Methinks my ASW is performing below expected levels. [:@]
Yava has gotten into a nasty habit of sending his subs into harbors. Now, while I do not consider it a gamey tactic, as such, I do think that the game engine is not equipped to reflect the dangers of taking a sub into a harbor. IRL, this venerable S-boat would have been an oil slick, even with crummy IJN sonar.

Btw.., one of your planes hit one of my subs...[:)] apparently with a bottle or something due to 1 point of sys dmg...[:D]

If you really wanna know, it was the "restroom pail". [:D]

BTW, we were only returning the favor. Last turn one of your Dorniers hit the Haruna. Caused no damage, but there were a lot of ticked off sailors scrubbing the "stuff" off the deck, and an ever more ticked off midshipman with a "soiled" uniform.

Anyways here's the situation concerning Borneo.

Them Jap CVE's and CVL's are getting on my nerves sinking many ships that are trying to find a safe harbor... However some of them already made it. (not only to the sea bottom) Things are getting complicated with Onime building up Brunei, Bombers present.[:)]

Been reading the Hibiki Saga again, and was visited by the muse. I apologize ahead of time....

Lt. Maeda was not feeling particularly charitable this morning. As far as he was concerned, he had every reason to be sour. While other pilots, some of them his mates from flight school, were smashing the British imperialists over Singapore and the decadent Americans over the Philippines, one Lt. Maeda was spending the war in a forsaken backwater called Brunei. Somehow, he expected his entrance into the war against the colonialist devils to be a bit more glorious. The airstrip was an unpaved affair, surrounded by jungle and ramshackle native huts, and seemed constantly threatened by the jungle, which looked to have a mind to reclaim it. The native women did not strike his fancy. They were dark and seemed unattractive to Maeda, largely because they had none of the poise and elegance of the girls from his native Osaka.

What he had seen of the town itself might have at sometime been impressive for this part of the world, with tall minaret spires and white walls. Now, however, it looked as used and rundown as any other place that was touched by the hands of colonialists. The white devils seemed to have a way of using a place up. The Marines took Brunei after a short, but sharp, fight with the local garrison, apparently made up largely of service troops, which then retreated into the jungle and have not been seen since. Rumor had it, that an American cruiser, in its ignominious retreat from the Philippine islands, had somehow blundered into a small Japanese convoy just outside the harbor and sank a destroyer. Whether the rumor was true or not, scuttlebutt had it that the powers that be were so shaken by the incident, that, in all their wisdom, they ordered Maeda’s unit of G3M bombers to be immediately rushed to Brunei. Since then, the pilots and crews of the unit had been all but sequestered to the airfield, constantly in various stages of alert, waiting for god only knew what. Such a state of affairs did not improve the lieutenants outlook on the present situation, and made him even more determined to take his frustrations out on the first thing that fell into his hands.

The “thing” in question, could, at present, be barely made out against the calm waters by the naked eye. Already trailing a wisp of smoke, the tiny craft, which looked like an elderly destroyer, seemed to be cranking out all the speed it could to try to escape the inevitable. Despite these pathetic efforts, or, perhaps, because of them, Maeda felt his anger rising even higher. The tight, trim formation of 15 bombers, crewed by experts of the highest caliber seemed like terrible overkill for such a piddling target. In fact, someone had quipped something to that effect during the preflight briefing, to which the Captain simply shrugged and said, “then we will consider it a training flight. We wouldn’t want you to get rusty”.

The bombers were steadily gaining on the enemy ship. From the place of his bomber in the middle of the formation, Maeda could clearly see as the lead planes released. He watched with rapt attention as the bombs fell on every side of the ship, raising huge towers of water, drenching the little ship from stem to stern. He watched as the enemy turned this way and that, bobbing and weaving, chasing splashes, ducking into waterspouts, and gamely emerging on the other side. His emotions were strangely split between the desire to see the enemy explode, and the wish that the lead planes miss, and leave some of the target for him.

And then it was his turn. He assumed the familiar position at the bombsight, arranging himself in a comfortable pose at the instrument, bringing his head to the eyepiece, adjusting it, calibrating it, eagerly holding his breath for the first sight of the hated enemy. And there it was, swimming into his reticle. He could clearly make out the white wake, the details of the deck, the flashes of the lone gun on the stern, defiantly firing at him, even the figures of tiny people running about. And then the time for contemplation was over and his training and instinct took hold. All emotion disappeared, and Lt. Maeda became the killing machine he had always imagined himself to be. His hands glided automatically over the knobs and controls, adjusting, tuning, aiming. And then, like the logical ending to a brilliant monologue, he pressed the trigger switch. Immediately he felt the plane shudder as his bombs released, lightning the plane. He had another scant moment to watch his target, see the bombs fall. And then, just as the tiny ship was about to pass beyond the scope of his magnifying eye, he saw it. A hit! And another! The little ship seemed to jump out of the water. Angry tongues of flame burst skyward, debris, and what looked like human bodies, were hurled in all directions. And the most amazing thing, the ship seemed to just stop. Maeda could no longer see it through his eyepiece. As the only member of the crew with nothing more to do, he rushed to the rear of the plane, past the gunner, Sgt. Ono, to the waist bubble, grabbing for his binoculars as he moved. He got there just in time to see another flash of an explosion, the next plane after that scored too, and the next. The little ship was no longer even visible, being covered in a thick cloud of black smoke and licking fire. It began to fade from view, only the thick black smoke remaining in the distance.

As he felt the plane begin its turn for home, Maeda sat on the deck, a wide grin on his face, eyes meeting the equally toothy grin of Sgt. Ono. Sitting there, slumped, Maeda felt the pressure and tension of combat ebb from his body. He felt his smile disappear, the elation of just a moment before was gone as well. A new, terrible feeling was taking hold of him. He felt like a little boy, who had just playfully thrown a rock at a puppy…and hit it.

Another quiet day in the Pacific. Dutch pilots are trying to hunt some Jap CVEs(Hosho S of Menado and Taiyo E of Borneo. No sight of KB since 8/12/1941. Some Jap BBs and CAs are hanging around Borneo. The TF that sunk AVD Heron is probably scheduled for a bombardment mission of Kuching.
Jap landing in Lamon Bay continues and the 65th Bde marched into Clark Field.
Chineese forces have probed enemy defenses in Kafieng and are holding positions in Canton. Some air to air results are making me go crazy. Rest is clssified.

Actually, theyre constructed using ancient Japanese gluing techniques using spit and cow manure.

This would explain their tendency to fall apart...[;)][:D]
