Of course historically the allies did try to reinforce Holland, e.g. the French 7th army advancing to Breda. However a panzer division with mostly MK1 'tanks' got in the way and events elsewhere proved far more important!
Reinforcing minor nations units is a vital part of the game especially for the germans who have all those minor alles to sustain. Think of it as spending resources to delay the enemy.
A game of historical actions and consequences will either have to involve house rules or for play v the AI use of some of those spare option buttons. I reckon such additions will enhance gameplay and widen the appeal of the game.
Example - there was no reason for Germany to invade Holland except to get at Belgium. The Belgian reaction to this would probably be to allow the allied armies to advance into the country. A historical reaction rule would have a DOW on Holland result in a automatic DOW on Belgium say 90% of the time. The reverse would not occur, a DOW on Belgium would not trigger a Holland DOW.
Stuff like this should be relatively simple to code?
