As long as my navy can survive...

Seems to be doing a good job so far... those naval assets are a precious resource though, they can't last all that long. [:D]

I am also preparing to let loose the dogs of war with unrestricted submarine warfare, because, basically I'm pissed (American phraseology not English).

Never faced this before, be curious to see how nasty it is.

I'm sure the yanks won't like that very much.

Who cares? We don't need the yanks to win this one. [:D]



Russian drive towards Vienna has stalled at least for now as Serbia collapses and German units (! - mission accomplished, really!) are sent to reinforce the Austrians already being trimmed from Serbia to defend the capital. Danzig and Konigsberg are going to fall to the Tsar though as a result, and Austria is almost out of the war already, their morale is so bad. If not for the Germans in Vienna they'd have been had before 1915, maybe-possibly. For shame!

French counterattack on the Western Front gets nowhere, inflicts 1:1 casualties though - not really enough for me unfortunately. Entente artillery hopefully continues to exact a toll, more than his until we start digging in. He's threaten Lyons but there are plenty of troops there... remains to be seen if he can take it.

Casualties are now up to about 0.7 million for him and 0.9 million for me, which IMHO is not all that good news. But by no means disaster.

Tis' true,

I think the reason for that is that the CP doesn't have any strategic movement on the first turn, which seeing as he is the aggressor, seems a bit odd.

The mobilization phase at the beginning more or less
is the same thing as having lots of strategic movement.. .

Well into the winter now, in fact I think 1915 has just begun but not sure!

The flower of French manhood seem to be doing OK at checking the Hun advance in the Paris direction, not doing so well in the south, but, enh, thats not so critical.

The High Seas Fleet seems to be flagging after numerous exchanges of fire.  Good, good.

First turn of serious trench digging by the Entente too, the front is hopefully going to start crusting up fairly soon.  I'm sure Lava is hoping to avoid that...  [:D]

Danzig and Thorn about to be liberated, Konigsberg has fallen, Brunn has been given up but only to straighten the line, German units are already shoring up a sagging Austria, Italy will be in soon, and, most important of all,

Oh, for the humanity of it all...

Previous games have taught me the value of not getting caught up in a WW1 mentality and defending every hex to the last, only to be massacred or cut off.
Petain is in charge of the southern defence, and he is a pragmatic man concerned with the lives of his soldiers.  [:D]
You can have Lyons so long as I keep Paris.  [:D]

Or to borrow from the Imperial Guard in Dawn of War, "Capturing it will be easy, holding it will be hard".

The Western Front in the more critical northern axis has now crusted up to my satisfaction with level 2 trenches all over the place on my side.  The BEF awaits deployment in France and more will be coming.  The German defences are considerably lighter so hopefully my artillery is going to lay down some pain on him in the coming months. 

In the east it looks like the Kaiser knows the value of retreat as well as the defenders of Thorn pull out.  [:D]

We're well into the spring of 1915 now, no early victories for the Kaiser.  France looks to have held and, really, German progress has been fairly slow compared to other games I've played, despite the vile Huns use of poison gas.  The dastardly fiend will clearly stoop to any inhumanity while focused upon his villainous empire building!

Casualties are up to 1.5 million CP and 1.9 million Entente now, btw.

When victory is measured by moving one hex closer to Paris because the French have allowed you to do so, then god help the Kaiser.  [:D]

I like well-defined artillery targets.

Danzig and Thorn are now solidly Russian despite a bit of sketchiness around there, its now April 1915.

Its time to give the Huns a taste of British spunk soon I think!

The Kaiser plots his next move...

Tsar Nicky is in the glorious position of being at the forefront of the Entente's offensive strategies.  A few salients on the Eastern Front are being pinched out, and the Russian horde is now fully mobilised and ready to break over the Central Powers like an avalanche!

Meanwhile the devious Petain works on ways to kill as many Germans with as few French casualties as possible.  Petain's task is made easier by reports that the Germans have apparently forgotten that trench warfare requires trenches!  Poilus watch with grim amusement from the safety of their dugouts while the vile Hun is blown apart on the field by a storm of shot and shell.

Great photos, guys. This is an unusual AAR.

Brunn is a salient jutting into Russian lines. Its weathered an assault with some losses, and Russian artillery is beginning to mass as the place gets pounded. An eastern version of Hellfire Corner for sure.

The Russians know how to treat German dogs.



Going a bit quiet on the west now, a French counterattack got beat off. Theres some fairly sporadic-ish artillery fire.
