the airbase @ Chengsha instead of LCUs

1st Aviation Rgt finally gets to Moulmein. I move 3 units of zeroes and 2 units of oscars and set CAP @ 80 percent with Target = Rangoon and Range = 3. Altitudes are staggerd between 16k to 13k. On the next turn I'm hoping to carve up a little "Beef" Wellington for supper...

Troops @ Cagayan will do a direct attack - overkill on my part. I want to see the experience levels before/after...

Production

I've now converted all Oscar production to Tojo Production. This will increase Tojo production to 106 frames per month. Later I'll find something to convert to the Oscar-II and generate enough for the new units that will come out but for now I want to convert all Nate/Oscar units to Tojos.

I have three factories producing Jakes (20, 20, and 5) and I have 183 in the pool. I'm only using about 10 per month so I've converted the two factories that produce 20 to Tojos (each is producing 13 Tojo now) and I'll leave the last factory @ 5 Jakes/month. This bumps my total Tojo production to 132/month when the factories are running @ full strength.

I'm producing about 60 A6M3 per month right now but these planes are crap. I'm gunna produce 75 planes and then halt this until the A6M3a comes out cand then I'll convert.

I bumped my production of Nakajima engines up by 40 to cover the Tojos plus a future increase in Liz 4E bombers.

Burma/Thailand/Indo China
In Burma I've started flying supplies from Bangkok to Moulmein. I have 6 fighter groups and 1 4E bomber group @ Moulmein. I'll start pounding the Mandalay airfield this turn.

Troops @ Meinkata will perform a D. Atk against the undefended base. Also, I have a ENG Base Force marching up so I can have some air support.

I'm sending supplies from Japan to Bangkok also - about 20k. Most of this will be flown into Moulmein/Rangoon.

And I'm sending another 20k of supplies to Singapore and Saigon. I'll be moving air operations and staging subs from Singapore but until then I need to use Saigon.

I sent 4 shiney new subs from Japan to Singapore to boost patrols near India and the DEI.

Borneo/PI
A TF of MSWs is headed to Miri from Tarakan. I still don't enjoy air superiority over the south end of Borneo. The mines are out of Tarakan and Carl has just added mines back @ Miri so...

I've got a TF running from Tokyo to Tarakan to deploy ENG BF units so I can beef up air operations in the south.

Troops @ Cayagan are set for another D. Atk. It's April and I want this area secure ASAP.

Carl has a sub @ Bataan so I set up an ASW TF from Manila to run over and see if they can sink it.

China
INF 15th C/Div @ Soochow is headed to Wuchow (600m) to add a little beef to perations I have planned in that area.

The 113th IJA BF @ Nanking plus the 26th Div and the 4th Army Corps @ 46,36 are all headed to Changsha. So is the 2nd Aviation Rgt out of Hankow. I'm trying to get a lot of support there plus supplies to make a push against the 52 enemy units @ that base...
