I had a look athte "Barbarossa 1941" scenario last night - did half hte German 1st move - they carve through the Sov's like there's no tomorrow - most front line Sov divisions get auto-retreated by single German divisions and the Germans have no trouble getting within a few hexes of Riga on T1! I'm not sure how complete their Sov OOB is tho.
One of the reasons that you can't do that in FitE is possibly because the German divisions are all split into regiments, and you can't do an auto-recoil with a stack - only with a single unit.
Shawkhan pretty much all Scenarios dealign with Barbarossa freeze Sov units near the frontlines for a turn or 2, and also give them various combat penalties, as well as giving the Axis combat bonuses - that part of it isn't a problem!

But you can take an entire german division (3 regiments) in FitE, split up two regiments and encircle a soviet division. With the first attack it is well possible to evaporate the soviet division, recombine (if possible) and move ahead. The difference is only in the abstraction or scale of the scenario, the outcome/effect is quite the same. Same about the time scale. Three turns to get in front of Riga in FitE compared to one turn in Barbarossa'41.

Oh sure - you certainly can encircle vast numbers of Sov's in FitE.....but auto-rereats are just so much more ...er.....crunchy!![8D]

Anybody ever see this thing before in FitE? I don't remember it being there. Somebody explain to me why it would have to be there just to increase the distance by +96. Out in the middle of nowhere....???

Guys, I am trying to figure out how the Rumanian river fleet is restricted from going to Odessa. It can get to the eastern river on the border of Bessarabia and the Ukranian and the hexes show deep water. But the hexes to Odessa are also deep water. Anyone know how it is done? Oh yea I am just trying to figure out how things work. Thanks.

The only reason it can leave the river it lives on is that the designer(s) of the scenario placed a "super river" hex in the deep water alongside the beach there so it's effectively still in a "river" when it's out to sea. So to allow it to go all the way to Odessa you gotta set the super river as a terrain type in the deep water just outside Odessa. That's my guess.

Ah - so it's probably there to allow the Romanians to get to one of the rivers, but not any further.
