That's the one. It was a controversial scrapping as many people wanted her back in the UK as a museum, but no-one would stump up the cash [:(]

She was scrapped in India where ships are commonly run aground for scrapping in developing nations. They are dragged into the shallows at high tide, then when the tide goes out work begins. My Dad has been on several ships that were on their final journey for this kind of disposal.

Hmmm. I think there have been a couple. I read one as a teen about the Battleship Texas being converted into a modern (sci-fi) warship. She carried laser cannons and had anti-nuke shielding...IIRC it was not the best book.

Hopefully, you watched StarBlazers as well. Now THAT was a conversion.
